Holy poo poo. My go to B-Spec low effort money making series has always been the Dream Car series. It used to give 22k per race and then 200k for winning the championship.

The indiviual races give over 100k each now

I did it with Automatic on my 3rd try. I use a wheel though.

It basically came down to learning how late I could break on the turns and get away with it.

What about AT/sticks? That's what I'm doing now. What I mean is, is there a speed advantage to using manual transmission? I assumed using AT just made it shift optimally for you automatically.

No automatic shifts are far from optimal. Most people say you can gain a couple of seconds a lap on most tracks by switching to manual.

Has anyone confirmed that there actually are free cars for participating? Because the FAQ says:

http://us.gran-turismo.com/us/academy/faq posted:

Each week during the initial five-week time trial period, players can get a free digital download just for competing in the time trial events, regardless of where they are in the rankings. Content includes exclusive PS3 themes and an exclusive GT Academy racing suit for PlayStation HOME. Prizes to be awarded after the close of Round 1.

In addition, at the end of each week, the top 20 competitors on the national leaderboards (combined lap time) will receive a Gran Turismo 5 poster. The top five will receive a Logitech Driving Force GT steering controller, plus a poster for being in the top 20. And the number one player will receive a Playseat Revolution (Gran Turismo 5 Edition) racing seat, plus a Logitech Driving Force GT steering controller for being in the top 5, and a GT5 poster for being in the top 20. However, once you win one of the prizes, you become ineligible to receive the same thing in later weeks, meaning the next person in line becomes eligible to receive that prize if they haven't already received one.

At the end of the open time trial period, all 128 players per region who move into the next round will also receive a voucher for Gran Turismo on PSP. Among the 128 player per region, the top 16 that move on to the regional finals also receive a Gran Turismo 5 Collector's Edition. And of course, the top 8 players per region that move on to the National Finals live event receive a round-trip ticket to the event, plus accommodations during the event.

Themes and Home outfits, woooooo

I realize I'm being snobbish about it, but the game is less than a month old and a ton of people are looking to use a glitch to get endgame rewards. I feel pretty safe in saying that would be frowned upon in most game threads.

This is why I'm hesitant to do it, honestly. But at the end of the day people are free to play the game however they want and who am I to deny them.

Also I take solace in the knowledge that I unlocked it legit and everyone who gets a clone is a scrub

And on that note, ill send mine to the first person on the list in about an hour. Everyone who gets a copy keep in mind that my X2010 is down about 50 bhp will need an engine rebuild soon.

Connect an external hard drive, go to the saved data utility, highlight your GT5 save and hit triangle, choose copy, then choose your external drive.

Then you send the X1, go back to the saved data utility, open up the external drive, highlight the old GT5 save, hit triangle, choose copy, then tell it overwrite the save currently on your PS3.
