I'm really excited about this. I hope it works as well as advertised, because this is some incredible functionality.

I love Grain Science a whole bunch. you can apply time-based automation to almost every single parameter in it, record new samples directly into the grain units for new synth fuckery, and it's got that "supercharge" that channels all the synth voices into one note. I'm kind of at a loss to find something it isn't good at doing. I keep meaning to mess with addictive or arctic keys but I just keep starting up grainsci instead.

Sorry to disappoint. Next time I know what to do.

I can't take full credit for the idea. There is a DIY project called Disky that makes use of the platter directly for use as a rotary knob. My solution is wireless (and cheaper), though.

Everyone is encouraged to post their music/audio stuff here. I really like to hear what people do with their iOS devices. If anybody wants to, I can link their SoundCloud in the OP as well, so my iOS Music SoundCloud account is not alone there.

Lately I've been rendering out all channels from songs I make in BeatMaker 2 and importing the WAVs into Multitrack DAW for mastering, as Multitrack DAW has a parametric EQ (beats the poo poo out of BM2's anemic 3-band EQ). The compressor in Multitrack is pretty good too. Multitrack is a pretty good alternative for polishing tracks if Auria is too expensive or overwhelming.

I really wish BM2 had sidechain compression.

So a couple of synths with eye-catching feature sets have been released recently.

iceGear released an iPad version of their CASSINI Synth. It has 3 oscillators, among other things, so it's capable of producing some really thick sounds. Definitely worth $3.

Yonac released their Magellan Synth for iPad. It's got some impressive features but I've never been a fan of Yonac's apps. They just sound sterile and lifeless to me. It's $5.

So, BeatMaker 2.3 came out today. It's really awesome. If anyone's on the fence about getting BM2, just get it. It's easily worth the $20. It's packed with features, without being cluttered or overwhelming. It doesn't have a built-in synth like NanoStudio, but the sample-based synth it does have can create multisample instruments, so you can paste in sounds from other apps like Animoog.

Hopefully the devs give the effects some attention for the next update. A parametric EQ would be nice...

I bought Yonac's mini synth pro recently and although I haven't had much time to mess with it, I do hear what you mean. Magellan does look interesting but if mini synth pro is any indicator then I probably won't jump on it right away.

Genome MIDI Sequencer is 50% off too. Is it like Ableton Live, where you have a pattern matrix that you can use to trigger individual patterns that sync to the beat?

Animoog also got an update and a MIDI-Out IAP, which I welcome. It's pretty expensive though, with €3.99, so I haven't bought it yet. MIDI output is a great feature for iOS apps though and I wish all the synth apps would get it.

Edit: Sunrizer for iPad and NanoStudio are 50% off too and SunrizerXS for iPhone is free

Help me. Explain me. Tell me.

Suppose I want to make remixes. So that's vocal tracks - full length tracks - and electronic magic.

What's a workflow on that? Make the beats separately in one app, and then mix them in another app? I bought tabletop, love it, but still trying to figure out what the hell I'm doing. Everything I've found seems to be fantastic for making songs, as long as all sounds are originating in that one app.

I've got to be missing something.

MultitrackDAW gets mentioned a bunch in the thread for mixing audio clips. I would also get Hokusai with the Copy/Paste IAP (and maybe some other IAP for effects) to to sample editing and transfer between apps. Unfortunately there isn't a good all-in-one solution for your case yet. Maybe Beatmaker 2, but I'm not sure what you can do with audio clips there.

So there's this thing called audiobus that should be done soon.
http://audiob.us/faq

this is a BIG DEAL
this thing allows programs to stream audio to one another in the same way that virtual MIDI is sent around between programs.

this means that you can have a mixer, lookin' something like this:
http://audiobus.tumblr.com/post/232...remote-triggers
and with this mixer you can record all your programs at once. you can even send the audio over wifi to another iDevice.

so for example you could have a bunch of synths running on an iPad (i like using Grain Science and DM1 at the same time, for instance), which you then connect via audiobus to an iPod touch running Loopy to loop your poo poo. (apparently one of the Loopy devs is working on this thing)
or, one of the developers just posted about being able to run SoundPrism through NLog's FX section.
http://discchord.com/blog/2012/8/23...s-audiobus.html
fuckin' interprogram FX.

if this poo poo is approved by apple (and implemented by lots of audio programs), we'll all basically be able to use iDevices as FX modules/loopers/instruments all feeding into one another. like a crazy meta-mixer.

I just got my iPad a couple of days ago and have been playing with a number of music apps. My impression so far is that a lot of them are just fun toys, but some are actually useful. Simple as the interface may be, I can see Samplewiz finding a home in my regular toolbox. iKaossilator is fun, but it really seems angled towards people making a type of music that I have no interest in. Morphwiz is somewhere in between, and Garage Band seems extremely limited but fun (i.e., a good toy but not much else). In summary, it seems like serious and awesome things are possible but there's a lot of just gee whiz toys to sort through before you find a setup that does something serious that you actually want done.

I didn't mean any disrespect, I'm just honestly curious because it doesn't seem like it's too viable at the moment as someone who can't get his hands on some of these apps. I'm heavily considering purchasing an iPad with an emphasis on creating music but I don't know if I'm sold yet.

Alright, I'll preface this by saying that the following is pretty dumb and goofy, I'm not really a musician, and these songs are but here's a link to my tindeck account of songs I made entirely with Garageband on iPad for the Tails Gets Trolled thread.

http://tindeck.com/users/JFlight (skip the speech mp3 at the top, that's unrelated)

(sample song here) AGAIN,

No external mics, no other synths or apps, no computer editing (aside from mp3 compression), but you can kinda get an idea of the instrument quality and what you can make with just Garageband of all apps.

Have a look through the OP. The majority of Apps in there are "serious" music Apps which are complex and offer very good audio quality. Of course it depends on your workflow, if it makes sense for you, but there are a lot of quality Apps that play in the same league as good VSTs, even offering MIDI and multitouch control.
