I really like this game, but some things have me scratching my head as well.

I hope everyone knows I'm not trolling. Right now I have a super boner for the racing and I don't even normally get into games like this. The game is what it is. Hopefully patches come fast and furious to fix some things. I'm mostly just baffled that certain things ARE the way they are. It's like 10 years of game industry leaps have NOT permeated some forcefield at Polyphony.

Anybody who enjoyed F Class races in Forza is going to be in absolute heaven with this game. Unfortunately a lot of the really cool old cars are standard so you won't have a cockpit, but there's some drat cool poo poo in there. Also I'm probably a raging homo for liking that the Used Car selection is small and constantly updating, but it seems like a nice way to encourage trading of cars between people and ensuring race grids are quite varied (in theory).

The more I play this though, the more excited it makes me to see what GT6 will eventually be like because they have such a great base game to expand upon (like GT2 and GT4 expanded on GT1 and GT3).

Overbite posted:

This is in no way exclusive to GT5. So many games these days just contact some server somewhere constantly for absolutely nothing that actually benefits the end user. You disconnect the internet and find your single player experience is 100 times better. I don't know why these companies think this is a good idea. Don't they realize how lovely things will be when someone tries to play these games 10 years from now when the servers aren't up anymore?

Oh, I am serious. Look, this is my serious face.

Signing out of PSN really decreases the loading times between GTLife and other menus. This just goes to support the claims that it is the GT Servers that are causing these issues. Hopefully this can be fixed on their end pretty quick.

Mine was only about 20-30 minutes. I have an old PC but have since replaced the hard-drive so maybe that's why.

Head tracking in Arcade only is the first thing that has seriously disappointed me. I paid a hundred bucks for a Move so I could use that feature. In retrospect I should have waited until after release to hear reports on how well it worked, but I guess hindsight is 20/20

Now this is a loving install right here. Been going for like an hour. I had to make sure I actually had 8gb free on my hard drive.

Had to get this game because it feels like it's one of those games that defines the PS3, like God of War III. I figured I might get a little fun out of it every now and then, but it's certainly not a game i'm going to spend hours and hours. But for $35 + $25 gaming credit, I really couldn't pass it up.

An extra year would have got us I dunno, an extra 50 premium cars?!

GT5:Prologue launched back in 2007 with about 70 premium cars. 3 years later we have 220, meaning that they've managed to crank out only 50 per year

Hopefully they've learnt from their experiences developing GT5 though and will either start hiring more staff, or do what Turn 10 do and start outsourcing car/track creation. I mean think about it right, they've really struggled making this game for PS3, how long is it gonna take them to make a PS4 game when the time comes?

Don't answer that.

Ive not seen it yet, but I have noticed that in most games, tracks are much flatter than their real world counterparts. Think Road America in Forza vs real life. Maybe they improved that in GT5.

At first I started playing without installing. Then the Fanatec wheel started vibrating and randomly selecting things, which I've seen before in Prologue, so I quit. Then when I restarted the game (with the sixaxis instead) I got (and remain) stuck on a screen that says:

code:
Confirmation

Accessing game data
Please do not switch off the system while the HDD access indicator is flashing.

OK
Except the HDD light isn't flashing, it won't let me select OK, and it's been 10 minutes. I have no idea what the gently caress is going on but I'm pissed off and bored now. I tried quitting the game and deleting the save which prompted me to download the patch again when I tried restarting, but nothing happens past the annoying "accessing game data" screen.

Then I read that some of you are having problems because of the network, so I unplugged the ethernet cable but no, still the same loving screen.

I think I might have hosed something up, but compared to the userfriendly Xbox 360 and Forza I'm not impressed so far.
