Just reading the thread and I'm not too up on hardware, but thought I'd ask a few questions. My impression was that stuff like GPGPU was a big boon to low cost high performance computing applications like high frequency trading and scientific computing. What sort of market share do those applications represent and are they enough to sustain the discrete card makers? Also does this mean by this time next year that the sweet spot build in the system building thread might not have a discrete card?
