2nd set: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xT34TtLQOKQ
3rd set: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYDioTAjSwU

You'll notice I gear whored it up from the 2nd set on with my efs heavy elbow sleeves. And don't be hatin' on my lucky strongman headband.

Did about 6 or 7 sets of 5 multiple grip chins/pullups throughout this mess.

Conditioning:
5 bulgarian bags from 15-60lb, pick up each, step up onto tire, put over pullup bar, then 10 heavy sledge swings per side, then battling ropes + prowler pull mash up, then push prowler back to start. 1st round: 1:22, 2nd 1:19, then no tire so I had to jump/toss bags over the bar for the 3rd: 1:23.

Good stuff

Fun strongman day! I didn't sleep enough last night but I overate to try and make up for it. I did ok.

sled pull/keg load/tire flip medley -found out the hand over hand pull for the comp is standing and I'd been practicing by sitting in a tire, so we'll be doing it right from now on...

sled: 200, 250, 300
keg: 160, 160, 160
tire: 5,5,5

then I puked up my burritos I'd eaten an hr earlier

circus db each side:
55x3, 65x3, 75x3, 85x1, 95x1, 105x1, 115xfail a million times on the left hand, then finally got it

axle clean and push press:
140x3, 170x3, 180x2, 190x2, 200x1, 210x1, 220xf,1 dats comp weight

farmers 50': 125/side, 175/side, 225/side, 275/side -lol no

I miscounted bc I am retarded, I thought it was 255 and the one before that 205, but oh well. Felt like i gave myself a hernia, but I just pinched some fat/hair or something.

Zercher and axle mil press day

Warm up upper and lower stuff

Power snatch: 65x5,5, 95x3,3, 115x3,3, 135x4

Zercher squat: 75x10, 125x5, 165x5, 205x3, 235x5 -oops gotta go pick up the GF from the dentist early...back 10 min later: 185x5, 215x3, 245x5,5,5 -whew

Axle press: 75x10, 105x5, 135x3, 145x3, 155x3, 165x5(UGLY last rep), 4+f(last rep was sloppy and I got stuck and gave up), 5+f(all reps in the groove, tried to make up for missing a rep on the 2nd set, but eh)

Did one set of 5 pullups and 4 sets of 5 chins between those

Conditioning

push prowler +50 down and back, empty prowler down and back, and then a 45lb plate down and back (bout 40-50' each way)

1st round: ~1:30 god jesus my quads
2nd round: ~2:00 sweet LUCIFER my QUUUAAAAADSSS
3rd round: ~2:30 really? gleutes and hams and calves stop working too?
4th round: ~2:15 dark prince of the UNDERWORLD don't let my tendons fail me now

no pukey

That was the most brutal thing--of course you can't really breathe the whole time, but to add to it your legs completely stop working and I was just putting one leg in front of the other, and extending my knee. Never stopped on the way from one end to the other, but it got reeeeeallly sloowwwww. Glad it's over.

log incline/deadlift day

Power cleans up to 205 or something around there. Decided that everytime I go into the gym I'm going to power clean at least 200, to get used to the feel of the weight.

Log incline: 105x5, 135x4, 155x3, 165x2, 175x1, 185x5,5 195x5 decided that since it's about to be a deload week, I'd see if I could hit this, and it was a solid set. Thor has video which will hopefully make it's way to me...

Did pendlay rows mixed in there: 155x8,8,8

Axle deadlift: 165x5, 215x4, 255x3, 305x2 (failed the double overhand but at least got it up to my knee before grip gave out) 345x1, 375x1,1, 405x1, 425x1, 450x1 woop! If the axle at Brute Strength has knurling on it, I'm good for a few more lbs.

side note: I found that I really hate my SPUD INC deadlift belt for deadlifts--love it for everything else tho. It just digs in really bad since the nylon/velcro part is like 1.5" wide and in the middle of 4-5" one ply nothing material. I bet the thicker DL belt would be better. But it rocks for oly lifts and stuff like that.

ABZ: 5 rounds of 6 ab wheel rollouts super set w/ 10 standing average band crunches

Conditioning:
3 rounds of: Flip the baby tire 12 times, get heavy bulgarian bag and swing/snatch it 8 times, then swing it all the way around my body (overhead) 8 times each way. Hard to describe, but pretty painful.

