That is freaking awesome. I too have built a few MAME cabs from scratch and was looking for a new project. Oh man, really tempting.

- AC/DC
- Transformers
- Tron Legacy
- The Rolling Stones
- Ripley's Believe it or Not
- Iron Man
- 24
- World Poker Tour
- Family Guy
- Shrek
- Batman (Dark Knight edition)
- Wheel of Fortune
- Spiderman
- Pirates of the Caribbean
- Simpsons Pinball Party

Plus some more classic machines, including a few EM tables:
- Black Knight
- Hurricane
- Nightmare on Elm Street
- 8 Ball
- Genie
- Jet Spin (may be gone now, I haven't seen it in a while)
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (may also be gone)

For all the love the Bride of Pin*Bot DLC is getting in this thread Cirqus Voltaire is going to flip everyone's lid, I promise you that. It's an extremely difficult game to emulate correctly via VpinMAME because of the amount of "things" going on. Most modern kick-rear end vid cards are able to bridge the gap in the frantic light sequencing but the sound emulation has never been right which I am most curious about seeing and hearing if Pinball Arcade can really nail it down. They did a really good job with TOTAN and Theater of Magic which were both problematic pins to emulate (especially TOTAN) so I'm pretty confident they can get Cirqus Voltaire on par or better than what they did with TOTAN.

It'd be really neat to see Revenge From Mars, The Pinball Circus, and Baby Pac-Man all somehow end up on the DLC slate. And Wizard Blocks with artwork!

I haven't had a chance to check out many of the pinball games on PSN. (I don't own a XBOX) This thread makes me want to go pick up some of them. It's nice to see that they are putting out virtual replicas of old machines instead of just making poo poo up.

I live in Portland, which has probably already been mentioned as having a poo poo-ton of pinball machines at bars and whatnot. Some of my wife's and I's first dates were getting high scores on WHO-Dunnit. It's not as fast as some machines since it keeps asking you to guess who the killer is, but it's pretty goddamn fun.

Besides adding more playable camera angles, another PHOF feature I hope they add to PA is the ability to pause, zoom in, and pan the camera around so you can see which lights are lit and read the text on them.

Another sort of broken thing you can do on Arabian Nights is just shoot the bazaar over and over. That gets kind of boring though.

Can anyone hit the right captive ball in Arabian Nights reliably (to advance the bonus multiplier)? I can hit the left one no problem, but I'm so bad at hitting the right one that I'll start multiball or wizard mode just so I can relight the left ball and hit that one again. I've been experimenting with all sorts of weird nudges and bank shots to hit the right ball, but no dice so far.

I finally got past my incompetence point in TOTAN and got the harem multiballs and my last standard goal done. I was on fire that game, I went all the way to freeing the princess (thanks to all of those here who pointed out that you have infinite multiballs when you fight the genie as long as you keep putting them back in with the plunger). My previous best was 23 millions and that game I went over a 100 millions. I was satisfied with myself. So I go check the wizard goal... I did all of them in my magic game but they did not register because you have to start a fresh game after completing the standard ones.

The left rollover in the top trio does nothing when the ball goes over it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AYNoy6c9E8&t=01m09s You'll see a few seconds after this video starts that the ball goes from the left upper flipper into the left top rollover from below, but I get no sound, no score increase, and my bonus should have gone from 2x to 3x.

Can't get away from broken tables even in a virtual format. *sigh*

Yarr.

My wife and I went over to the arcade today, which finally had Stern's AC/DC out for public play.

Not being a fan of the band or Stern's more recent tables, I went in expecting the worst. I saw the playfield art, which is a hideous drawing of... some AC/DC guy, and the photos of the band look like they were taken from a Google image search, badly cropped, and pasted onto the machine. Not looking good*.

Once I hit Start, the gameplay completely changed my mind. The table is full of awesome features. When you start, you select an AC/DC song, which will add a multiplier to all related targets for the rest of the game (for example, Hell's Bells makes the bell target worth more, etc.). I wasn't clear on all of the table rules, but I managed to figure out how to activate two of the multiball modes, which were both standard "hit lit ramps/targets for jackpot" sequences. There's a cannon on the right side that can be loaded and fired, although it seemed pretty inaccurate and I was never able to hit the correct target.

The angles are excellent. The ramps and orbits are well-placed, and ramps rarely reject a well-flipped ball. The only target I had trouble hitting consistently was the bell, which is at the end of a narrow lane just to the left of center. I'm sure it just takes practice. As a bonus, the generous outlane position prevents a lot of "bullshit" drains, and I didn't see any situations where a kickout or ramp path led straight to a center drain.

