And yet, I don't think it'd be in character for him to arch anyone. Not due to any ~Human Compassion~ or any of that bullcrap, but simply because Rusty Venture is too drat jaded, lazy, and self-centered to give two shits about actively antagonizing anyone.

I just want the Monarch to be a screwed up Rusty clone. Or vice-versa. You know Rusty didn't make those cloning vats. That's my pet theory anyways.

Digital Nomad posted:I just want the Monarch to be a screwed up Rusty clone. Or vice-versa. You know Rusty didn't make those cloning vats. Well, he does refer to the clones as "my life's work", and Brisby only ever mentioned that his father had notes about the cloning process, so I think it's entirely believable Rusty made them. The fact that fruits of his labor are two repressed and borderline retarded dorks would certainly fit in quite well with the themes of the show's humor (failure, impotence, gender confusion, premature ejaculation). I'm really glad that Rusty didn't become a villain, it would have been terrible if Rusty really did take the easy out of becoming a bad guy. I like the fact that despite being a terrible human being and a failure, he still knows where to draw the line in regards to being a bad guy. Also I'm firmly of the opinion that Killinger knew he would reject the offer and this was entirely part of his plan to help Rusty grow as a person (and he has, albeit in short, stuttery baby-steps).

Rusty becoming a villain would've been completely out of character. Villains have to actually give a poo poo about villaining. Rusty doesn't give a poo poo about that. He just wants money and undeserved acclaim in the superscientific community. He's not a villain, he's just a horrible person.

If Rusty went villain he'd be violating his deed or tax returns or something that say he has to dedicate 15% of his property to general do-gooding.

As funny as it would be to see Rusty try to be the bad guy, that episode was important because it helped show us what he thinks he's like. He may be cynical, a jerk, a sleazebag, lazy, and a terrible parent, but still sees himself a good guy. The implication that he was just a tiny step from being a supervillain was really emotionally devastating to him.

Funny enough, Jonas Venture fits that description, too, minus the lazy. The only difference is that he was a great scientist trying to better humanity and Rusty doesn't bother to try. But we've seen that Rusty does have a potential for greatness, or at least had some sense of responsibility to the world.

Speaking of archings that never happened, it was probably for the best that the Triad didn't wind up with Lady Au Pair and her Murderous Moppets. For all that they run around the same universe, her "more specialized kind of villainy" would be a terrible fit with their dimensional crap.

OK I'm finally caught up and wow. I laughed heartily through the first two episodes but I wasn't quite sure that I thought they were up to standard. "Zeus" got me back on board. I didn't like Heder's job as Impossible when he first showed up but I think he's growing into it. We're not going to get Colbert-style from him, he's going his own way, much as Jackson did with Sgt. Hatred after Brendon Small's work, which is appropriate now that he's gone villain and isn't bothering with his pompous "better than you" persona any more. I hope they stick with him because I can't take all this switching around. Treister rocks as always, as does Shore Leave (his "sissy" speech is fantastic) and 21 just can't stop being a geek, which is great because that's what always made him great, not his new guns. Brock's altercation with Tiger Shark had me rolling, and Billy and White bickering over who was really in charge while they're in an arena to fight to the death, gawd. RIP Ghost Robot. I can't fuckin' wait till tomorrow.
