Does anyone understand the rules regarding choosing a fighter in Street Fighter for FX 2? It says to complete a combo but I'm not sure what exactly needs to be done.

I just got a Wii yesterday and was thinking of picking up the Williams Collection for it. Amazon has one used real cheap, but I wondered if I'm painting myself into a corner getting a used copy. Is there some digital downloads or something associated with it that I might not be able to get? Edit: Consider I didn't really even have a prior-generation console when I got this one, let alone a current generation one. So I really don't know the ball game with this stuff yet. For the pinball hall of fame collections even on the consoles that feature heavy download support there really isn't anything. You won't have an issue. FWIW the Wii got a port of the Pinball Hall of Fame Gottlieb collection also. I think the tables are better in the Williams collection but the Gottlieb collection is just as well done.

Got FX the day it launched.. same with FX2. Over time, I've downloaded every damned table, even Excalibur--which has strangely grown on me. The Marvel tables are their best work overall though. Anyone played the two tables they're bringing over from the PS3 version? Anyway, feel free to add me and obliterate my scores. I'm BoogerGolem on Live.

On some tables "shoot the lit shot" is really really difficult to make out because there is so much poo poo happening at all times (SotD has a bit of this going on, see Kraken Mode). Some of you may have seen a few pages back that I said I was going to build a custom pinball controller for all the new XBox Live pinball tables. Rather than a flash in the pan idea, quickly forgotten, I give you proof of my work! These are just some shots of test fittings and playability of the case overall. The case itself is built with Poplar. The fit isn't perfect yet, but this is literally the first time since high-school woodworking class that I've done anything beyond cutting a board in half. Some rough sanding with a palm sander should get everything a little more pretty. It will sit on my lap as I play, and I can slap the side buttons for the flippers. You might notice I incorporated the right thumbstick, letting it poke out of a hole to act as the "plunger". I wanted to do something with the left stick and keep it's table-bump function, perhaps attachign weights to it so it would move when you bumped the whole box, but confines are so tight where the pad is mounted that it just wasn't feasible. Luckily in the game you can switch the table-bump function to the D-Pad, and those buttons are right within thumb-reach from the left flipper button. I still need to finish the case in black, then get some art under plexi at the top, and then some chrome edge-protectors and ball-corner protectors on the very top edges. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

^^^ That's pretty awesome. I can't wait to see it when it's finished. ![]() I think I'm done with Williams Collection. Even with Sizone's advice (which was good by the way, thank you for that), I still cannot do the 'get to sun, get bonus' goal in Pin*Bot. I did get to the sun twice, but barely missed the bonus shot on the right drop target, both times happened on the final ball. I'm convinced that whoever thought that goal up must've had a really lovely day or something, because this makes Mario Galaxy 2's final star look like a piece of cake. I might either take a break from the game in general or just move on to another table and come back to it at a much later time. On the upside, I found that Wiimotes are really sturdy when slammed on the floor in child-like rage. Also, about the Marvel PFX2 tables, does anyone else's eyes hurt when they look at Wolverine's table? I dunno if it's my monitor's color settings or what, but the yellow is almost too blinding for me to play on properly, which sucks because it looks like a pretty fun table (as do all of the other Marvel tables). Spidey is really great, but Wolverine seems like I lose balls in the gutters CONSTANTLY and Iron Man is sort of just boring. Blade seems cool, but I have played the least of it. They are still really good, but I'm not sure I like them better than the FX2 core tables (except Rome, gently caress Rome).