Control-wise, the table is solid. I'm not very good at advanced techniques like live catches, but I was able to post transfer and even do a couple of passable three-ball cradle separations during multiball. The rubber on the flippers seems to have higher-than-normal friction, which makes it very easy to catch and control balls from the inlanes. The machine I played on is brand new, so that might fade over time.

I'm not a very physical player, but I was able to nudge my way out of trouble more on AC/DC than any other machine I've ever played. It doesn't hurt that newer Stern tables are light as hell -- a quick slap to either side is enough to get decent movement on the ball. The tilt on this machine seemed overly lenient though (a pretty hard shove to save an outlane drain only gave me one warning), so your mileage may vary.

Overall, I was impressed. AC/DC isn't much to look at, and I'm sure it helps if you enjoy the band's music (I'm apathetic at best), but the gameplay is awesome. You can get some decent playtime on a single credit, but it never feels too easy, either.

* Seriously, look at this poo poo:

The back glass box is 21" wide and 17" tall.

Posted two minutes ago on The Pinball Arcade's Facebook page.

The Pinball Arcade posted:

We are very excited to announce that the next two Pinball Arcade downloadable tables will be Cirqus Voltaire and Funhouse!

Cirqus Voltaire was designed by John Popadiuk and released under the Bally label in 1997. It features a dot-matrix display mounted in the playfield, a pop bumper which rises during gameplay, and a moving Ringmaster head. This table makes nearly everyone’s top-10 list of the best pinball tables of all time!

Funhouse was designed by Pat Lawlor and released by Williams in 1990. This is an iconic table featuring a talking animatronic head named Rudy who responds in real-time to game events, including taunting the payer and following the ball with its eyes. Funhouse was featured in FarSight’s Pinball Hall of Fame several years ago, but this version is all-new and uses our ROM-emulation technology instead of the scripted rules simulation we used previously.

Both of these tables will begin appearing on Pinball Arcade platforms in May!

Another Williams Collection table but also Cirqus Voltaire . Played it a bit in Visual Pinball yesterday, fun table.

Looking over that potential DLC list on Pinballarcadefans, I'm disappointed that there are zero Gottlieb tables mentioned, especially since they cancelled the XBLA Gottlieb collection to do TPA instead. I know the tables in the Gottlieb collection are a bit simplistic and outdated, but surely there are some out there besides Black Hole deserving of digital remake. Cue Ball Wizard from the Microsoft Pinball Arcade collection is quite fun. Hell, I wanna see them put something like Slick Chick in just to see how people react.

Hopefully they got a hold of the audio masters for Funhouse, as the originals contained in the shipping tables are scratchy and annoying as hell. It's usually hard to notice in an arcade because of the noise, but Rudy's voice samples sound like they're being transmitted over a CB radio.

SNATTER'S ALIVE?!?!

Two excellent choices.

Funhouse is a classic Lawlor table with almost all of Lawlor's idiosyncrasies. It's a typical layout example for its era -- work to set up multiball, run multiball for million-plus jackpots, repeat cycle -- but it has a wide variety of shots that build towards the locks, a decent array of alternative scoring methods (building to Super Frenzy on the mirror, Steps awards, progressively larger Trapdoor awards, gangways), and Rudy is just such a loving fun playfield gadget.

I think this happened to me today, and then a minute later it worked with a rollover from above. Hopefully they put in a better update system for the tables -- I had no lights at all on Black Hole until I reinstalled the app.

Despite the glitches I keep going back to that table. The open playfield is like a rigged carnival game that looks so easy to master.

Speaking of Black Hole glitches - has anyone ever got to a point where the lower playfield stays lit no matter what, and it will not let you lock a ball on either playfield? I don't know if this is a glitch or the rules of the game, but I got two or three multiballs before this happened. Also just to slide a little brag in here, this was my only really good game on this table, got the bonus up to 2 mil on one ball mostly from playing multiball on the lower playfield. Ended up with 5.4 million at the end of the game. I have top 10 psn scores on all the tables except TotAN, which has a lot of suspicious ps3 scores (Ripley's meanwhile has a bunch of highly suspicious mobile scores on the leaderboard).

Also being a pretty rabid pinball player when Cirque Voltaire came out, I don't remember anyone calling it a classic or favorite table back then. There are a lot of toys and it looked cool as hell in a dark arcade, but I remember the rules being pretty simple and the ball would always get stuck on the Ringmaster head. I'll still buy it of course but to me its a little questionable bringing out three VERY similar tables(ToM, TotAN, CV) in such a small time-frame.

The Internet Pinball Database says pinball fans have voted it the sixth best solid state pinball table of all time.

That said, I definitely felt like having ToM and ToTAN as two of the four launch tables was a bit much. I love mid-90s pinball as much as anyone, but those two tables really are quite similar in feel and that's a bit of a shame when there are so many other eras to cover.
