TransatlanticFoe posted:Does anyone know if there's any way to replace the strings on the Mustang? Is there any way they can break in the first place? I don't know what they're made out of, but all six strings are comparable in gauge to a 6-E string, and they have a fair amount of wiggle-room. Whether they can be replaced depends on your opinions regarding the user-serviceability of plastic guitar instruments; me, I'm afraid to look in there.

Would be super sweet if it was just a clamp holding them on on either end. I'm also a bit curious as to how much wiggle room you have. $7 bucks for a set of Slinkys, and a wire clipper and you've got strings for a while. Plus if the possibility for actually having the proper string gauge for the correct "String" is there, I'd be a lot more willing to drop on the mustang controller rather than waiting for the Fender. I do think you'll be hard pressed to break one of the default strings though. I doubt they are under as much tension as they would be on a real guitar, and on top of that I'm guessing all six strings on the mustang are going to be somewhere around a .46 to .52. In 8 years of playing I can count the number of times i've snapped a .52 while playing on one hand.

I'm in the minority that I love this game's setlist. The 80s songs all rule, the indy stuff I love (Portions, Con, Combat Baby), Misery Business is a song I've wanted for some time and it's introduced me to bands I want to explore more: Riverboat Gamblers, The Bronx and Phoenix. I definitely like this list more than others. Including Lego, I think the track selections have gotten steadily better from 1.

Someone who owns the Mustang can probably answer this question a bit better, but on the demo guitar I played with the strings felt more plastic than metal - not the same feel as real strings at all. There was also a fair amount of play in the strings, although that might have been due to it being a demo model that had been abused.

How do we wrestle control over Van Halen's song "Jump" from Activision because this song is perfect for Rock Band 3 and the keyboard.

In case anyone was wondering, the old RB games just see the keyboard as a regular Xbox controller (it thinks you're a vocalist). I tried it in LRB last night. I was wondering if there was any chance of it showing up as a guitar controller, but of course that would require some decent patchwork to account for the lack of strumming and all that. (I don't actually WANT the old games to support this, I just tried it out of curiosity)

Song For The Deaf posted:My favorite side-effect of playing Rock Band is getting acquainted with songs I otherwise would have never been hip to. I'm thinking specifically of "Portions for Foxes," "Killing Moon," and "Just Like Heaven," which are all working their way onto my iPod and into my daily RB3 sessions. Don't tell anyone but I kind of like "Portions for Foxes"; it reminds me of Neko Case's stuff and she's great (she's got "People Got A Lotta Nerve" as DLC). Also "Just Like Heaven" is totally awesome and if you like The Cure you should check out Siouxsie and the Banshees and New Order DLC. Where's Arcade Fire? Harmonies, keyboards, great music; seems like a perfect addition to RB3.

That's suppose to be the "Free Play Mode" from what I understand. Also I doubt that the sensors and what not that detect what strings you are playing are tied to the pickup/jack.

Has anyone here had a good/bad experience ordering the Pro Guitar from Gameshark.com? It's worth the extra shipping to get it early, but I don't want to get burned like the Newegg deal. I'm about ready to pull the trigger on the order. Edit: gently caress it, I pulled the trigger. Worst case scenario, I get it shipped to me on launch day. Best case, I get the drat thing by friday. Ugh I couldn't stand it anymore and I just cancelled my online order through gamestop.ca and bought it through amazon.com in addition to a couple of other games in that buy 2 games get 1 free promo they have going on right now edit: bought the game that way and ordered the keyboard as well. Both in stock and for the PS3 at least the game+keyboard is $10 cheaper than my preorder through gamestop. And here I thought I was saving money by getting my pre-order in before they boosted the bundle price through the roof in canada. Hah! But it has been fun last night, going through tutorials and playing some songs on easy pro. Even did pretty good on some medium songs. It is going to take a bit of time to learn (A long time).

I've got five years of guitar experience, so hopefully I can hop in on Hard. It's likely that I'll be humiliated back down to Medium, though ![]() Now to binge my way through all of the standard guitar and bass goals, since I'll probably never play those again.

But each string is loose enough that you can almost touch it against the string next to it without moving that string. I don't know what they're made out of it but it feels sturdy.

Wanting to play normal songs on the pro controllers seems like an incredibly shortsighted desire to me after playing with the Mustang tbh. You either have to use the first five frets, the first couple of which are as wide as almost two of the regular buttons, or the bottom frets which are all incredibly small. The thought of playing them on the Squier seems even more painful. If you wanted to do it for the extra challenge you won't be disappointed. If you wanted to do it because you're too lazy to turn on another controller, you're going to have to make some adjustments.

So is the Mustang a good controller then? At least for some comparison to a real leccy guitar. Like it'll ever come out in the UK at this rate, though.

You could play in a group with other people from the huge pool of existent rb songs and also do some pro guitar. With the squier you'd be stuck swapping back and forth at parties or else be forced to play the <100 pro supporting songs rather than the 2000+ regular ones I suppose.
