I really like a show and there's no thread posted yet. Can I make one?
Sure, go ahead!
When can I post it? Do I need to wait until the show is actually airing, or can I put it up early?
It's always best to put a new thread up before your show starts airing, to generate interest and discussion. Anytime within a week or so of the first airing of the season is fine.
What do I have to put in the thread title?
It's not that complicated. Put the show's name first (so people can find it easily), and then some useful information.
Good example - House: Season 7 starts September 20 on FOX
Bad example - Hey guys turn on Comedy Central right now!
What about the thread tag?
We've got more than 60 tags to use, so pick one that goes with the show you're discussing.
Okay, so I've got my title set. What do I put in my opening post?
This part is up to you - just put some effort into it! Let people know when the show airs, use images, write up character listings, describe what happened last season, put up links to fan sites... whatever you do, don't make a half-assed effort or your thread might end up being gassed.
How do I get my thread pinned to the top of the forum? How can I have the title/tag changed?
Easy! Just send a PM to one of the forum moderators. (Please include a link to the thread!)
Why do some shows have multiple threads, and others have just one thread for the whole season?
This sort of thing tends to work itself out pretty easily. While there are a few exceptions (Saturday Night Live has weekly threads; Doctor Who has a UK thread, and a spoiler thread, etc.), pretty much every show will be fine for a whole season in a single thread.
Does my thread have to be about a specific TV series?
No, not necessarily. Take a look at some of the threads already in progress for examples. If you still aren't sure if you should post your thread on not, just send a PM to one of the forum moderators.
I missed last night's episode of my favorite show. Where can I watch it?
There are plenty of places to watch shows online legally (see the list in this thread).
Can't I watch my show on a live stream?
If the show you want to watch is free and not available in your area (like sports events, etc.) than it's not a big deal. If you just post "Anybody got a stream!???" than you'll probably get punished for it. Do your own leg work. Streams for pay content (HBO shows, etc.) are NOT permitted.
Nah, I'll just downlo-
Stop. Don't talk about downloading shows. Don't ask where to get them. You'll probably get banned.
What about YouTube? That's okay, right?
If it's on YouTube, it's fine. If it's not supposed to be there, it'll be removed by YouTube anyway.
What about screencaps or GIFs from episodes?
No problem. Just watch the file size - if the GIF is more than 1MB in size, post it as a link.
What else I need to know?
The discussion threads are to talk about the shows, not to troll the other posters. If you watched the show, you think it sucks, and you want to bitch about it, that's fine. Some people probably still like the show, so don't go in there just to tell them how dumb they are for continuing to watch. Everybody has different tastes, so don't be a jerk about it.
A couple of quick points:

A spoiler is information about future events in a show that has yet to air in the the country of origin (generally, North America). More specifically, the Eastern Time Zone (God's True Time Zone™). Once the show has aired on the East Coast (or wherever it's first aired, like the UK), it's fair game, so you should probably stay out of the thread until you've seen the newest show.
Information about upcoming episodes, including commercials, episode previews, web-only sneak previews, etc., is considered a spoiler, and you need to use spoiler tags. If you are speculating about future plot points based upon spoiler information, you need to use spoiler tags. If you are posting about something that has already aired, or if you are just posting general speculation, you should not use spoiler tags.
Joke spoilers are not funny, and they can cause people to accidentally stumble over real spoilers. So don't do that.
JULY 29, 2011 UPDATE
Casting information is not a spoiler. That means that you shouldn't be using spoiler tags just because you heard that Barack Obama will be guest-starring in next week's episode of The Big Bang Theory.
Information about the character he's playing WOULD be a spoiler. So, some examples.
Incorrect: "I saw on AICN that Obama will be in at least four episodes next season!"
Correct: "Did you hear that Obama will be playing Penny's real father?!?!"
That being said, if the casting refers to the return of an existing character on the show, that's a bit of a grey area, and may be a spoiler. Use your best judgement.

Hi everybody! We have a new thread tag in this forum:
It should only be used for the few spoiler threads that pop up during the year. If you use it for a non-spoiler thread, you'll get banned! Hooray!
Also, here's the rule about spoiler threads: if you use spoiler tags in a spoiler thread, you'll be punished!

Because apparently it needs to be written down: DO NOT POST ABOUT 'MY LITTLE PONY' ANYTHING.
