Open Excel and check gamefaqs for information. Devise a listing of all cars that are not Premium and then use that list to avoid (if possible) ever playing with a Standard Car.

Well that's easy info to get. The cars you can buy from the dealers are premium, the cars you buy used are standard!

Not too sure how to tell what the prize cars are, though. You might need a spreadsheet for that to avoid those standard cars... if you're a huge sperglord whose video game good taste is beyond that of lowly, cockpit-less standard cars, that is.

I was kidding but to be honest, it's not the lack of cockpit that bothers me. I think there's 3 levels of car and I'd like to avoid the really ugly ones (GT4-up-ports?)

HAYYYY WE WANT SOME COOOOOOKAYS!

So I went to ToysRus after having the guy tell me the computer wouldn't cockblock me.

The box he got it out of said "11/23"

The computer said "I'm sorry, Dave, but I can't let you do that. 11/24."

A manager came over. Oh yeah, you can't sell that now.

I was pissed.

"Like hell you cant. He said I could. The box said I could. I drove over. Who cares about the computer. Half of the world is already playing this game."

"ok. Well, this one is out. So sell it to him. But do NOT sell any more, do you hear me?!"

This game is awesome and all, but there is no way that any truly honest review will not skewer a ton about it.

Feenix
Mar 14, 2003
Sorry, guy.

Whilst I will readily admit that IGN's review is coming FAR too early to be given much weight (also, it's IGN.) I will say that one statement they made nearly mimics my exact thought last night.

Paraphrased: 'GT5 is a 10/10 simulator wrapped in a 5/10 game'

While I'll personally go as far as to say that 5/10 is a bit lower a sentiment than I would have expressed, I do get the general sensation of Leonardo Da Vinci painting and sperging over the Mona Lisa and then framing it in toilet paper cardboard and hanging it with dental floss.

Load times are seriously the worst thing I think I've experienced in gaming in a long time. Staring at a GT5 logo on a black screen for upwards of 60 seconds just to go from one menu to another is awful. And don't even think of loading the GT TV panel unless you have like 4 minutes to kill before you even want to see the screen populate. (Yes I installed.)

There's noticeable (but I won't go as far as to use the modifier 'heavily') screen tearing. Noticed most easily on the Kart tracks.

The bump sounds sound like someone is kicking an empty oil drum, or a fat kid is banging on the drums in band-camp.

Obviously, the whole Standard vs Premium thing is a sore point.

That said, even through all the frustration. Even through the fact that you can sit down to play some GT5, and due to its front-end sluggishness, an hour can pass and you've only been able to do 2 or 3 races. Even with ALL of that... once you get into a race it feels good.

I still recommend people buy this, but part of me kindof wants Kaz to answer for himself. Seriously, what theee gently caress?

[edit]

Yeah and the shadows suck. Also there's a ton of pop-in and flicker. And also cockpits are mysteriously dark. Also, I can't seem to get Head Tracking to work, but that may just be other things.

Yeah if you're one of the lucky people who doesn't notice screentearing then don't try to find out what it is, just enjoy the game because it really is one of those things you can't unsee.

I should go on to say that, so far, I only noticed it in the Kart Races, but I didn't get too far in A-Spec and maybe it just happens when faster movement is forcing the screen to do scroll more quickly.

It wasn't a deal killer. Just kinda shocking since I don't remember it in Prologue.

Confirmation

Accessing game data
Please do not switch off the system while the HDD access indicator is flashing.

OK
Except the HDD light isn't flashing, it won't let me select OK, and it's been 10 minutes. I have no idea what the gently caress is going on but I'm pissed off and bored now. I tried quitting the game and deleting the save which prompted me to download the patch again when I tried restarting, but nothing happens past the annoying "accessing game data" screen.

Then I read that some of you are having problems because of the network, so I unplugged the ethernet cable but no, still the same loving screen.

I think I might have hosed something up, but compared to the userfriendly Xbox 360 and Forza I'm not impressed so far.

Power off and on again. If it does it again, power off, and at the XMB go to Game Data and delete anything GT5 related. Then start anew.

Honestly, if you scrub EVERYTHING off your PS3 that is GT5 related, it should start anew. Unless your poo poo is really, REALLY perma-hosed. Like, data installed but not enough to register as data so you cannot delete it, etc etc...
