GBS-FM is one of the oldest goon projects, and probably the most successful. It's opened my eyes to entire genres of music I would never have heard otherwise, and expanded what I knew of the ones I listened to already. If you go in with an open mind and somewhat of a thick skin, you'll enjoy it and, in time, maybe learn to love some of the ridiculously weird crap that shows up on the playlist from time to time. However, I can't stress this enough: delfin posted:3) SEARCH THE gently caress FIRST! before uploading.

Particularly for j-pop but also for any artists which use some form of moonicode in their name, please search for both versions of the name or search by track title as well before you upload. (Since this one was my fault...) If you're going to upload Asian artists, please retag them with romanized names in Western name order (family name last). Also, Isao Tomita isn't j-pop!

One of these days the stream will have replaygain, which should smooth out most of that. Just make sure you're paying attention to the playlist in case someone adds ODE TO LOUD.

It was all unplayed dongs in the database under a minute. It lasted three days because then we ran out of dongs to add. If we did it with our current database we could probably get a couple days out of it. Just bringing back unplayed dongs mode would probably help some of the complaints.

Captain McStabbin posted:Unfortunately, I'll wind up not really suggesting any songs because I usually feel like the song I'm suggesting isn't really related to what's playing and that I'll be the only one who likes it. But that's just my two cents. This hardly ever stops anyone else (especially the part about you being the only one who likes it). Add whatever you like. Part of the fun is seeing everyone react with anger at your contributions to the playlist. Captain McStabbin posted:That said, anyone know of a good irc client? A lot of people use the Mibbit web client through the link on the GBS-FM website. Otherwise, some people seem to like ChatZilla.

I saw a couple minutes ago that Daisyvondoom has a shameful lack of NOT SEARCHING BEFORE UPLOADING, so I went ahead and took away his/her uploading rights. Seriously, a simple search for "Shakira" would have turned up the fact that we already had all of her albums. Also, everything you uploaded was tagged horribly.

No. GBS-FM and DSB have a long history. Also, it's an overplayed, insipid, terrible song that should be reserved only for singalongs in bars after everyone present has had at least six drinks. Most of what gets played on GBS-FM is terrible, but for other reasons.

Leperflesh posted:If I see a dong I know I love coming up, why shouldn't I vote it up in advance? There's a difference between doing that and downvoting an entire Radiohead album that was just released, or going down the playlist and voting 1 for the hell of it. (We know who you are.) It's a matter of station etiquette. Personally, I don't have a problem with pre-voting as you've stated it, but if you can't honestly say "no" to "Am I being a dick?" when pre-voting, then you're probably being a dick.
