Nitr0 posted:Because NZ is maybe 700,000 square km and Canada is 10 million square km. That would be a valid point if the government wasn't paying for all the infrastructure to low-density areas in Canada. Really, the companies are only responsible for the network they have in densely populated areas. They made the exact same arguments when they held their cell phone monopolies and it was just as bullshit then as it is now.

DarkJC posted:So my brother and I are home for the summer, and between us and my parents it seems like our Rogers cap of 95GB (Don't even get me started on how they keep increasing their speeds and lowering their monthly caps, our 95GB cap is grandfathered) is going to be stretched pretty thin. I was monitoring just typical day to day usage the last 3 days and we're already averaging >3GB a day, and that's not including any out of the ordinary big downloads. Admittedly that was over the weekend, but still. Acanac is so bad. Their customer service is poo poo and like 1 in 3 people have billing issues with these guys. Distributel is also pretty bad and they are both congested as hell. My advice would be to go with Teksavvy. Costs a bit more than Acanac/Distributel but their CEO posts on DSLreports.com regularly and they've even gone through the motions of cancelling signups when speeds were too slow - something Distributel/Acanac has not done and it's showed for the customers in the past 6mo. Just do some research on https://www.dslreports.com and decide what you want.

I just switched to Teksavvy Cable this morning and it feels so drat good not getting throttled on my torrents. Also speeds are better than Rogers eve though I had 15/1 on Rogers too. Seeing downloads at >2mb/s whereas I was only getting ~1.5mb/s with Rogers. Feels good.

rhag posted:Is it possible to activate TekSavvy before cancelling Rogers (let's say...give them a week or so)? Yes. Just order it on Teksavvy's website with activation date like a week before the cancellation date for Rogers.

Lone Rogue posted:Problem is, TekSavvy Cable users in Ontario use Rogers lines, therefore they can get throttled by Rogers. It's something we cannot prevent and only monitor and report. This isn't true.

Teksavvy finally updated the York Mills POI for cable. I'm getting 3.1 mb/s sustained on a torrent I just turned on. Pretty good poo poo.

This is literally better than my home internet connection, too bad it's limited to 6GB/month.

I got some notices for porn too. It seems they're spamming a whole range of IPs or something. I've haven't downloaded downloaded porn through torrents for at least 8-10 years now...
