is it a common problem to not be able to root an Epic with z4root if you're using that un-finalized froyo build? Mine gets to "aquiring root shell" then vibrates a couple times and dumps back to the homescreen. I needs me some free wi-fi tether until I get a wireless router for my drat nookcolor. I'm not sure what else to use at this point to root it since everything I look for says to use z4root. eta: it helps to read the OP again, doesn't it? That new one-click root worked like a charm the 2nd time around. (failed the first time but hey, and the batch hung the 2nd time but resumed when I ctrl-c'ed it and said "n" KEEP TRYING DAMMIT). where do I download an updated market.apk to push to my nookcolor? I know how to get it on the device, I just don't know where to get the .apk from in the first place. If I pull the one from my Epic, will that work?

That worked, new market looks great on bigger screens and more importantly allows you to scroll past the initial page where the stock 2.1 market doesn't let to do much at all.

Get the Market working or there's not much else you can do that's interesting. Learn ADB so you can fix problems when you mess something up. That's it. Just with precise details so you don't break your new toy. You probably can't gently caress a Nook Color up enough to make it not be able to revert to stock but it's still good to be patient and read the whole thing. AutoNooter makes it quick and painless for the most part, nothing much to worry about.

I suspect this is mostly true with all wi-fi only devices which is cool with me. Some games have issues too (you have to hit the back button to get OpenFeint games to start for the first time sometimes) but it's pretty rare. It'll be even better once there's a good 2.2 ROM out there. Also: you guys need to be aware that the latest "OTA" update for the NC will break your root and all that so it's not a lovely idea to manually update it before you get the OTA notifitcation.

If the nook color screen were bigger it would be the best thing ever. As-is, I'm getting tired enough of the small screen that even with Honeycomb I feel like I need bigger. Still awesome as gently caress for $250 though hands down.

pretty sure anyone can put your SD card in anything and pull the data off. as far as I know, Titanium doesn't do any encryption so maybe if you're paranoid you encrypt your SD card.

I hate trying to mess with roms and partitions and sd cards in Windows. It's just so loving tedious compared to an OSX or Linux machine.

this has now made me slightly paranoid about using Odin to dump my DK28 Epic back to DI18 so I can run the OTA updates to the actual final froyo. I mean I'm gonna do it and if I brick my phone I guess get a Nexus S despite the fact that I dislike some parts of the phone but enjoy the idea that it will have better community support and Google support...

well, it's no CM7 but I finally gave up on using stock on my Epic and installed that Syndicate Rom Frozen 1.1 and holy crap it's great. Apparently there's some battery sucking bullshit hidden from Sprint and this basically does nothing more than pull that stuff out which in turn makes this phone into what it SHOULD be. loving lame that Sprint (and presumably other carriers really) are the ones loving up the phones and making GBS threads on their battery life.

Long term, the Xoom or something else is a better bet.
