Re: Wexford I've never been to the State Game Lands but I heard rumors that people there were getting license plate numbers and looking up addresses to hit the houses. Not sure how much blind paranoia this is. The club I'm a member of, Millvale Sportsman's Club is near the game lands bit isn't assosiated with it. Anyone in the north west area of Pittsburgh should check it out. 200m rifle range with CMP targets, 25m pistol range, skeet, trap, and 5 position. The only thing I wish it had was some 3 gun.

As I said on IRC, I'm down for the 19th assuming I can get my shift in the emergency room changed from the 7a-3a shift to the 11p-7a shift. Once the date is confirmed I'll go bother some people to make it happen. I would be driving in from NYC, and definitely willing to pick up anyone who's kinda on the way if anyone needs a ride. I don't own a shotgun, but it looks like they have rentals/loaners, so I should be good. In other news, there is a possibility that I will be moving to PA next year depending on the outcome of the NRMP match in March. I applied to 3 programs in Philly and one in Lehigh Valley (out of 30 programs total).

I'm about 30 miles north of the Lehigh Valley, but I've never been to this place. I think I know where it is though, my finances father lives in/near Coplay. I've never been to any kind of actual range, I live in the boonies so I just shoot in my back yard pretty much usually. I have a semi-tactilol Mossberg 500 that my cousin traded to me for some random stuff, would that be an ok gun to use for something like this or would I end up looking like an idiot? It has an 18 1/2" barrel, dumb pistol grip and a silly collapsible stock. I just don't want to show up to something like this and look like an idiot, even if I am. I am very interested in coming to shoot guns and hang with internet strangers assuming I can use this gun and you guys don't mind my presence.

no pistol grip 18" barrels allowed. the shotguns you rent for $10 are 110% worth it. Plus we can share. The 19th is gonna roooock. (please god no rain) everyone go buy a couple bulk packs of walmart 12g 7.5 shot (or 8 or 9). its $20/100 shells. The sporting course is 100 shots, and I am of a mind to try other trap there too, its cheap enough. They sell bulk packs as well for just a few dollars more, so don't sweat it. Roundboy posted:no pistol grip 18" barrels allowed. Bummer. I guess I am still interested in coming along though. Sounds like it's going to be a blast. I can just borrow one of my buddies normal hunting style shotguns instead of renting. If I were to put a different stock on the Mossberg would it be ok then or is the barrel length still an issue? I personally don't like the pistol grip on it or the collapsible stock, but that's what it came with and considering the excellent deal he gave me I wasn't going to complain, heh. EDIT: Nevermind, you cleared that up as I was typing I guess. I'll borrow something.

seriously. for $10 you get a kick as over/under. Find a buddy to split it and you can each use it. You shoot one at a time, 6 shells total. Either put the shared gun in the racks provided, or just hand it off to the next guy. We did it, and its fine. There is no 1:1 shotgun:shooter requirement. you want > 18" because there are some long shots. and lose the pistol grip because this is the sport of popes and kings. We have class

Gun stores in Montgomery/Bucks Counties: Seneca Arms 116 Gravel Pike Green Ln, PA 18054 -Best gun shop in Montgomery county, bar none. John's a great guy, very friendly. Stores packed with milsurp, AR's, ammo, random poo poo. Want a Lahti? He's got one. Shop isn't very organized, but that's part of the fun. Also has some reloading supplies. Worth the drive if you're in Philly. Open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays only till 5 (thanks operation_paperclip) American Arms and Ammo 808 Bethlehem Pike Rte 309 Colmar, PA 18915 -Not bad. Lots of flashy new stuff like ACR's and whatnot. Good selection of pistols. Not too much ammo though. Prices can be iffy at times, but they're open to negotiation. Worth a visit, but not if you're far away. Lowe's Certified Guns 1119 Bethlehem Pike Sellersville PA 18960 -Overpriced, assholish staff. Last time I was there they had an M44 with a pitch black bore for $200. gently caress that. I only go here if I absolutely have to, because their selection is admittedly pretty good if you're willing to shell out the cash. Also, they have a huge scrolling sign that reads "NO HAGGLING" That just gives off a bad vibe for me. Owner was also caught making multiple accounts on PAFOA to praise his shop and counter a guy who they had ripped off. Them's some good business practices I reckon. Target World Inc. 529 West Butler Avenue Chalfont, PA 18914 -Don't ever loving go here. Everyone, literally everyone, is an rear end in a top hat. Prices aren't anything special and even if they were, the staff would put me off. They're that bad. If you absolutely must go here, they do have a good selection of alot of stuff. Overall, not worth the visit even if you're close by. Dell's Guns 641 Route 309 Montgomeryville, PA 18936 -Interesting shop. Selection is small, but what is there is usually pretty interesting and uncommon. Dude who runs it is very nice as well. I'm pretty sure this is mostly a Gunbroker operation, but it's worth a visit if you're in the area. Heard his transfers are pretty cheap too. Quinby's Gun Shop Route 313 & Applebutter Rd. Dublin, Pa. 18917 -I haven't been here in a long time, but last time I was there they were really friendly and had an alright selection. Dunno about prices though. I'd say give it a go if you're local. George Zimmer fucked around with this message at Sep 6, 2010 around 20:57 |
