Seconding Duckman's suggestion. While I have a Aura HD myself and absolutely love it, I pretty much only use it for reading mobi/epub format fiction. If you want to read image-heavy PDFs with large file sizes, a regular tablet would be much more suited to your needs. But if you're sure you want an eReader, then (currently) the Aura HD would be your best bet, simply because of the screen's higher resolution. At least that's what I've understood so far.

I'll be the odd man out and say that I actually prefer reading PDFs on my Paperwhite than my iPad. I set the contrast to maximum and unless there is seriously small annotations or something, I have had zero problems with just about every PDF I've ever tried. Now I'm obviously not saying that an iPad or Android tablet won't be faster and crisper than a Paperwhite, but the reading EXPERIENCE for me is much more enjoyable on eInk.

I've owned both devices old nook light, and the latest kindle paperwhite light. I love the nook comftroble shape and the side physical buttons, but nook has amazing software and support; saying that both has for the most part region locked the Middle East, but nook went all out. Needed to get this off my mind

Didn't even know this was coming and got 26.78 from this, sweet! I do find it odd that I'm getting credit for overpriced books but it seems to me that Kindle books are more expensive now than they've ever been (for the most part).

Went to order a Paperwhite 3G for my upcoming trip, but Amazon is showing the 3G model as out of stock until mid-April. Guess I'll hold out for the 2014 model, whenever that arrives.

drat it seems like that antitrust thing was forever ago, but it's just been a couple years. According to the online FAQ, the credits are distributed at a flat rate based on whether it was a NYT bestseller and was from one of the five named publishers in the lawsuit, and also you may get more if you live in Minnesota:quote:
I got a whopping $.73 because apparently the only ebook I bought during that time period (April 1, 2010 through May 21, 2012 according to the site) was Consider Phlebas. AND it was on sale for $.99 when I bought it, so I made out like a bandit!

And they sent out a notice like a year ago saying this was happening but without much in the way of details.

I've been repairing the really awful Table of Contents in a large book in Calibre, the problem is that there's hundreds of stray TOC tag things in the HTML files in the format of "<p id="ue261af8b-3721-436f-9b36-437ec202f947">" and the like where the faulty entries led. How can I clear out these unused id tags so that only the ones for the actual entries remain?

Install Windows posted:There is no convert dialog in the edit book system/workflow. I've never used the edit tool. The S&R option is under the dialog that you use to convert book formats. Right-click -> Convert books -> Convert individually... I guess you are supposed to make the ToC corrections in the editor then strip out the leftover tags in a conversion.

Is there a way to customize the new, working tags? Like give them some identifying info that a regexp can detect? Also, does leaving a bunch of dead ToC anchors in really matter?

It matters enough to me that I cleaned up a thousand-entry TOC the first time, I'd rather finish the job and clear out all these orphan tag things.

I don't know exactly how ToCs usually work or whether there is other important formatting stuff in your file, but can you strip out all of the html and regenerate the ToC from scratch?

Redoing it from scratch would take a good 5-10 hours here, ideally clearing out the unused ones should take less time than that.
