That's the very basic idea, but there's more to it than that. They released a demo awhile back that showed Act 1 of the game and it was very well received. For it being an independent project composed of random people from the internet, the production quality and writing is actually very good and surprised me.

I have to admit I was slightly interested in playing the one Downhill Night game (I think it's called Downhill Night Type-R or something) where you can actually drive the cars, but then I looked up a screenshot on Google and the 3D models for the cars looked very strange.

The one good thing I have to say about Sengoku Rance (which is the only Rance game I'm familiar with) is that the music is loving awesome and way too good for the lovely surprise sex porn game it's attached to. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Xidu5lQrms http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPyk1dsGZQY ![]() Also, while we're on this subject, jesus gently caress Saya no Uta has an incredible soundtrack. Schizophrenia, Song of Saya I, Scream, and Sin all fit the VN's mood perfectly. WickedIcon fucked around with this message at Nov 17, 2011 around 23:41 |

Personally I just find it to be a genuinely good strategy game. The surprise sex is generally waaay too cartoonish to take seriously in any respect save for a few cases, nearly all of which are avoidable if you aren't a fuckup. Most of the cast are amusing enough too, it's easily on par with Sengoku Basara in utter madness. If you can stop worrying about the porn for five seconds and looks at the other stuff you find a game that's 10 times more http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6gH...feature=related Honestly my real complaint with the game, and it's one that applies to Daibanchou as well, is that it really doesn't tell you how to do poo poo and many of the events and triggers are incredibly obscure and you'd never find them without using the Alicesoft wiki. I'm almost 100% certain this will apply to Rance Quest and Daiteikoku too, which mind you isn't going to stop me from playing them. Daiteikoku actually looks more hilarious than Rance Quest to me, which is funny since I didn't like Daibanchou nearly as much as I liked Sengoku Rance.

WickedIcon posted:Also, while we're on this subject, jesus gently caress Saya no Uta has an incredible soundtrack. I agree, I think it's great! I've played some more VNs over the past few days. Tsukihime was great. After that, I played Kagetsu Tohya... while it was pretty interesting, I thought it was boring. Then I spent some time playing Kara no Shoujo (not sure if it's a VN because it plays a lot like Ace Attorney, but most sites say it is so I'll lump it in!). It's pretty depressing and there's a lot of gross gore stuff in it, but it's still a nice read and I felt that they did a great job with the translation. There's a few game overs that just kind of come out of nowhere, so I'd recommend saving a lot if you decide to play... the game gives you 60 slots, you won't have to use even half that but you should keep that in mind if you decide to play. Two of my friends have been ranting about how I have to play Sengoku Rance so I guess that's my next eroge. I've never played a strategy game before though; is it very hard?

Archduke posted:I've never played a strategy game before though; is it very hard? If you're spoiled on the major "surprise!" moves the game pulls on you and know which characters are broken and should be recruited ASAP, the game isn't that hard. Going in completely fresh though, you'll probably do something silly like start a 3-front war. It might take a restart once you gotten a feel for the game to make it to the end. It's fairly light on the mechanics though so it isn't that hard to actually learn the game.

Finished YU-NO. Honestly can't even bring myself to really rant about it anymore, I'm just glad it's over. Some parts were undeniably interesting and the way it was presented occasionally felt clever, but whatever good will it incurred was buried underneath a mountain of bad design and plot decisions. Never again will I think of CLANNAD's route progression as being obtuse and annoying, not when I have this as a comparison. The amount of lazy fanservice was enough to put Cross Channel to shame as well. More than anything else though, the most damning part of all was the line it crossed towards the end that tainted the whole experience. Those that have played it probably know exactly what part I mean.

I started Steins;Gate again and I have to wonder why the cell phone keeps coming up. All I can do is read emails and mess with the background as of now. And clicking the connection thing links me to a website in Japanese. Also I can tell the translation's unfinished...there are these [text00000] things that come up periodically and then I see some bracketed tag pop up briefly when a dialogue with that fades out. e: Oh, moving the mouse to the right side of the screen causes the phone to pop up. Well, I just finished Muv-Luv. The entire saga is amazing, and honestly its well worth it to suffer through the generic routes to gain... well its one of the greatest Visual Novels that could only work as a visual novel honestly. It uses its own internal universe and characters, and while yes it does have disturbing imagery, it isn't for pure shock value or cheap thrills. If you loved Fate/Stay Night, if you like HARDCORE MILITARY SHOWS FOR HARDCORE MILITARY PEOPLE, or just giant robots or discussions on politics, you will love this visual novel.

Stolen from the F/Z thread, Mahoutsukai no Yoru has a release date of April 12th, 2012, and here is the opening: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcBgRcEN6Mo It's...not a particularly impressive OP, since it is mostly still images. But still, I couldn't help but be pretty excited. It doesn't feel like Nasu work strangely enough, like he's channeling The Girl Who Leapt Through Time or something instead. I think it works.
