M-Audio Av 40 powered monitors - Amazing computer speakers.

Gore-Tex Shoes - Awesome for people that live where it snows.

And it's already been mentioned but I think it bears repeating - Netflix. $7.99 to stream all that you want without commercials. And now there a bunch of devices to get it on your T.V.

Although, none of them are listed as being able to play .avi's! Am I just being technologically retarded and missing something?

I have a Boxee and Revuue and if you are looking to stream files you own the Boxee is hella awesome (it streams avi and everything else). The Boxee has been pretty much universally panned by the review sites but I love the thing. It works amazingly on my nearly 1TB worth of television shows (it even parses file names and downloads content descriptions from IMDB). Supports 1080p no problem. Vudu coming next weekish, Netflix coming in the next month and Hulu plus later this year. The applications it has currently are pretty decent (Pandora, TED, Youtube, and some adults sites) anyway.