-------

My weight is stagnant and I blame it on my girlfriend and also lack of will and quitting smoking (again!) Also training like a son of a bitch gives me a major appetite. But this upcoming deload week will be all low carb except any family meals, in which case I'll just have that one meal and maybe some shakes to get all my protein in. After that I have to bump up my volume of low intensity cardio and really dial in my eating.

Also, a sad time indeed as I will refrain from drinking more than a couple beers a week

I'm really starting to consider the reality that I may need to enter the Novice division. The updated press medley numbers for LW have a 115 circus db, 220 axle, 240 log, and 200 keg. All of those are pretty much at or slightly above my maxes, and doing one after the other as fast as possible...I dunno if it's doable.

But, we'll see how things go. I'm going to a local strongman's garage to train on Sunday. Gonna do some real fuckin' stones!

ATLAS STONES!!!!

Luckily I did a little warm up mobility and stretching before I got there. It was cold and the only warm up was a few quick sumo pulls of 135 and then:

Stone to 48-50" platform:

240x1,1
270x1,2
300x1
330xlap

300 took a few tries to finally get, and I must have attempted 330 a dozen times. Lapped it a few times but just couldn't get it past about halfway up from there. Tacky helped a lot with the 300 and 330 picks.

Then pulled the prowler about 100' or something like that--mailbox to mailbox
+90 forward and backwards
+90 forward and backwards
+90 backwards both ways (FFFFFFFFuck my quads)

Wish I could have been doing stones every week or so from the start. That 330 is gonna be my bitch next time.

Ready for my deload now. Light weights and cardio and nary a carb this week (e-except for family holiday meals)

ps- ripped a good lb of arm hair out from the duct tape

5 sets of 3 chins

rest day

pre 1st meal mini workout:

20min walk

35lb db curls/skullcrushers: 1,2,3,4,5,4,3,2,1

Sent in my entry form for the comp, decided that I'm going novice. Which means instead of being dominated by experienced, stronger, fitter guys, I'll get dominated by inexperienced, stronger, fitter, younger, lighter guys But, I'm still going to kick my own rear end, so I'm cool with it.

Deload day 2

Power clean: up to 205x1 -nice and easy

Incline axle press: up to 155x5 -not super easy, but fine

Superset w/ pendlay rows: 125x5,5,5 -easy

Axle deads: 165x5, 255x5, 255x3, 305x1, 345x1, 405x1 -nice and easy

Conditioning

With a partner: one does a lap with the prowler, while the other does kb swings (18kg) for 3 rounds -evil but fun
-----------------

Ate about 2200 cals yesterday, minimal carbz. Today, I ate a carb though, b/c how can I resist going to eat sushi with my friend's 3 year old??? You wanna tell her Uncle Paul isn't coming to lunch because he is trying to make weight next month??? That's what I thought. Anyway, I rigged her chopsticks up with rubber bands and stuff so she could eat like the grownups Plus we got to draw sharks and fishes and whatnot on some new light up florescent crayola thing she got.

I'm not worried about a little ol carb, since it was a training day and everything.

I'm ready for some post-xmas heavy sessions.

Back into the mid-240s after Christmas Should be able to drop 10 of those lbs in short order, though.

Did a little mini cardio workout at home since the gym is closed due to weather:

shoulder warm up
ave band good mornings x25
ave band standing crunches x25
push ups x25
35lb db power snatch x25/side (5 at a time with no rest until I hit 25 ea)

The plan for the next little while is train hard the next two weeks, and then take the week of the contest mostly off.

I'm not feeling quite as stressed since I decided to go novice, as the weights will be more manageable. Only tough part will be next week when I take a little mini vacay with the lady next Wed-Sun. I'm going to try and get 5 big training days in before then, then train the Monday before the contest, and try not to bloat too much while I'm gone (to keep the water cut easier).

ninjaaa: just got a message that the gym will be open at 4. Sweet.

