Aw, I love that weird toothy man Anyway, in other UK tv stuff, the new series of Skins is on its way (you can see the trailer at http://www.e4.com/video/lWa1TDiTvGRDGwWyPxqpw/play.e4 and it's got some Arcade Fire!). Is there anyone actually interested in this show who can convince me to watch? The sheer ridiculousness of season 4 has really turned me off and after looking at the new characters I feel like they almost universally need a slap.

Yeah, but none of the first set of characters needed a slap, except on occasion Michelle. Yeah, they were teens but they were loveable. ...God I miss when Skins was good.

FAT WORM OF ERROR posted:I didn't see the big deal with the third and fouth series, those two twins are both gorgeous, the filming is pretty nice too. The female lead goes suicidal, starts seeing a therapist who brainwashes her. When the male lead goes to see the crazy therapist he gets beaten to death with a baseball bat. I don't think has ever been more appopriately used.

Kinda want to watch an episode filled with these barely sentient humanoids but ill probably just feel really nasty after it. Oh, you totally should. Only two types of people watch The Only Way Is Essex, those who want to be like the people involved and those who are glad they aren't the people involved. Presumably you're the second in which case it's perfect snark bait.

I love Mitchell, I love Carr, I love Brooker even though he's always awkward in the live segments and if you're gonna use a token girl presenter then Laverne is pretty much your best option. Definitely gonna be watching this.

Tardstar posted:This is getting tedius now. I realise there has to be a debate on the value of women comedians at least once a year but are we really trying to say Lauren Laverne isn't on the same level as the other 3? I realise some of you see David Mitchell as a possible friend you could take to the pub while the scary female is controlled by the moon but come on have a bit of respect and stop making smarmy arse remarks about token girl. If you don't like her then just say so instead of making cruel insinuations that her comedy career is some kind of terrible accident. Wow, I heard this forum got tons of misogyny accusations but damm. Ok, first up, I'm a girl myself, so most of your post is just wrong. Second up, I love Lauren Laverne but unless she's done a bunch of stand-up or sketch shows she's not a comedian. She's a TV/radio presenter and she's a really good one and definitely adds stuff to the show. My token girl comment was mostly me being glib and recognising that if things had been different we could have been stuck with Fearne Cotton.

Didn't this thread used to be about TV? There's a new improv comedy show on BBC2 tonight called Fast and Loose with Hugh Dennis and a bunch of people I've never heard of. Some details can be found here: http://www.comedy.co.uk/guide/tv/fast_and_loose/ It looks quite interesting, like an updated Who's Line Is It Anyway?, so I'll be giving it a chance tonight to see how it goes.

I thought last night's Fast and Loose was a lot better than the first one. Of course, it helped a ton that Wayne Brady was there, but it was pretty much funnier all round. Only one of the ideas really flopped for me - the double speak one. Apart from that it was good fun.

Metrication posted:Bit embarrassed to admit this, but I'll probably end up watching the whole of the new series of Skins. Partly in hope that it might be as good as the first (which it won't) and partly as an example of how not to make TV. Series 4 was awful in every way possible (but really it's been declining since the second), especially near the end when it seemed like they suddenly realised they only had a couple of episodes left so they need to jam as much in as possible and subsequently ended up leaving a boatload of loose ends and unanswered questions. I think I'll at least give the first episode a try tonight after 10 O'Clock Live. I have low expectations but I fell in love with Mini from her character bio and I thought Dakota was really good in TGC so I'll give it a shot. Just please don't be as ridiculous as season 4.

To be honest I'm finding it both better and worse than the last group at the same time. Dammit, the ending of Skins won it at least one more episode. The whole finding your true friends was cheesy yet adorable (also, way better than skanky Effy/Cook sex) and the music at the end was awesome. Why don't I have it in me to let this show go?
