I managed to break the charge cable for my nook color the other day. Is it ok to charge it with a normal microusb cord or do I need the special Nook one?

You could also run the Duokan OS on kindle. It will let you read epubs without converting it. It's supposed to be a little better organized than the regular kindle firmware. I haven't tried it. But they're going to have a big release next month that will have more features. http://en.duokan.com/ Release trailer http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/ECpiDP2IDKo/?phd=99

This means that books emailed to your @Kindle email can be read on iPad and you can use WhisperSync on books other than books bought from the Amazon store. Does this work on the android version? I can't seem to sync the books I emailed to my kindle address to an android device. The "deliver to" options are just grayed out.

I bought my dad a Kindle touch for Christmas, and he's having problems with registration. He linked his Amazon account, the device says its registered to him, and on the Amazon site, it shows the new Kindle in the registered devices list. But when he tries to buy something on the Kindle store, it asks him to register again. Are the servers just swamped with new users this morning?

People who've gotten through to customer support have been told it's on Amazon's end and to try again in a couple hours.

I think the whispersync option won't show up if you only have one device or one app registered. It's not clear from his post whether the account he put the Kindle on already had an app or device associated but if it now only has one Kindle and no apps, whispersync options may be hidden as it has nothing to sync to.

My mother got a Kobo Vox for Christmas and it's been left to me to set it up and I am ready to beat my head against a wall... I get to the part where I need to connect to the wireless network to set up the Kobo and when I enter the password the button that says "connect" stays greyed out. I even contacted Kobo technical support and they had no idea. The password is correct. Any help or suggestions would be really appreciated, especially since my parents have been arguing about this for two hours now and it's grating on my nerves.

Have you tried entering a long string of characters to see if the button enables? It might need a hex key instead of the password. Also, try temporarily turning off the security to see if it can connect.

Adding to the eBook for Christmas frustration! I got a Sony Reader (Touch) PRS-T1. I have never even touched an eReader before and within a few seconds of using it I noticed that the screen flickers every time I go to a new page. Not just a quick flash to black, but a few seconds of flicker that is really irritating. I did all the troubleshooting and resetting and firmware updates. Maybe I am just too used to my iPhone and its smooth transitions. Is it just something I have to get used to? I know it's a first world problem, but it bugged me so much that I didn't even play around with the thing to discover any of the features or put any books on it, I just assumed it was faulty. Should I bother trying to replace it? Should I try a different eReader?

Watch the youtube review of the PRS-T1 and see if it looks like what yours is doing. It's possible that yours is faulty. The new Nook Touch and Amazon Kindle don't do the flash thing for about 6 pages, so it's slightly less annoying, but in all reality you get used to it quickly.

So all eReaders have that flicker? That is really disappointing.

I got my nook Table for Christmas today and love it to death. It's so much faster than my old first gen Nook. I also go a surprise when I opened the box too. Inside the box along with my cover and screen protectors, was a micro SD card. I didn't notice it at first, but as I pushed the box away, I noticed a clear case at the bottom of the box. Turns out my father got some kind of deal where he got the card with 200 books preloaded on it. I had a few doubles from the free program that was done when the nook first came out, but I just deleted all the ones that I had and left the ones that came on the card. Now a major question comes into play. I got a $50 gift card to Barnes and Noble from my aunt today and want to get two books and possibly few apps if it's possible. Can I use my gift card to buy apps or not?

I want an eReader mostly for loading with PDF documentation and technical whitepapers. The Kindle DX seemed to be the best answer when it came out due to the larger screen, but it looks like Amazon hasn't bothered to update them in a while and the pricing makes me think they really don't want to sell them at all. Am I right in thinking I'd be an idiot for buying one now, and if so is there anything else worth looking at in the same class? Does the regular Kindle possibly not suck as badly as I expect it to with PDF content formatted for print? wolrah fucked around with this message at 05:54 on Dec 26, 2011 |

The DX is expensive because having a 10 inch e-ink screen is expensive. You can usually get a used one for much less though! It's listed for $250 or so here used http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-list...s&condition=all

No, it sucks on the smaller e-ink screens. There was a woot deal for the refurb DX earlier this week, but you're probably going to have a better experience on a tablet if you mainly want PDFs/technical docs.

When the person's been reading a book on it for about an hour, they will probably stop realising it happens, and it becomes akin to turning a page. The great thing about an E Ink reader is that it eventually just feels like reading a book, the device itself just kinda disappears. I've never got that feeling when using anything with a backlit screen.

If you look at the last page of the Android Tablet Software thread in IYG, there is a discussion about PDF on android tablets. If you don't want to bother looking there, even the supposed "best" pdf reader, ezpdf, is slow on my nook color running android, and people in that thread with faster tablets seem to have the same problem. Like when you flip pages sometimes it takes 5 or 6 seconds. I find it to be pretty frustrating.

Generally it works with Barnes and Noble ereaders. You'll probably have to strip the DRM and possibly convert it using calibre before you load them up, you will probably have to side load them.

Speaking of Nooks and gift cards, is there a way to add one to your account through the nook? I wound up finding it on BN.com, but it would be nice to do it just from the unit.