Paulie
Jan 18, 2008

Real training session:

Mobility stuff, then:
Power snatch up to 135x3
Power clean up to 215x1

Decided to start running through the events, so today was the Press medley and Carry medley

115lb fat db (both sides), 180lb axle, 200lb log, 150lb keg:
1st round 1:55, 2nd round 1:03 -time limit is :60 so I still have some work to do

50' farmers 155/side, 50' 400lb yoke, tire x3:
1st round :33, 2nd round :29 -I think I can still shave off more time pretty easily

And that's that. Thor has some video, so if he posts it, I'll post it here.

Sled pull/sandbag/deads medley: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mw1YJ8Z_dCM

Today I just did the last medley with sled pull and whatnot.

Here's how it went:

*Preface: last night for no reason I ended up drinking like 10 Spaten's after eating really clean and well *

I wanted to get in and out quick bc there was football to watch. My garbage warm up was this:

couple lunges, some curls, tri extensions, face pulls, a dozen 135lb sumo deads

power cleans: 135x3, 185x3, 205x1

medley:
1st round: 1:03? something like that, had the sandbag load too high, couldn't get it worth a poo poo. Felt like I might puke but it wouldn't happen.
2nd round: 1:19, more trouble with the sandbag, definitely gonna puke now.
:puke:
3rd round: added belt and did it in under or just over a minute (as seen in ye above video)

And to top it all off, the Pirates are getting their rear end handed to them in DC.

e: looks like someone broke youtube...

Noice work!

Have you tried keeping log and keg tighter to you off the floor? Think of it as a bent over row to the knees, where you row it up, pulling it tight against your body with your lats and sitting straight down with it, then rolling it over the top of your chest. Like the dude demonstrates in this video here at about 1:26. I like this variation since it keeps the log very close on my chest and it makes the width a bit easier to deal with (though you're bigger than me so it's probably not as much of an issue for you), and it can also be faster if you're aggressive about rowing the log up straight to your knees.

I figured this out by trial and error a few weeks back, but I still have trouble with it when I'm fatigued. Another cue to remember. Also, my sweaty underarmor shirt didn't help. Gotta remember to wear a shirt with a graphic on it. Maybe a dragon or skull or olde english type or something.

plc, I know the feeling. The good part of that is that the bug has bitten you hard enough that you'll always keep training since you'll always have something new to try.

Just get something from EliteFTS. Every serious strength competitor is required to have a piece of EliteFTS apparel. If you don't all of your training will come to nothing.

Barring that, get something from Bulky Boy, cut to under 200lbs, and watch other bearers of the apparel go apoplectic!

Paulie
Jan 18, 2008

LOL I actually own way too many elitefts t shirts

Today I got a text that the bros were doing stones again, so I hauled rear end and met up with them.

warm up: sumo deads 135x12, rdl 135x12, hang cleans 135x10, couple lunge stretches

stones:
240x2,2
270x1
run: 270, 240
270x2
300x1
run: 300, 270, 240
330x1
run: 240, 270, 300 then tried for 300 for another rep immediately but there was no tack left to my tacky

I forgot to ever put on my belt but who gives a gently caress, I got the 330!!!

Gonna go eat a thing now. I'm gonna fail my toxx since it's 2 weeks out and my weight is going nowhere and there's no way I'm gonna try and cut 15lb of water. I'm just going to kick rear end and not give a poo poo. I'll do a serious cut when I'm not training for a strongman contest. Sorry twink lovers, no six packs abs this year. But for all of you who want to pack on some size and strength, SM training is the way to go.

So, throw me some suggestions for a good charity.

Paulie
Jan 18, 2008

Yep, good ol' duct tape. Makes having body hair suck just a little. I think at the contest I'm gonna stick some extra tacky on the back of my forearms and just reapply when I get to the 300, depending on how dusty the stones are.

If I'm not using tacky and just practicing with one of the light stones at the gym I'll pull my elbow sleeves over my forearms.

My next goal will be to get the 360 stone, but that one might take a while.

Power clean: 135x5, 165x3, 185x2, 205x2 -ugly and heavy too

press medley
DB/Axle/Log/Keg
55x2/75x2/105x2/150xclean
75/125/155/150
95/155/175/150
115/195/215xF (tried to go heavier than comp weight-stupid)
115xF
115xF
115xF
115/195xF (going back to comp weight)
115/180/200x no clamps weights fall off one side grinding out the press/gently caress this gay earth

I yelled and threw my belt around and poo poo like a big gay baby
