A peek at his page shows a comment about "haters", so I'm assuming dude's been informed of his biter status.

I'm trying to imagine a scenario where he couldn't have known this was an original piece by another tattoist. The original drawing was done on the client's skin so the only reference photo had to have been of the already completed tattoo which should have set off the alarm bells of any reputable artist.

6,201 repeat posts of horrid, wretch-inducing tattoos

Anyway here behold some fine art brought to life upon the human form by the One True God, expressing His divine perfection through the hands of His most gifted ink-children...

The start of my resident evil / capcom sleeve. Nothing has ever mattered to me as much as my gaming, it sounds too cliché but it’s true. I’ve done it ever since I can remember, I wanted a tattoo that meant something to me and was a huge part of my life. This is the Umbrella Corporation Logo, for people that do not know. I will always give credit where credit is due, this was done by a great guy. Johny D Matthews. If you live in the UK, close to Yorkshire. You should defiantly view some of his work. His website follows;

I haven't checked out that last artist's site; he might do amazing work but a dorkass game tattoo is a dorkass game tattoo.

I made up all those numbers earlier, obviously.

I'm reminded of the lesson learned in episode 14. When you try to please everypony, you end up pleasing no pony.

Tattooing is weird in that, as the artist, you only have so much leeway in what you're doing, as you're essentially commissioned to put something someone else wants onto their skin.

If that guy's client came in and said "I'd like a tattoo of Delirium and her fish" and he tattooed her with Zee's design, then yeah, he's a piece of poo poo art thief.

If she came in, printout in hand and said "I want this on my arm" what's he going to do, say no? If he does she'll just go to another shop that will do it.

e: I suppose there's also the option of "no, but I'll design you something similar" but if the recipient is dead-set on that design, then that's that.

The very least the guy could do is at least say, "yo, that's not my design" or something.

I don't know. It seems like there's an unspoken integrity that tattooist are expected to uphold.

Vice did an article on the guy who did the Drake forehead tattoo... THE STORY BEHIND DRAKE'S BEST HEADLINE YET and it's clear from some of the backlash this dude received that a lot of people expected him to tell the girl who came in for this godawful tattoo to straight up gently caress off and go home.

If she went to some other shop to get it done then there's the expectation that that shop would also tell her to gently caress off and so on and so forth until she realized that maybe this stupid loving tattoo is terrible idea because nobody in their right mind would want to do it.

That's the kind of integrity that might also prevent tattooists from copying work by other artists in their profession.

As an artist, you say no. I'm not a tattoo artist but I'm an illustrator. If someone comes to me and says "copy this piece of art", I say no, because to do so would be unprofessional, bad taste and a potential breach of copyright. I'm not sure about the latter with tattoos or what protection (if any) a tattoo has when it's just on the skin, but the first two still stand: you don't do it because it's lovely. And when other people in your field get wind of it you would get a stinking reputation to go with it.

It's not an option to say no, you have to say no. If you're anything close to a respectable artist you won't copy someone else's work like that. If you don't have the courage to tell someone I won't tattoo that on you then you should not be trusted with the responsibility of permanently putting artwork onto someone. It's that simple.

That said, check this mess out

I don't know if those lines are supposed to be something (maybe it has an equation behind its design?) but regardless it looks horrendous. They did a fantastic job of making it a giant pain in the rear end to get a coverup. On top of that they added in that great single black line to mess up his forearm for what looks to me like a super amateur design choice to make it look more abstract and flow with their arm/fill the length of it. What a complete waste of skin.

At least whenever I'm having a terrible day I can take solace in the fact that i don't have a bunch of stupid lines tattood all over my arm.

Dude, ix-nay on the oice-vay.

I'm kind of hoping she came in with her own drawing of zee of zae's work and the tattooist had no clue that it was a not-great copy of another artist's work. The girl could have traced pieces of it and claimed she drew the whole thing.

When I was 18 or 19, I was looking through a tattoo artists portfolio and asked my artist if I could get the same tattoo as in the portfolio. He said, "No, but I can ask Carlos if he would put one on you like that." Yeah, he wouldn't even try to design something like it since it was another person's work. Not that I pushed for it or anything. Just that the tone of voice made it clear that he would not do so.

This.

You say no. It's absolutely appropriate to explain "no I can't do that exact tattoo. That was a custom design and it wouldn't be fair to the artist or the client to reproduce that piece. I can draw you something that's custom specifically for you instead, and use that piece as reference/inspiration however. What aspects about this tattoo made you like it?" and so forth. It's not hard of you have a brain and a conscience.

But this happens a lot. And it is stealing. Stealing from me and stealing from my client. It's a shame for many reasons. One being that how the hell do you advertise your work if you can't put things in your portfolio? I thought the watermark would be a hint but apparently I have to put huge block letters across my images that say "custom work by Kelly Doty, don't steal this tattoo dumbass"

This happens to so many artists that work hard and someone just comes along and copies it to make a quick buck. Classy.

Also thanks everyone.

Given that a photo of that tattoo is displayed prominently in a magazine this month, I can make a guess at what she showed the tattooist.

I kinda like this a lot. I think you would have to like the Drew Carey show a whole loving lot to justify getting a giant tattoo of Mimi's face, but I think for a face tattoo it looks nice, and I love the expression they went with. This may just be because I am biased in the sense that I find overweight ladies faces very visually appealing.

This is such a cluster gently caress on this man's chest. The red on the tribal thing look like it's supposed to make the edges look sharpened, but isn't in the right spots to actually do that(GIS says the logo doesn't actually include that part). And WHY would you pierce one nipple?
