V for Vegas posted:And they're pissed swastikas arent in the game! And this is what bugs me about the grognard subculture: Nazi worship. You know, I get that Germany is an interesting strategic challenge - I get that, I enjoy trying to beat the odds and conquer the world as Germany in grand strategic games as well. But you know, Germany in WW2, historically? It was *loving evil*. Demanding that you have a hooked cross as your symbol instead of a (also historically accurate if slightly out of sync temporally) tricolor flag shows you really have some issues involving history, Asperger's Syndrome, and that Jewish girl who wouldn't put out for you in 10th grade. The Close Combat series come closest to "ASL on the computer", by design. quote:Close Combat was developed as a computer game version of the acclaimed Avalon Hill board game Advanced Squad Leader (ASL). The primary consultant for the morale model was Dr. Steven Silver, a specialist in combat-related trauma. Atomic Games had already developed several games for Avalon Hill, such as Operation Crusader, and Stalingrad. However, with Avalon Hill embroiled in a financial crisis that would ultimately lead to its demise, Atomic Games took what work they had completed, severed ties with the board game franchise and completed the game's development for Microsoft. It is real-time instead of turn-based though. If you have to have turn-based Steel Panthers is your best bet. Lum_ fucked around with this message at Dec 13, 2010 around 18:10 |

I was in that one! I especially enjoyed when my question "will sequels to WitE be any more streamlined/accessible" was essentially answered with "No, we're going to make them even MORE complex."

How did they get around the small annoying fact that the US Navy can probably beat the rest of the world's fleets with one carrier group?
