This whole New Wave vampire thing and the pictures provided are reminding me of American Psycho. Which is kind of funny, because if I wonder how many people have played a character similar to that. I'd be reluctant to role-play someone so evil and sadistic... it'd be a little too hard to get super into how loving crazy and evil you were being, and probably way too easy to disgust your tablemates. I'm sure it still happens a lot anyway. e: confusing arrested development and american psycho I guess Tenkaris fucked around with this message at Jan 3, 2011 around 19:55 |

For most of Masquerade's run there were just vague comments about how such-and-such vampire "controlled" such-and-such asset that didn't give you much to go on. This is truth. That's easily one of the best books White Wolf has put out in a long, long time.

in my vaguely dark sun meets d20 modern setting, I was designing an order of post-apocalyptic mutant biker paladins who smite evil with nail bats and scavenged guns. as nomads and exiles, they lack the facilities to reshape salvaged metal... what kind of armour could keep them well-protected, present a suitably knightly appearance, and still be easy to repair using commonplace materials? in a stroke of good fortune, the answer lay in one of my mother's exclamation-mark-studded chain e-mails: ![]()

So in my research for a story summary post in the MTG thread I came across something. For those that don't know, back in 1994-1996ish WotC had MTG comics. They were put out by Armada and Acclaim and for the most part are the most awkward and retarded things. People shouting about how they have <Cardname> and that because of <Cardname> they're going to win blah blah. But I digress, I found a SPECIAL ISSUE called Convocations. It's literally just a bunch of artwork inspired by MTG. Specifically they all represent Combos using now-obscure cards. ![]() Fallen Angel & All Hallow's Eve ![]() Birds of Paradise, Instill Energy, Regeneration & Stasis ![]() Bad Moon & Breeding Pit ![]() This is apparently supposed to be Channel Fireball. ![]() Unstable Mutation on a Kobold then giving it Blood Lust ![]() Dwarven Warriors and Marsh Viper ![]() Fallen Angel & Holy Strength. Yes, real big brainbuster of a combo there. Make a thing stronger. COMBO! ![]() Jovial Evil & Heaven's Gate ![]() Lich & Mirror Universe ![]() Life Chisel & Rukh Egg ![]() Lure & The Wretched ![]() Lure & Thicket Basilisk ![]() Farrel's Mantle and a Sengir Vampire ![]() Sorceress Queen & Lightning Bolt against a Craw Wurm. I guess "Make a creature killable by one spell" is a combo, sure. ![]() Time Elemental & Ball Lightning ![]() Braingeyser & Underworld Dreams ![]() Uthden Troll & Stone Giant ![]() Merfolk Assassin & War Barge ![]() Mesa Pegasus & White Knight ![]() Finally, Pete Venters brings us the best image in the book as you get a Lhurgoyf carrying a Rocket Launcher over the Spoils of Evil and Songs of the Damned in a post Nevinyrral's Disk landscape. Look at that poo poo. Chorocojo fucked around with this message at Jan 11, 2011 around 22:14 |

I'm not sure what the benefit from the rocket launcher is. It looks like you'd get a so much mileage out of just the super-Lhurgoyf that it's a waste of time to give it the launcher.

Yawgmoth posted:What defenders will your opponent have after popping disk? Here's the write up for the combo: quote:Pete Venters I just realized: They mix up Spoils of Evil and Spoils of War interchangeably. The pile of cards next to the write up, the art itself and the title say Spoils of Evil but the write up says you need Spoils of War which DOES do the +1/+1 counters. Nice job, guys. Continuing. . . quote:Guess where those counters are headed? Yes, indeed—the Lhurgoyf seems like the best target possible. With a monstrous Lhurgoyf and a ready Rocket Launcher in play with plenty of mana to go around, your opponent will have to be very resourceful very quickly in order to survive the onslaught. . . . or he could just kill the Lhurgoyf. So there you go the "combo" is supposed to take place over multiple turns since your rocket launcher and lhurgoyf are both summoning sick. Your opponent would likely drop a blocker or two.

The rocket launcher is summoning sick, the lhurgoyf is summoning sick, jesus, even Nev's disk is summoning sick. That's not a combo, it's an opponent with a lot of lovely luck or poor deck design. Then, if you're gunning for that 'combo', your deck probably isn't spectacular either.

| # ? Jan 12, 2011 22:04 |

Man, you call that a combo? In that environment, a combo would kill you in one turn, usually on turn one or two. Channel-Fireball is easily the most dangerous and powerful combo represented and most of 'em aren't even combos.
