I was scrolling through the news when I saw this Maria Burns Ortiz article on the lack of Latinos in the NFL Draft. Maria Burns Ortiz posted:Tune into Thursday night’s first-round coverage of the NFL draft and the ensuing six rounds over the next two days, and there are a few near certainties. What the hell is this? If there were great football players being held back, then I could see the need for an article of this nature, but that's not happening as far as I know, and if it is, she missed a great opportunity to tell me about it. If you're good at football, you'll get drafted. Did somebody do a story on the lack of Asians in the draft?

If you cite specific tactics and objective things like Cuban did in that video, you can be proven wrong (not to mention you actually have to pay attention, watch something other than the guy with the ball, etc.). And by being nearly impossible to argue with, that means the argument can go on forever without actually saying anything or doing any research. Being an ESPN talking head has to be a cake job.

TL posted:Pretty sure SNY had a shot of Joe Simpson calling the game yesterday while actually wearing a Braves hat, too. I don't understand why everybody gets so lovely about commentators not being totally neutral on local broadcasts. Also, the strained oblique thing has been a weird obsession of theirs for a couple years now. It started when 3 or 4 guys went to the DL within a couple weeks of each other in 2009 (or 2010), and in a game against the Angels, Nate McLouth watched a pitch go by, stepped back out of the batter's box, took a halfway practice swing and doubled over in pain. Then Terry Pendelton said something like "you don't go on the dl for pulled fat". Anyway, gently caress the Mets.

ESPN's NHRA broadcasts aren't too bad, but the only time you see anything about drag racing on ESPN is if they're covering the event or someone dies.
