Do you find something comical about my appearance when I'm driving my automobile?
Between Monday and Tuesday, I hope to finish digitizing some Byrds singles. Be prepared to hear their output from 65-67 in their original single mixes, which actually kills the album mixes because their producer didn't give a gently caress about them being playable on your turntable.

There was actually a phone call between him and the pressing plant. He mixed a single so hot that it wouldn't play. He asked them if it would play on a radio-station's turntable with those heavy arms, and they said "Yes, but it won't play on your consumer's record player." He didn't care. He just cared that it would sound great on airplay.

Plus, you haven't heard "Have You Seen Her Face" until you've heard the real mix.

There's no such thing as an "album with no songs". It's just a database of ID3 tags: the album only exists if there are songs in it.

But this isn't quite true.

If all of the songs in album abcd are either removed or have their album tag changed, then there will be no songs in album abcd. However, album abcd still comes up when you search for "abc", and you can still click on that link to be greeted with the album page and an empty list of songs.

It doesn't seem to have any real downside aside from clogging up searches, though.

Funny you should mention Marillion, I've just recently been getting back into them. Looks like they've got an album out that I was not aware of... or two. Think I'll add some to the GBS-FM queue next.

Never heard Van der Graaf. I'll make it a goal to check them out when I have a bit of free time this week. Echoing Wolfey's request for perhaps a quintessential album to begin with.

No prog list would be complete without a generous helping of Wakeman and ELP.

As do i. Awhile ago I found this article in a Google cache when i was hunting down his music. I think it's gone now, so I thought I would post it here for posterity:

quote:

"Think of post-rave as a creative music factory. It requires a different type of creativity. You’ve really got to take different beats and mix them in a way that they synchronize with each other and create a haze that stuns the listener. They don’t know if they hate it or enjoy it, then before they know it, five minutes has passed by and they’re loving it. When you listen to the voice samples very carefully, you will be able to associate them with distingushable beats, just like the gears of machines in a factory. The machines work together to create a product of perfect harmony; the creation of mechanical sound which does not sound mechanical, but organic." - DJ Magnetic Dozer

The post-rave genre had been slowly gnawing on the underbelly of modern dance and electronica for some time, with artists like Count Scratchula, DJ Salinger and Mish Masher Mark Basher establishing the movement’s credentials and setting a standard for future artists. However, with many critics and limited appeal, post-rave was failing to make an impact with anyone other than proponents of the genre.

The arrival of DJ Magnetic Dozer marked the point in any musical style’s life cycle where it gains mainstream recognition. The release of Bob Pokosy brought in a flood of new fans, all wanting to know “Just what is a Bob Pokosy?”. Other Dozer tracks took post-rave to new places, such as the Latin-tinged rhythms of How is Babby Formed?

The comments are repetitive, but as far as giving it a chance, when that vocal style comes in, it's had its chance. Too bad, too, because it ruins some awesome music. Same thing for similar vocal styles in punk and industrial. I'm not even sure what it is about it, 'cause I enjoy some extremely abrasive instrumental music.
