bipolarbear posted:I keep hearing different stories about Earl. One says he got a skating ticket and his mom sent him to boarding scchool, or that he was sending out a shitload of text messages and wouldn't help pay the bill, so she sent him to a youth work program. It's not really clear, and things are being kept pretty quiet. Bottom line, he hosed up and is out of the picture for a while. in noz's wire article he says that earl got a minor trespassing ticket + his mom got pissed after hearing his music and he's pretty tight with OF so i'd assume that that's the correct story.

cardedagain posted:either way, i'd somewhat like to know the answer. Earl is still my favorite rapper in OF, even though I doubt he has the game-changing energy of a Tyler on national TV performance, which is a real blessing for the group. my interpretation: i believe what i mentioned before -- that none of them know where earl is, just that his mom sent him away. hence "free earl". however, tyler feels guilty because earl got sent away mostly due to his influence (the trespassing ticket, helping to turn earl into a well-known internet surprise sex rapper, etc) and doesn't want people trying to pry into private stuff like that, hence him getting pissed when people ask about where earl is. i think this makes sense, and i don't think that the dude who posted that they legitimately don't know where earl is would have any reason to lie + i know for a fact that he is really tight with OF, so if anyone would know it's him.

screenwritersblues posted:Most likely not. I know for a fact that Tyler posts on the boards over on the blog/online magazine called Hypebeast. He's been posting there for a few years now it seems. I looked over his posts and most of them are him asking the other users if any of any the items of the current season for sale. Most of the Supreme and Diamond stuff that they like, sells out the day that it's released and normally doesn't get released, unless it its just the general stuff that just keeps getting released over and over again. Supreme and Diamond are skateboard oriented brands at their core and really don't sponsor anyone outside of the skateboarding world. They're not like Famous or Macbeth footwear, who will sponsor anyone they want, they are very selective about who they sponsor and don't just sponsor anyone because they feel like it. Also, lu_ducky, if you can find the article, I would really like to read it and see if it's true or not. they aren't sponsored or anything but they get a lot of free supreme poo poo in particular, they've got connections and they're really tight with a lot of the dudes who work at supreme, diamond, etc in LA cuz that's where they all hang out

there's also a certain consistency in their aesthetic, from the beats to the lyrics to the artwork, videos, etc. that is really excellent. for such young dudes they have a remarkably well-formed vision, and that's refreshing and interesting. they're a bunch of charming, hilarious teenagers who don't take themselves (or anyone else) very seriously at all, yet manage to remain amazingly consistent in what they do.

better quality rip: http://adventoutpost.com/2011/03/od...ds-performance/ not as monumental and amazing as fallon, and definitely not as good just from a performance pov. the lyrics are just a complete mess and you can't tell what the hell anyone is saying more than half the time, especially during hodgy's verse. not that it really matters with how much energy they have on-stage, though. and tyler is seriously a loving awesome performer, dude has amazing body language

Falls Down Stairs posted:edit: Anyone else noticed that all the members of OFWGKTA have been referring to Earl as (what I presume is his real name) Thebe more and more often lately? I actually missed the earliest reference to him on Goblin the first time around since Tyler calls him Thebe instead. i can kinda understand that. i guess to them, as a person and a friend, he's probably "thebe". earl is the guy that thousands of annoying screaming fans want back so they can hear his music. they want their friend thebe back. i'm really happy with this album. i was kind of worried after hearing "yonkers" and "sandwitches" and even "tron cat" that it would just be like that all the way through -- catchy but conceptually simple tracks. i know there's more to "yonkers" and i've seen the interview where he talks about it, but it still has a very different atmosphere from most of the rest of the album. i'm glad he really did go the route of making this bastard part 2. to me, it's essentially bastard but taken even further. it's bastard but even crazier. even the structure of the album is hosed up and weird -- there are little songs within songs, extended instrumental interludes or big stretches of songs that are just one or two phrases repeated over the beat, and half the songs are uncomfortably long and end up just completely unraveling by the real end of the track after fading out and back in multiple times.

i was at the detroit show, people kept throwing glass bottles at them and eventually, in the middle of "french", tyler got pissed and told people to cut it out. someone responded by throwing another bottle, so tyler took his shirt off and started his usual GET THE gently caress UP ON STAGE WHOEVER THREW THAT schtick with hodgy and the others backing him up. then a dude got up on the stage for some loving reason and hodgy tackled him off the stage and kicked the poo poo out of him. they were gonna keep playing but syd either got fed up and left or got hurt, they said both. danny brown didn't have poo poo to do with it though, that's just dumb for real. it's a hilarious image though cuz he was apparently on tons of molly.
