We are nearing the one year anniversary since the launch of Gran Turismo 5. The game launched in a near beta state, and was very unfinished. Polyphony Digital didn't make off with our money and disappear though. No, they've actually been updating the game a lot. Adding in new features based on player feedback. Coming out on October 11th is the Spec 2.0 update, and then a week later is DLC that includes new race cars and tracks.

The Spec 2.0 update includes the following:

quote:

Simplified interior views added to all standard cars.
User control of the weather change feature.
Settings sheet which allows you to save multiple car settings.
New Spec 2.0 opening movie.
Improved UI response and usability.

Mid-race save feature for endurance races.
Expanded online lounge features (narrowing down car types, shuffle races…).
Expanded Photo Travel features (you can now take photos of cars together with your avatar).
Added “NASCAR Pit Scene” stage to Photo Travel.
Added 11 new 2011 NASCAR models.
Added the Nissan GT-R N24 Schulze Motorsport (the car in which Kazunori contested the 2011 Nurburgring 24 Hours).

Gran Turismo 5 has been out for a while now and Polyphony Digital has been working really hard to right a lot of the wrongs the game had at launch. Since release we've seen an increase in experience gain for doing A/B-Spec races, weekly online racing events that pay out a lot of money and are fun, a weekly online dealership that lists the most rare and popular used cars, lots of customization options for multiplayer, remote races from your computer, more car tuning options and more. A very large patch just recently hit that brought a huge list of changes and improvements to the game and more are on their way.

GT Life

This is your simulation mode. It works in a similar fashion to Forza 3 in that there is a level up system with a max level of 40. Each racing event, series and special event has a level requirement. Complete races, special events and license tests and gain experience points and you will level up. Every car is also available for purchase this time around, but they all have a level requirement as well. This is to make it more casual friendly, so all players have a chance at earning the really nice cars, but can't just grind it out or ask their friends to send them the cars either.

My Lounge

In Gran Turismo 5, every player has his or her very own private racing lobby online called "My Lounge." Only people on your PlayStation®Network Friends list can enter.

In My Lounge, players can pick the track of their choice, set up custom race regulations, and hold private custom racing events with their friends. Up to 16 players can race at the same time. It's even possible to sit back and watch without having to join the race yourself, with a variety of race camera views available. People in the lounge can even do free runs around the track before the race begins.

Imagine this: You set a time for a race using the in-game messaging feature, and wait for people to gather while you do free runs around the track. Your friends start to join, with people doing laps to warm up. Once everyone has arrived, it's time to race. Anybody not racing can watch the race live and chat with everyone else there.

Course Maker

Gran Turismo 5 introduces the Course Maker feature, which allows you to generate your own original tracks.

Select the environment and terrain, and then adjust a variety of parameters such as course length and corner sharpness to easily create a variety of tracks that match your taste. When you've created something you really like, share your original track with your friends online, and use them to race against your friends in My Lounge.

Course Maker adds a wealth of racing options to expand and customize your Gran Turismo experience.

Course maker themes:

- Toscana (Tarmac)
- Eifel (Circuit)
- Mt Aso (Tarmac)
- Liege (Gravel)
- Alaska (Snow)
- Eifel (Kart)
- Tokyo Bay (Kart)

Levels of Vehicle Damage
Performance Damage
Performance damage affects how the car performs based on calculating the physical effects of collisions and damage on various parameters. It affects vehicle stability and control, depending on the amount of damage taken. This level of damage affects both premium and standard cars.

Dirt, Scratches, and Dents
This is damage that can be visually seen, and involves the vehicle collecting dirt, scratches and dents. This level of damage affects both premium and standard cars.

Dislodging and Deformation of Body Panels
This third level of damage causes body panels to come loose or to deform from their original shapes. This level of damage affects premium cars only.

code:
                                      Premium Cars Standard Cars
Performance damage X X

Version 1.10 Update:
Racing Gear Items

New racing gear items consisting of helmets and suits have been implemented. These can be used by players in A-Spec, or for any of the “My Drivers” in B-Spec.
There are plenty of variations to the racing gear items and, in addition to several sets being given out as presents when you start GT Mode, players will be able to win new ones when successful in online events. Players can also take a photo of their drivers wearing their favourite gear, and use that custom photo for a driver profile.
For more details, please refer to “Racing Gear” under Top Menu - [Manual] – [GT Mode].

Special Online Event Campaign

For a limited time, all event prizes will be tripled, and all cars appearing in the Online Collector’s Dealership will be brand new (0 mileage) and at half price.

