I know this is just me gossiping, but apparently my boyfriend ran into a Nintendo rep at Gamestop today. So, naturally, he asked the rep about MH3G. The rep told him he'd like to say something but unfortunately since it's Capcom, he's not allowed to, where he might hint something at me if it were Nintendo. He did, however, tell him to wait until E3.

It's secondhand information, but goddammit, it's something maybe

With the impending announcement of new console hardware, I'm giving up all hope of a PS3 Monster Hunter.

3rd HD being such a rush job is such a disappointment.

I almost want to put Tri back in the Wii just to gently caress around online.

Maybe even start up a new character before Diablo 3 hits.

With every move Capcom has done recently, it makes me more and more sad that they hold the rights to Monster Hunter.

Oh yeah great I wanted the boss to charge back and forth 300 feet on the opposite side of the map. Cool thanks for blowing me up with your bombs that literally never hit anything but me when the boss leaps away. Ah thanks I really wanted you to redirect the boss so he leaps ahead of where I'm running and I have no chance of turning around that will probably work.

Seriously gently caress Felynes and gently caress whatever poo poo puzzle games star them.

Well, no. Whatever Capcom USA's rep is talking about probably isn't this. This was just Capcom Japan being "Oh hey we got some weird new poo poo next week in Famitsu check it out"

I always found it amusing that Capcom decided to take Monster Hunter - a game that thrives on stunning visuals, large monster variety, and ultra precise controls - and start to only make games on Nintendo systems, well known to be graphically inferior, low on storage space, and a little bit hit-or-miss on control.

It seems when Keiji Inafune left he took all the brains with him. It's like they're actively trying to piss off every fanbase they've ever managed to build up over the years.

That is not very true, as far as I know the 3DS one is pretty well received.

How big IS the western fanbase anyway? Nobody I knew had even heard of MH back home. I mean localization is a purely financial choice so surely they have crunched the numbers.

The Wii and 3DS versions have sold fairly well. Still not quite comparable to the PSP versions, but in the same ballpark. I'm simply saying for my part, the Nintendo spinoffs seem really dumbed down and not really worth it, so I really have no interest, and I think it would do much better on a system that's really specced for it. At the same time, I think they're counting on the poor graphics and low memory to cover the fact that they aren't spending as much on development as they would have to for a Sony system.

The Western fanbase is more "cult" than anything. It makes some pretty decent sales in the States, but nowhere near comparable to Japan. I would still call it worthwhile, but they don't seem to...

ThePhenomenalBaby

...There isn't anything dumbed down about Tri and the 3DS game though? After all, Tri was the first to apply the superior hitbox and weapon play that would become the norm, and 3G is basically a better version of all the PSP games? Just admit you want the game on an HD home console your argument would be more genuine.

What was dumbed down on Tri? Wasn't it the first time you could actually play monster hunter on a television? Also it was nice being able to play multiplayer, even with how atrocious friend codes or whatever are, without having to run some third party software. And the gameplay from what I played on the psp versions didn't seem like anything revolutionary in comparison to Tri, except some of them had different weapons.

And lets be honest, the PSV sales in Japan are currently abysmal. I'm not trying to turn this into nintendo vs sony, but that comment seems a little misguided.

I just want more monster hunter in US regardless, i'd love to play frontier but thats probably never happening.

Edit: And Tri also saved you from having to do the "claw" method on psp or whatever the hell that was.

I do really want it in HD since it would be gorgeous, but unless I'm mistaken aren't there fewer monsters in Tri than there were even in Unite? Am I crazy? I could have sworn I read that somewhere....

Game mechanics aren't the same as content. I'll admit I'm not speaking from having really studied it, though, and really have no idea of the content for Tri-G beyond it being an "improvement of Tri", so I took something of a guess there. I'll eat my words if I'm wrong.

You can't deny the Nintendo systems aren't as powerful as Sony. I'm not trying to start a fight either, I'm talking pure hardware.

And Monster Hunter was a system seller in Japan. Hardcore. It always cranked out some serious PSP sales any time a new one came out. Though I will admit from a sales standpoint, banking on "it will make the system sell" is not really as enticing as "there's already an install base"... even if the demographic is a little off.

No.

No I mean seriously you keep writing off the Nintendo games like they're an afterthought without actually having played any of them or realizing why you can't really separate content and gameplay for Monster Hunter. There's a reason why goons blew through MHP3 in a week as opposed to about a month for Tri, despite MHP3 having twice the amount of content of Tri on paper.

I'll give you a hint: MHP3 neutered the overall difficulty level from Tri, meaning most of the new monsters ended up being early-game content that went down quickly without a challenge. Plus the way that PSP game structured its quest system meant that players could blow through content super fast if they went in prepared. MHFU didn't fall to the same malaise mostly due to the fact that the monsters were so difficult you were forced to grind for min-maxed armor.

Meanwhile the latest 3DS game, MH3G, brings the intensity level closer to what it was in Tri while adding another difficulty bracket as well bringing back some of the features that went missing in MHP3 for who knows what reason. Oh, and the 3DS is getting the next numbered Monster Hunter game too. Seems like the Nintendo systems are now the flagship console to me.

I'm up to Guran Miraosu in Tri-G now and trust me it is a game that's completely worthy of having that G next to it's name. Almost every monster's moveset in G rank is changed in ways to change your approach (for example not having that pause after the Narga does it's tail swipe really upsets my hammer play) and it is challenging to solo. Really tons more content that I could write paragraphs about.

I was also pretty annoyed when it was announced for the 3DS because the decision made no sense and it seems like no one but Nintendo gained anything out of it but the game itself is great, I don't regret importing it at all. I really would love nothing more than to have a proper console game but with the way capcom is you can't hope for much more than what Tri-G has.

So there. Now I will start again. I wish I could have a Monster Hunter game that is in HD because I think it would be beautiful. I think it would work better on a system that has two thumbsticks. I would like a Monster Hunter on a Sony system because I'm an idiot fanboy, and also because I think there is more potential for better graphics. I will refrain from passing judgement on that which I have not experienced first-hand.

Now, let's hope they actually release something in the States. Something aside from Puzzle Fighter: Starring The Felynes. (Although I'm sure it's a perfectly nice game and will assume such until having played it myself.)
