Bit surprised by the mostly negative reaction to Sirens I thought it was fine for a first episode. But I didn't really see much of the marketing for the show maybe people expected something different?

Anybody else gonna give sirens another shot tonight or have most people decided it shite already?

I thought Stolen was not too bad, and was taken in by what I considered to be 'several true stories' until a small East European lad wandering around London got stabbed randomly by a smaller child, and then bled to death in the middle of the floor in a busy coach station as people walk by, unbothered. A scene taking in what people imagine happens on a constant basis in big cities made me question what else was total bullshit.
I really wanted to like it, but the stabbing was a real jump the shark moment and I was already a bit bored by then.

FYI, don't bother with the new series of proper Big Brother(it started tonight). There are fourteen 20-something-year-old models/musicians/artists/actors/wannabe-famous people. Seriously, they are all exactly the same person. There are maybe two that could be interesting. Oh, and Pamela Anderson is in there for no real reason. Usually I can deal with crappy Big Brothers, but this one is gonna be painful. And Brian Dowling is beyond poo poo as a host.

Now I will watch QI to cleanse my television palette.
I hate them all. Christ even Brian Belo is slagging them off.

In saying that Faye has a cracking arse.

EDIT
Oh god Louise may as well have been in the celebrity bb http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louise_Cliffe

EDIT 2 yeah I'm sad as gently caress.

Started on Taggart and it's pretty good so far! Though I have to say, it has easily the worst credits sequence of any show I've seen thus far. Showing its age, I guess.
Don't remember what the early credits looked like but the theme is bad rear end.

Just to follow up on this, apparently Jay also shat in the freezer a few weeks ago and they didn't show it on TV as confirmed by multiple evictees.

Still regarding BB, this is from a pretty well established poster over on the DS forums with an apparent 'contact' from endemol

quote:

Jay shat in the freezer. It happened. Several HMs were disgusted and one was going to walk because of it (Aaron) but was talked down. Apparently they brought in a new freezer and disposed of the other one, and provided HMs with extra food to quell the mutiny.

That's what they've been doing a fair bit of this series. Mark was offered money not to walk (he may or may not admit to that).

quote:

I don't know which freezer. I just know that Aaron was going to walk over the incident and they pacified him by replacing the freezer, the food in it and by bringing in some extra goodies.

Why would they not tell me? It was already public knowledge that Jay had crapped in the freezer, they just gave me some extra titbits. Possibly this person is giving out 'authorised' inside info, like Reverse Ferret used to.

Most of it isn't of any great interest (at least to me). But I know this person pretty well now from my days uploading BB to YouTube. I trust what they tell me (though I don't think they have access to everything that happens). I do know that Jay has been scaring (contact's word) a lot of the people behind the scenes with his behaviour. I believe the phone call with his mother came about after he was threatening to go beserk. Such a meltdown could easily see the show taken off air. I think they've bitten off more than they can chew with Jay and just want to keep him quiet until the show is over.

I've not been following the BB stuff, but when you're in a house filled with a blanket network of hidden cameras and 1 way mirrors with 24 hour surveillance behind them, what the hell would make you think you could get away with ANYTHING like this? I couldn't sleep so watched 15 Million Merits at 2am this morning. Didn't really know what to expect as I had just glanced over the posts here, never watched any trailers and have never seen any of Brookers work before.
The scene when Bing is going nuts and smashing himself into the wall with Abi doing Wraith Girls while singing her song had me

Is the rest of his work like this? Cause frankly I'm gonna need a couple of days.

Well gently caress.

[edit] I forgot How TV Ruined Your Life as well, that's good too. You Have Been Watching is basically him trying to do a TV panel show, with mixed results, 10 O'Clock Live was a good Charlie Brooker and David Mitchell based show ruined by Jimmy Carr and Lauren Laverne, and he also did a good zombie satire called Dead Set, which is well worth watching.

He also did a couple of series of his radio show, So Wrong It's Right, another panel quiz show which had decent guests and was much better than You Have Been Watching.

Here's a more amusing clip so you know all his work isn't horribly depressing:

About a month or so ago someone posted about a BBC doc on iplayer about the British army stationed in Germany during the 80's, I watched a bit of the first episode and it was a rather blunt account of what military life was like.

Does anybody remember what it was called I'd like to watch the rest of it?
