So is there a limit to how much one person can upload? I have a weird cover obsession and would be happy to upload my whole 20 gig plus collection.

Also, since the site is down right now I can't see how the tagging works, but on my own PC I put the artist covering it and then the original artist in parentheses in the artist field. Is this how I should do it for GBS FM?

In case anyone was wondering, I have like a dozen covers of The Final Countdown.

That's going to be a problem. For a start, no, we don't want both artists in the artist field because the system will stick that one song on its own artist page thinking that all that text is the artist. We have a Composer field (read from the ID3 Composer on upload, if present) that we have been using for the original performer (unsemantically, this is not always the same as the composer, which is usually a person's name rather than a band's name; don't list the person here). However, unless you want to retag each song as it uploads to change to this format, you won't be able to dump that 20 gigs into the FTP upload. There is also the issue, as was already mentioned, that much of what you upload will be duplicates, that the moderation team will have to track down and hand-merge. Why not just upload and retag your favorites as you wish to enqueue them?

Roger that, I figured the idea was to build a big rear end database of music and I was going to go through and upload the collection over time while checking. Frankly it's easier to just put some of the more notable ones up and that's what I'll do. Starting with Moby's cover of Creep...

This is perhaps the greatest thing to come out of GBS.

I anxiously waited 10 hours to see if goons were going to hate my dong choice.

Yeah, I've been listening all day waiting for mine. It's up in a few though. Supposed to be going out to dinner in like five minutes but I'm too much of a nerd and will be late.

I like (insert whatever subgenre) Metal, but people are going to get really pissy when there's at least one 10 minute death metal song per hour. It's hard to come up with something other then "lol this person is angry" that frequently.

I could say the same thing for trance / ambient music.

Don't expect people to appreciate your fringe genre music when you're making them listen to ten minute chunks of it.

Is there any way we could get a script added that prevents voting on a song that is on the playlist until it has been playing for at least a minute or so, and then locks votes out again 5 minutes after it finishes? Not that votes are a huge deal or anything, it is just retarded that people try to troll the voting system like that.

It's not a bad idea, but I frequently vote for songs before they are played if I already know what they are. Though the slight inconvenience would probably be offset by people who just go down the list voting all ones being shut down.

Another fix would be to make it so you can only add a number vote if you leave a comment, and your comment will be displayed with your number vote and name. That takes the anonymity out of it though, which might discourage some people. Some other people might be discouraged by the fact that they have to actually think up a constructive comment to write, but 10-20 seconds of work isn't really inconvenient.

Except people wouldn't think of something constructive to say. People don't do that now when it's totally optional. I weep for whoever has to clean out the comments because it really is a terrible combination of people using the comment box as a chat, people who don't realize the song has changed and leave the comment for the wrong song, people who say "better than the last song" or whatever, and people who are rehashing the same jokes.

Also I feel like some goon is going to come beat me up if they can see how horribly I rate some of their favorite songs. But that's a risk I'm willing to take.

It's kind of funny because I can just listen to it on my computer but listening to it and watching the songs' ratings plummet and goons gripe would be marvelous.

I had to take advantage of the fact that the song I could queue yesterday would play between 11:00 PM and 2:00 AM in the states. I hope you all enjoyed Hamburger Lady.

So did I like get banned or something? I don't know why I might have been, but I can't log in anymore.

I went to listen today and was logged out and it keeps telling me that my username and password are wrong but not only do I remember it but I saved it in my browser and it still isn't letting me log in.

I noticed this a while ago. I think either people have gotten tired of voting and commenting or people have stopped actively paying attention to the interface while listening.

Artist number 4? Wow.

I think he was probably asking how he could go about acquiring some DJ Magnetic Dozer for listening purposes. I think it's a worthwhile request. I had a house full of people on Sunday and I really wanted to blast Supergirl at them but couldn't find it anywhere other than GBS FM.
