Thanks for the effort Lemony. Very excited to read any sort of guide.

That would be awesome. Plz just some mech openers vs. all races.

I think MVP lost every game he went mech. Or the ones I seen.

Anyway, IM Terrans definitely had a couple builds vP and vZ. vP it was either WOL style 1RaxFE (but usually in the middle of a series), reapers (proxed half the time), or that early marine/mine drop timing with follow-up push with stim. vZ the only thing I remembered (were there any TvZs after groups?) was the hellion/reaper/mine harass.

Also lots of doom drops.

Eloquent as fuck!

As someone just coming back for heart of the swarm after a long starcraft break, is there a good starting point for strategies and timings? All my old build timings dont work anymore, and the op of this thread seems similarly out of date.

Changing the barracks timing ruined my life. And my OP

The barracks timing... it still hurts. Never forget.

At least now we got proxy 8/8 reapers.

Here is a preview of what will make up the *bulk* of the OP. I'll obviously be including the basic info about how to play terran, but what I'm planning after that is a section on each MU.

quote:

MVP vs MaNa game 1- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-wxZsF-fUI

10 depot
12 rax
15 gas (AGAIN!)
16 OC
@100% rax 2 marines
17 Depot
@50 gas Reactor on rax - constant marines
20 CC
22/100 gas factory
Add a bunker. Always.
@100% Fact add widow mines.
@100 gas starport (same build as vs Grubby)
@100% starport medivac.
Add 2nd gas.
Once your starport is done, again take 2 widow mines + 4 marines to drop.
Add two rax, tech labs on fact/starport (to swap over)
Add engi bay
Start stim+combat shields, double marauder production, marines. Medivac, reactor on factory (swap over to starport ASAP).
SCOUT. Find out what your opponent is doing, from here you need to make sure you are prepared.

MVP's build is a nice halfway point between aggression, economy and defence. Widow mines can be used effectively to defend against an attack assuming your bunker never gets broken and protoss keeps attacking in waves. Similarly, you're safe from oracle/MSC HARASSMENT because you have reactor marines.

After your initial drops you can say the game is gonna play out quite similarly to WoL TvP. You want to get a bio blob of marines marauders, but the real key in hots - even more so than WoL - is having enough medivacs to be dropping constantly. You want to be working on making sure you're almost always doing at least 2 drops every minute in different places while macroing up towards 200 supply.

Find out if he's going colossus or templars - add a second starport for colossus (add one at 15 minutes always anyway) or get ghosts and more rax for templars. Don't neglect your upgrades.

The easiest way to engage into a protoss army is by doing a drop which distracts the protoss and then leading with your ghosts. In this situation, don't worry about microing your drop. It's simply a distraction to get a better main engagement.

Let me know if this is too much detail and I should instead just write down basic BO's and flowchart how to play the MU. Keep in mind I'm going to edit it and stuff, this is just what I thought would be useful.

I like the idea of keeping generalized overviews of builds and safer builds in the OP and then specialized builds detailed in another post. Of course the problem is this is HOTS and everything old is thrown out or has to be re-evaluated except for maybe TvZ (although burroach pushes can be annoying).

SC2 is my first RTS, and I can honestly attribute the When Cheese Fails series as a something made me think deeper about playing since it started the same month I started playing. I had my natural/mains on lock-down for any proxy pylons or such nonsense.

I think a good section would be for contingencies. If nothing else, it's frustrating to lose to something and not be able to realize the strengths/weaknesses of their opening and end up feeling lost and frustrated. If a zerg has 8 mutas by 8 minutes, there's a tank push against my fast expand, or I scout 3 CC's with a 6:20 scan, what are good responses or what did they sacrifice.

just imo

Yeah, this. Basic build orders in the OP and then reserve the next post (or two!) for neato stuff like that.

Thanks for the feedback, I am definitely aware that throwing too much information at people can backfire so I'll definitely have a simple version and then a more long winded detailed 2nd post. Will make flow charts for contingencies too. Hopefully I'll get the post up tomorrow!

Does anyone know if Hellbats needed the upgrade to transform in IEM? I know I saw Yoda making a couple in TvP & TvZ but having the upgrade on a factory'd techlab seems out of the way if you're playing bio.

Yes. However you don't need the transformation upgrade to BUILD hellbats out of a factory. The hotkey is R I believe and they pop out as hellbats instead of hellions.