Prizes for online events

GT5 will now offer online events in which players can win Racing Gear items and cars as prizes, according to performance. The content of the prizes and the conditions for winning them will vary per event.
Details of the various events are found in [GT Life] – [Online Events].

Parts purchases through the Settings screen

In the Settings screen, parts that players have not yet purchased will now have a shopping cart icon appearing next to them. These can now be purchase on the spot. Purchased parts will immediately be equipped on their car.
For details, refer to Top Menu – [Manual] – [GT Life] – [Settings]

Improved Opponent AI Algorithm

The search range of opponent AI has been expanded and their intelligence algorithm has been improved.

Interrupting and resuming Championship races

In the championship races of A-Spec and B-Spec modes within [GT Life], there is now an interrupt button in the quick menu which appears after completing individual races.
If the interrupt button is pressed, the event will be interrupted and a player’s record up to that point will be saved, and the game will end. The next time the player starts the game, they can continue the championship race from where they left off.

Additional music track

After playback of the ending movie (*short version), “Day To Live/daiki kasho” will be added as a bonus music track.

Other Changes

Check the physical endurance of drivers that are resting in the B-Spec endurance races.
Sort the garage by [Last Car Driven]
In [Weight Adjustment] of [Settings], players can now see changes in the front to rear weight balance when the ballast position is changed.
The A-Spec driver is now displayed in the profile screen.
In the pit menu of B-Spec, the time limit for being able to direct pit work has been changed from reaching “0″ in the count down, to “Until the car comes to a complete stop”.
The sorting order of the music album has been improved.
When selecting a track created in Course Maker from the course album of Arcade Mode or GT Mode, players can now run single races with up to 16 cars. (Excluding some tracks such as those made before the update, and dirt tracks.)
It is now possible to take 3D photographs even without connecting a 3D compatible TV.
It is now possible to export 3D photographs to [Photo] on the XMB™.

Correction of Known Issues

PDI has addressed the issue of the maximum speed set in the transmission settings of the settings menu differing from the actual top speed of the car. This will affect cars equipped with the relevant transmission tuning part, and almost all racing cars. Cars for which each gear ratio was adjusted manually with a full customised transmission in update versions 1.07 and earlier will not be affected.
An issue with the increase and decrease of the online logon bonus has been corrected.
An issue where the player’s car and opponents’ cars braked at the wrong timings in the pit lane during B-Spec has been corrected.
A problem where racing sound effects were turned off after changing settings in the quick menu has been corrected.
An issue of how dirty the oil is when players purchase a used car not being affected by the car’s mileage has been corrected.
An issue where some of the driver gear colours had changed after the 1.06 update has been corrected.
An issue in the championships of GT Life where opponent cars kept using the same tyres in the second race and onwards has been corrected.
An issue where the menu BGM was being played back during remote racing rather than the race BGM has been corrected.
An issue of the program freezing when opening a garage containing nearly the maximum number of cars has been corrected.

A new “Expert Challenge Race” Seasonal Event has also been made available with the following races:

Trial Mountain in a Fiat 500
Tsukuba in a Lotus Elise 111R
Laguna Seca in a Subaru Impreza Sedan

Had to correct the OP just now. It is the 24th not the 23rd. Weird date though I know, games never come out on a Wednesday in the U.S. I hate that so much because it means if Amazon screws up you aren't getting your game until Friday.

Do not engage or respond to me, as I am an insufferable prick. I love posting about posting or posters, rather than actual content. But it's cool because I'm smarter than you and have the correct opinion on every matter.

He's probably referring to the fact that most games come out in the US on a tuesday, so his confusion is warranted.

I think Sony's going for the Nintendo angle, where they release their AAA titles on a sunday. Release it on a non-standard day and you attract more attention because literally nothing else is coming out that day.

Now I won't even get to play it until the 28th.

The OP had the 23rd and I've always heard the 23rd for some reason. But thanks for being your usual Feenix self, Feenix.

THIS IS HOW YOU REMIND ME OF WHAT I REALLY AM

I haven't bought a Collector's Edition of any game in probably the last 5 years. That will change in a day or so. Cannot wait.

vvv if you can take your eyes off the road long enough to pay enough attention to your car's interior shadows, you're not driving fast enough.

Looking at some replays, the jarring shadow effect on panels is really distracting. I obviously can't wait for the game, but it's really disappointing to see.

Check out the 2:00 mark on This

I guess. The internet is pretty good at combating confusion, though. Just sayin'.

Mr Speaker, I withdraw my statement that half of the cabinet are asses - half the cabinet are not asses.

Great thread ISCI! It's nearly here, just a few more hours for us Brits (for the most part)
