Picked up Season 4, and I'm liking a lot of the tables. Starship Troopers is pretty fun, but I cant help but wonder how seriously they take the theme of the movie. I cant tell if they are echoing the parody or actually think ST was an awesome war movie and are trying to make it epic

After I replaced the chair kickout weldment on my TAS, suddenly the switch stopped working. So the ball will sit in there until the table starts cycling all the solenoids, when it pops out fine. If I flip the table up, I can poke the switch with my finger and the solenoid fires. Put the table back down, sink a ball in the chair hole, and nothing. Maybe it's aligned incorrectly? I can't figure out how the ball isn't triggering it.

Probably just not depressing it fully. Sometimes those have a pivot adjustment where one of the two screws is on a slot instead of a hole. Failing that, bend the arm until a ball resting in it gives you an audible click.

Also make sure the diode or one of the wires isn't loose. Sometimes when they're barely connected, they work in one position but not another.

I got lighting in my garage working, so I finally got around to messing with my Hardbody. So I bought this for $160, because they guy that got it from a storage unit sale couldn't get it to start, but all the lights and readouts made it look like it is working. I figured out the coin mechanisms aren't working. I don't know why, yet, but I'm not too worried about it. I got online to figure out how to put it on freeplay. It has a weird little keypad that navigates the menus, and in the freeplay options you must enter "65" to activate freeplay. Absolutely no way to figure that out without documentation. One flipper barely worked, and the others aren't super strong, but I cleaned the solenoid arms and they work much better and every shot in the game can be accomplished. Someone replaced any bad bulbs and several rubbers before it was put into storage. The nuts holding the plastics were replaced and they look nice, but they don't properly secure them. One in particular is cracked and floppy and when the ball hits the standups at that spot it has a tendency to make the ball go airborne. Overall it's a fast game, and fun in my opinion because of the "flex save", but the art package is just really bad. I thought about trying to retheme, but when googling people were worried about the heavy breathing noises it makes when it's time to launch a ball. While messing around with the sound settings, I figured out you can turn that off. In reality, I'm too busy and lazy to retheme it, but it is the perfect candidate.

Over the summer I've been getting way into the pinball in my area. Fortunately the barcade near me has JackBot, Addams family, and a bunch of other machines. Now that this thread has introduced me to Pinball Arcade I guess I don't have to blow my money over there as often. If I just want to buy one season, which one gives me the most bang for my buck? e) Also is there really any value in picking up the Pro pack compared to the Table pack? I really enjoyed the Lord of the Rings pro, but found the Metallica game to be completely lacking. Am I just missing something when it came to Metallica? The little mini wizard Turn It Up modes in Metallica are really fun.

It might have been that it was the most expensive machine at the bar (75 cents compared to the regular 50) so I just had this underwhelmed sensation when I was done. I just kept hitting it into the snake and bouncing it around thinking "is this it?" I think I might just be spoiled by Addams Family and other machines.

I just kept hitting it into the snake and bouncing it around thinking "is this it?" I think I might just be spoiled by Addams Family and other machines. As was mentioned it's definitely a rules game, especially the Pro which is a pretty plain pin toys-wise. It has a mostly good ruleset that is maybe a little spammy for the multiball starts but otherwise encourages you to shoot around most of the playfield, try for some tough stacks, and make some risk/reward decisions. Try to get a handle on whats going on with the rulesheet and/or papa video if you want to give it another try. The basic idea of the usual strategy is to bash Sparky and sometimes grave for multiball starts, score and collect Crank it Up items during the multiball, and then score even more points in Crank It Up. Multiball scoring is mostly oriented around getting the snake doubler/add-a-ball, and if possible also stacking it with the fuel doubler, then collecting jackpots/super jackpot while the 2x or 4x is running. Pretty fun game and also a great one for improving nudging and multiball skills.

Alright, can't vouch for every table but I just tried the new physics with Funhouse. Some weird poo poo is going on like balls getting shot out the back of Rudy's head, "vacuum suck" where balls will be obviously sucked into ramps when they go near them... also balls seem to really want to drain down the right outlane but I don't know if that's a bug or a feature. I have a bad feeling about this physics implementation

I couldn't really tell if they implemented the new physics with Ripleys, but man I love any excuse to play that game again. Ripleys has to be my most played TPA table, both because it's been around the longest, and because I have only been able to find a handful irl and never got a lot of time with them. Underrated Pat Lawlor gem.

You shouldn't try hitting the bash toy from a dead stop on the center post, but you will find a sweet spot. Also use the plunge button if you have a smart punch. When you get better you want to save them for harder fights. I had the same problem, then found my groove and the first couple fights for easy when I calmed down.

What literally the gently caress is the deal. Is it just me? Welcome to Real Pinball I had more right outlane drains in the first few hours trying the new physics than I had in the dozens of hours prior to that in Pinball Arcade. I think a thing we're all going to have to adjust to is what shots not to take now (because the physics is pretty consistent... not always but mostly). We'll probably also have to nudge a lot more vigorously to keep the ball alive. It's no different than if you'd been playing a real table at a local bar that had a gradual slope and then the owner decides to adjust it to be steeper, you have to get used to the new feel of the table.