Spidey is really great, but Wolverine seems like I lose balls in the gutters CONSTANTLY and Iron Man is sort of just boring. Blade seems cool, but I have played the least of it. Iron Man is fun if you follow an early pattern. What I typically do is focus on getting my kickbacks first, which is pretty simple, and then get into the suit as quickly as possible. The actual game modes are easy to trigger (just keep shooting for the center), and once you're there it's just a matter of repeating. Wolverine's harder to defend. I think it's a solid and fun table, but it obviously didn't get a lot of playtesting. I'm constantly restarting due to outlane drains. It shows a real lack of polish when you have to cross your fingers when hitting the Sabretooth area and hope the ball doesn't drop straight down the center upon exiting. I've even launched the ball, hit the skill shot, the ball drops around the back, hits the right bumper and shoots straight down the left outlane without the ball coming anywhere close to a flipper. A lot of video pinball games (and even a few physical tables) will deal with troublesome drains by very briefly lighting the ball rescue when a ball hits a notorious spot. They usually do this because the spot will be discovered after it's too late to physically change the table without creating more problems. Wolverine could benefit from this in several spots. In fact, since I've gushed about the new tables in previous posts, here's my major beefs: Wolverine: As mentioned, it's the unavoidable drains and drops. The kickback targets are extremely hard to hit, and aiming for them more often than not results in hitting the ball with the tip of the left flipper, the ball hits the bottom corner of the right bumper and drains right down the center. There's also a HUGE problem with the timer. If your primary mode target is a little tiny scoop in a hard to hit area, don't turn it off after five seconds. Iron Man: Whiplash really needs to stop swinging his lashes. It's distracting and you can lose sight of the ball. I wish it was a little easier to line up the shots when you're supposed to be firing energy blasts at Whiplash. There's also a bug in the skill shot where if you use the trigger camera to see which lane you need to hit, when it switches back, you can't see the plunger. At least not in view 6. Blade: This has a few unavoidable drains too, but not too bad. My primary complaint is with the top flipper. It juts out a little too much and it's much too easy to ricochet a fast ball off the left flipper, hit the bottom of the upper flipper and then have to scramble to avoid a drain. Also the usual complaint about being hard to see when it gets dark. Spider-Man: No real major complaints. It can be hard to see your ball when Doc Ock starts getting closer to the bottom, but he never obscures the bottom flippers. The skill shot's a pain in my rear end, though. Otherwise, I do still have the same general complaints with all of the FX2 tables. The physics are still "off" a little, and I'm pretty sure they compensate at times by changing the ball weight on the fly or even prioritizing certain angles in certain modes. It just feels like in some multiball modes the balls angles bias towards the drain, and seeing how they ricochet off of each other, the balls are definitely too light.

This, I don't know pinball terminology but thats the very outside lane? I've lost more balls to that then it dropping down between the flippers. On my 2nd game I scored 22 million on it which to me is amazing but I havent gotten anywhere closer to getting there again. It's a fun table to me and I hope to master it sometime in the future. On the spiderman one I love how the green goblins ball exploders and flips the flippers around on the controller.

I've learned the Spider-Man table a bit and am really enjoying playing it and getting my scores up. I'm still not very good, and I'm never going to make the three Mysterio shots in the time given. It's tough enough getting the right-flipper Webswing shot when going after the extra ball.

I just got the Williams Collection for the Wii. I couldn't find a way to forward nudge, and nudging generally felt pretty poor. The ball acted pretty much like it was on ice when side nudged, when my experience IRL is that a table with some friction will move the ball one way or another. It also seems to not so much nudge left or right, but shake all over the place. I did pretty good are Firepower my first run around. I played that a lot in Future Pinball so I was somewhat familiar with it. I do like how it explains the game rules for each table. Unfortunately I will probably pass out before comprehending all the rules for Funhouse. I could just imagine what the rule explanation would be life for ST:TNG if they ever had that in a game. I think I saw the probably a lot of people were talking about in Pinbot where the ball likes to go off the plunger, run around a little, then drain right out the left outlane before it ever graces the flippers. That was where I was trying to figure out how to nudge forward because I could have tapped a few of them from below.

Don't know about the wii version, but I found on the 360 that the "down nudge" (oddly, the one you can't really do on a real table) was the most useful. It slows the ball's momentum, but doesn't alter its direction too radically.

On the Wii I try to emulate a forward nudge by swinging both. Don't know how accurate that is. It's mostly useful for death saves on Gorgar.

Due to the way the game handles shaking there does not seem to be a risk of tilting doing this.

I think there's something wrong with me. My biggest problem with Pinball FX's Rome table isn't the poorly defined ramp boundaries or the low scoring mode that's easy to activate and locks you out of advancing other things for thirty seconds. What drives me nuts is how they've mixed Greek and Roman on the table. They're not the same thing, Zen!

So having played the Marvel table on both the 360 and PS3 (tops of my friends list on all those tables on PS3 I'm not sure if it is just that the 360 controller feels better for flippers (I never feel very in control of the ball on the PS3), or if I really do see some physics difference between the two. The ball seems to get wonky more on PS3, randomly losing momentum or swerving in an unrealistic way. Also, the artwork seems much more crisp on the 360, which is a huge difference maker when playing at the most zoomed out view (which seems like the ideal way on most tables). That, and my 360 friends have way higher scores... Add PSN ID Hal_1ncandenza for some pinball love. Help me get a gold trophy! Also I need someone besides chumps on my high score list to keep me challenged.
