For those of you wondering how to join friends online lobbies, here you go. First go to the Community menu. A list of your friends should popup. If you see a green dot next to their name, that means they are playing online. Click their name and another menu will popup. At the bottom of this one, there is a little coffe cup that says "Lounge". Click that and wait for it to load (right now it takes a long time). When it loads, an option should appear letting you join their lobby. I just got finished playing a few races online and it was pretty fun. Didn't notice any lag at all and the lobby host was actually able to limit each race to specific cars that he wanted. [edit] Be warned though... This can take a long loving time to do because of the current server issues. Once you actually get into the lobby though, it's pretty smooth. Initialy it was going to use a turbine but they said the V6 was a more feasable idea. Unfortunately it will never be built unless they are able to secure a mahoosive r&d budget for it, which for a one off car that isnt ledgeable for any racing series is a bit of a waste.

Beat the Top Gear Van Race. You have to be absolutely insane in Chicago and the second-to-last corner to make up any ground, since that's the only place that the other vans slow up. Second-to-last especially. I made up 2.5 seconds a lap on the other vans there.

Why in the gently caress would they make us pick 1 of 12 pre-made driver outfit color schemes, then force us to stick with that decision FOREVER? God drat, the more I think about all the stupid development decisions PD made, the more it pisses me off. edit: it's either gray outfit, red gloves... or grey outfit, grey gloves. So goons, which one should I pick? The decisions is yours! edit 2: gently caress it, I'm going grey grey. I'd hate to start liking some car with a brilliant shade of deep green or something and be forced to play Christmas Themed GT5 from here on out. My GT history is spotty, but I did complete GT1 100%, most of GT2, most of GT3, and I never really got into GT4. So my first lap ever had to be Grand Valley Speedway. I was a little surprised to see tire wear and fuel conumption in Time Trial mode, but I didn't look for any race options before I started. I just jumped in that Spoon Civic (I think it was a Civic) and did some laps. It was like coming home. Then I bought the Civic EK and did my first Sunday Cup race on Autumn Ring, and I enjoyed it immensely. I'm used to having to brute force the AI on little rings like that one, but in this race I was able to pass cleanly and felt really good when I won. I'm stuck at work until about 11pm, but then I have nothing to do but race until Friday. No racing this weekend as I will be at the folks', out of town for our Thanksgiving get-together. PSN is DrFaustus777, I'll add it to the spreadsheet. I'll try to score a headset tonight. See you in the IRC channel!

So after playing for about an hour with the DFGT, I've decided it's fun to drive with the wheel, but it's not fun to race with the wheel. Going in to a corner and get nudged a little bit? Enjoy the wheel spinning 720 degrees. Going on a straight away and change gears? Torque steers the wheel 180 degrees and you can't recover. I'm not sure how you guys do it, but it's not for me.

It was interesting playing this off and on during the day here at work while I attempted to get a new computer setup. Some things are amazing as others have said, but all of us UI guys took a look at GT5's UI and it's honestly mind blowing what things they're doing. They've basically laid the entire thing out like it was a webpage and somehow shoehorned it into being usable on a console. It makes no sense as a way to enable people to play the game fast, but I guess they have some crazy UI person who loves making webpages and wants to continue doing it even though they're a videogame developer now. The most annoying thing to me is that for a lot of the screens if I hit circle to go back I don't immediately go back, instead the pointer focuses on a new button which I then have to hit X to go back a screen. It's loving idiotic, counter intutive and mindbogglingly stupid. If we did that on our game people would explode because it makes you do a lot more button presses just to navigate around. I also have no idea how they get away with some of the loading times because Sony gets on our asses all the time for non-interactive states between screens. I guess when you're Polyphony you can get away with murder in regards to Sony approving the game. Either way I can't wait to actually play it on a larger screen and with speakers tonight.

So where the gently caress is the custom soundtrack support? It's not like MvC2 where you just pick what you want from the XMB, and I can't find anything related to it in the menus.

It improves as you work your way up in the difficulties, but even now in the Advanced bracket, the AI is still almost entirely ignoring my presence (except for on big straights, where they will let you overtake) and slamming into me at will, effectively spinning me out and ruining the race. It's really aggravating and light years behind modern-day racing AI, even in arcade racers.
