I've just bought a CH Flightstick, Pro Pedals and a Pro throttle for a stupid amount of money. They're old (but brand new) but when they came out they were one of the best setups you could get. I was gonna go for the Thrustmastr cougar setup, but I remembered that they were really stiff and needed to be mounted on your desk. I just hope they get delivered here in one piece (Iraq bah)

Jiblet posted:Should have gone for a warthog no need to mount on a desk and nicely sensitive. I should have yes, but the price for that stick and throttle (plus pro pedals) and delivery would be close to $700! I like flightsims, but not that much...

I still think DID's EF2000+Tactcom had the best dynamic campaign ever. You could either pick from dozens of missions, or build you own. It whould display high priority targets and I'd simply load up my Typhoon with a few laser guided bombs, loadsa amraams and then fly around, kill stuff, land, rearm, take off and repeat. One mission would last hours but when I got back to the map I'd see the destruction I caused and if it made a difference. Take out a few airfields and the Russians would have less flights covering their ground forces, take out a bridge and their tanks would hold up, take out an early warning radar site and their CAP would be limited. The best part was crashing/dying. You weren't punished like all other games if you died or lost your plane, the impact was reflected in the overall war. If you failed a mission or got killed, you wouldnt have to restart or load from a previous save, you'd just have less planes in the campaign flying around. Falcon 4 was close, but it still revolved around a single pilot[you]. If you died then you'd have to restart/reload ...

So whats the consensus on DCS: A-10C? I'm downloading it now (sloooow connection) and waiting for my CH stick, throttle and pedals to arrive. I also have SF2 with the expansions, F4AF and FSX ready to go... flightsim orgy over the next few months!

Godamn it. It's taken three weeks, a stupid about of money and customs charges, and my CH bits have arrived ... only they sent the wrong stick. I ordered/paid a bloody fighterstick, but they sent the combatstick 568. I cant send them back either, they came from the States, via Bosnia to here in Iraq Now to get them configured in A-10, Jesus they're complicated.

I'm slowly getting to grips with DCS: A-10C, and man its a heavy sim. It took longer to work out all the different buttons on the stick (TMS forward short and TMS forward long is the same button, but one is pressed and the other is held ... and they do two totally different things omg). There's a huge sense of achievement when you've learned how to work the different aspects though, but I found that I dont have anywhere near enough time to find the target(s), get the laser/mav to lock on, get lined up and drop the bomb ... its all very frantic and its great! I'm enjoying it so far, and I havent touched the campaign yet, just going through the training[buggy] missions and free flight and messing around.

Yeah, I feel thats very cheaty though. Also, your wingman carries on as normal and the world still continues; its only your plane that's frozen so it loses some of the realism. Cheers for the patch link, I was wondering when it'd be coming out.
