I have a question about WitE as well, actually. I noticed Arkangelsk isn't on the map, but there's a railway depot that should connect to it. Does cutting off the Soviets' access to Arkangelsk cause them supply problems? It really should, shouldn't it? Edit: I cut off Lord Windy's question: Lord Windy posted:Right, I bought War in the East and I'm currently playing the Axis side in the 1941 campaign.

From what I gathered you really should play the smaller "Road to" scenarios first, but yeah the campaign is huge and it does take hours for you to move your poo poo. Like a guy in the Flash of Steel podcast said: "Hey I just spend the last four hours and here is the 1/3 I managed to do so far"

You can speed it up by pressing 0, which sets the message detail level to 0, although you won't get to see the results of the battles as they happen. You can then switch to F11's "Recent Battle" view mode to see what happened during the inter-turn. quote:what the gently caress do I do with my planes? I usually just set the Percent Required to Fly to 5% then leave it to auto. The only plane management I do is making sure any planes in the National Reserve get assigned to an airbase and moving my airbases to make sure they're in range of something. Pro-tip: DO NOT move your airbases until the very end of your turn, when you're done making all other moves/attacks. Moving an airbases prevents most of the air missions from firing. quote:Does cutting off the Soviets' access to Arkangelsk cause them supply problems? It really should, shouldn't it? It should prevent any industry / manpower from Arkhangelsk from being added to the production pool, but I can't find in the manual if you can affect Lend Lease North's contributions in this manner.

The game's mechanics are really simple, vast majority of the complexity comes from player interactions. Best way to learn the game is to go to http://www.crypticcomet.com/games/SI/SI_tutorials.html - read the AAR to get a feel for the game and a general overview of the mechanics, blitz through the tutorial and you're set to go!

dtkozl posted:Yeah I've played a few times and seen how bad it can get. I have all them but as of now only have marines installed, do I need to install the rest? Go ahead and install them because they add content (well, Marines adds the T90 which is what you need to even have a chance of equivalence in a Red vs Blue scenario), but the important thing is to make sure you are at 1.31. e: specifically I'd like to start with 'Al Huqf Engagement' and then 'Strength and Faith'. It might be interesting to LP it. Alchenar fucked around with this message at Jan 19, 2011 around 10:31 |

Yeah I just got a friend that I play occasionally and he only has marines, I was wondering if I installed the other modules whether he and I would no long be able to play together. I'm up to date otherwise, and if I need to just bite the bullet and install nato and british to play with you that's fine. You can email me at my forums name at yahoo.com to set this bad boy up.

Having a much more grognardy person go over it in detailed fashion would probably make me buy it. I'd love to see an LP of Solium Infernum myself but it would be really hard to pull it off, given that the entire game revolves around scheming and deception of your opponents--you can't exactly post about that in an LP thread, because then your plans are out there for the world to see which kind of negates the purpose of the game. Unless you did it like they did over at RPS and played the game in its entirety first, then posted the results--that might work.

I've read the manual, and I may just be thick but how do you evacuate your factories as Russia? I mean, I've gone into Rail Transport mode, but I just can't see how you do it. EDIT: Huzzah, you had to click the name of the town you were in. Stupid manual was a touch vague on that point. Of course, does it matter where you dump your industry? I went and just put it in small towns towards the east. Lord Windy fucked around with this message at Jan 20, 2011 around 05:17 |

Lord Windy posted:Of course, does it matter where you dump your industry? I went and just put it in small towns towards the east. I think the distance influences how much "damage" the factory takes, and consequently how much less stuff is being produced until it gets back to full. I don't really care though, like you I just dump everything in Siberialand.

Two questions. What's the plan to balance the contrasting needs of openness in the thread to keep the LP readable, and secrecy to keep the game winnable? I'm only mediocre at Solium Infernum, would that be a problem?

Mystic Mongol posted:Two questions. Well you have several options: 1) Do as the Dom 3 LPers do and play enough in advance so that your updates don't give anything critical away. 2) Play the whole game out and then just string out the updates. 3) Update as you play, with everyone emailing their updates to a third party who then posts them, with everyone giving scout's honour that they won't look in the LP thread.

Option 1 invalidates chargen secret plans like King Maker and Power Behind the Throne, and option 3 would mean we wouldn't be able to answer questions or pretend we're popular.

I prefer 2, get the game done and dusted then start posting. Any information can be crucial in this game. It would also remove the time constraints on updates. As for skill levels, that matters little, as long as your willing to put up a fight and write some entertaining updates.

If you've got 5 willing friends and a laptop to pass around I'd say hot seat beats pbem. Pressing space gives you a recap of whatever happened this turn, with decent enough options for sorting the events. A really, really useful undocumented feature that everyone playing should know of: right clicking the resource tab automatically sorts all your resource cards. It's not mentioned anywhere, but is absolutely priceless.
