It seems with modern car technology, it's HARDER to service your own vehicle. Those button presses are taken out of the owner's hands and are only available to technicians who have the tools to run the diagnostics programs on the cars and all that. Also hell, the idea of providing this kind of service isn't necessarily BAD, but it's the execution that's the problem. They should educate consumers on how to handle the products themselves and show them the installation and setup processes instead of taking it out of their hands. Give a man a fish/Teach a man to fish and all that. Meantime, I could undercut Best Buy and charge $5 to set up people's PS3 firmware if I really wanted. Just go from house to house with a thumb drive.

Best Buy is doing the snake oil salesman routine and it's probably working. I can shake my head at the whole idea, but I can't fault them for wanting them dolla dolla bills, yall. On the other hand, treating customers with respect and developing relationships with them is something that honestly does go a long way and is severely underrated. It promotes profitability through a loyal, sustained customer base and a more pleasant (and productive) work environment. Two different outlooks on business, I suppose.

I think that only goes so far for local businesses. Big chains do not have that issue. Name recognition alone pushes them. It's why Wal Mart continues to succeed despite the fact that they exploit third world labor and deny unionization to their employees is well known.

Unless I'm mistaken, isn't the worst part not that they offer the service, but that they've already done it to some of their in-stock PS3s? Those updated PS3s are on the shelf and $30 more expensive than others, and if an updated one is the only one left, the customer is probably just going to buy it. I'm pretty sure they do this with their bullshit computer cleanup service, so I may just be getting confused.

Nowadays there are hundreds of thousands of people going in and out of these parking lots weekly, they don't need to sustain customers or build relationships. It's not "going in to town to see Frank at the general store" anymore...

So I'm not sure if this is the best place, but here goes: I'm looking at picking up a console to play casually. I've found I can't bring myself to get totally immerrsed in a game anymore. I've got a PC and used to play a lot of shooters on it...probably would avoid carrying the FPS genre over since I find a mouse and keyboard very comfortable for that. I fired up TF2 not long ago and it is very different with that store junk. I just want stuff that I can pick up, play around with for a bit, and put it away. Don't see that much on the PC (that I don't already have , world of goo - portal) that does this. It wouldn't hurt if I could play with friends or the gf - the latter being a huge plus. I'm a huge fan of the PS3 streaming features already, and don't have a blu ray player. Would the PS3 work for me?

Just buy the drat console and use it to stream media and watch blu-rays. If a game seems cool or interesting you can buy or rent it. If things get too hardcore for you then you can rest easy knowing that the 360 is no different and the arm-waggling goodness of the Wii is now also available on the PS3. There are hundreds of games out there and if you want any relevant suggestions we're going to need a bit more than "has local multiplayer" and "casual". To start you off though, here are some cool games: Uncharted series, God of War series,

Also check out GoG for a lot of really great older games. The monetary investment for a PS3 probably won't be worth it to you, unless you're also really looking for a BD drive, then sure why not. Just go get a good controller for your PC. Throwdown posted:A fool and his money. But you don't get it, guys. It's Aphrodite, the GODDESS OF SOUND! Just think about the double-helix construction and the exquisite frequency modulation to give you a much clearer, yet warmer picture, tone and superior noise isolation. It also transfers data at a rate greater than that of the Ethernet specification.quote:reminds me of GeoCities circa 1996. The distracting background with the same image repeated ad-nauseum, having to scroll down most of the page to find real content (the price, $1,400 for a 2 meter cord, oh boy), and "Optimized for Firefox/IE8" gave me the same feeling. If it had a hit counter, it would have been a total blast from the past.

I've got at least fifteen feet of HDMI cable connecting each of my devices. The cables have succint relay management meaning they actually boost the signal, and the more I have of it the better it works, according to the guy in the shop. It set me back just over £10k but it was worth it. I get between 1620p and 1870p from most HD sources.

HDMI is a digital standard. You either get the signal fully intact, or you get digital artifacting. Also, HD resolution is rated in vertical lines. You can't get a range of vertical lines. In the US that means you can get resolutions such as 480p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p. You can't get, say, 900 lines of veritcal resolution.
