Here's a short I made for A British Festival called Virgin shorts -

http://www.virginmediashorts.co.uk/film/2807/breaking

It's called 'Breaking', A quick 2 minute short done on the 5DmkII, it's getting a bit of love online and voting closes on 19th, so if you like it...please vote for us to win!

The website states 'Between now and July 19th (at midday), we'll be counting how many shares each film gets and the one that's shared the most in that week will hit the shortlist. Every time you "like" a film, tweet it (with #ShortsLucky13 AND the full name of the film) or 'share' it on the film's page, you'll be racking up points for that entry'

Hope you enjoy.

Nicely done, I liked the twist at the end. Virgin's video compression sucks balls, though.

Yeah I'm not sure why they compress it so much, I'm starting to wonder if it's the quality of our upload though.

And brokenmachine, really enjoy yours too! The ending was a good, very unexpected. What gear did you use?

Best of luck with the votes.

Not exactly a short, but I've put out a production teaser for my latest full lenght feature film, "They rest in the north". It's in-production right now, and with 12 days into the shoot, it's halfway through. The expected premiere of the movie is on October 2012, so the postprod is going to be quite a crunch.

Thanks! I filmed it on a Canon 5d Mark II. A friend works for a big name kit rental company so managed to score some prime lenses for free.

Out in Boston there is a Trailer Smackdown competition every year where a bunch of people are given a title and a selection of cliches to choose from. Then the teams make real trailers for these fake films. This year's name was Ten, and me and my friends cobbled something together and took second place. Was pretty exciting and I hope people find it interesting.

It's about a ninja who uses his training to get out of stereotypical racial situations. We just tried to put a funny spin on played out cliche jokes about stereotypes.

"A Drink With An Old Friend"
9 minutes

A man knocks on the door of a home, claiming to have been in a car crash. The homeowner allows him in to use the phone, but soon regrets his decision.

It was filmed on a 7D in six hours, and I'm really happy with how it turned out. I recklessly submitted it to Sundance this morning because $60 was burning a hole in my pocket.

Well loving done.

That was really good. Loved the opening and my only grief was that they weren't high-caliber actors that could truly do it justice. Nice twist at the end I wasn't sure what to expect

Lighting was good, sound was good, angles were solid. I wasn't a fan of how much sweat he had on the second shot or the almost luminescent blood but I saw past those

I'm with Lando2, I really liked it. My only complaint was the constant super-shallow dSLR depth of field and the dodgy focus that resulted from it, but for having done it in six hours, that's still pretty impressive.

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I had to take what I could get for actors, one of them is a meteorologist for the local news station, and the other is my uncle. Neither have any formal training. I was originally trying to get it done before a competition deadline so I was scrambling to figure out how to fill the roles, only for it to turn out 2 minutes over the acceptable length.

This was my first project using a DSLR, and I was shocked at how well it looked, despite the focus problems. I've been researching how to make digital video look like film since I got into filmmaking, but Canon had already done it. The accessibility and the ease of using the 7D far outweighs it's weaknesses in my opinion.

Which one? I'd go out on a limb and guess it is Oscar, the red-haired crazy guy who you might know from real life as a red-haired crazy guy.

That's a fun short you worked on! The dialogue on the pissed off a toothbrush seen was pretty accurate to how I handle stress. Visuals are great, most of the audio clean (I'm the audio guy for my group so I am never happy with audio), and the acting/script were both very strong. Fantastic work!

Thanks man!

It was my first legit attempt at a narrative piece, and my first hands on film class for that matter, although I've been working with the Mark II for a few years now. I DP'ed the piece, and really I had no part in the writing, and really no part in the direction unless the direction interfered with angles/equipment. If you could see how small the indoor set was you would laugh.

The ISO was a little too high in some parts to make it perfect, but overall it came out better than I thought it would when I saw the initial rough cut. Also I wish that shot of the over the shoulder text message could have been in focus and maybe someday I will bother to fix it.

As for sound, I think we definitely could have put mics on both actors in the bedroom, and even used foley for Charlie's footsteps/the door closing, as the sound pulls me out of the narrative a little. Unfortunately we only learned about some of these techniques once we were already in post.

I'll PM you about the guy I recognized.

These are funny, but the joke comes across in seconds. I think a shorter intro and credits would serve you a lot better. Something closer to Five Second Films perhaps. But yeah, the simplicity is very enjoyable and I hope you keep them up.

Yeah. I definitely see your point. The biggest thing we always wrestle with when we make stuff is whether it's just funny to us or if it's funny to the average viewer. The main reason we put the title screen in so many times and for so long is because we wanted to do a nice nod to all of the projects we watched in film school where the credits/titles lasted longer than the project itself. So while it's funny to us, I can see how it's frustrating to watch. I think we're going to shy away from that sort of humor from here on out.

Thanks for watching and for the feedback. And sorry for my super late response.

A friend of mine had a pretty silly concept for a parody of a superhero origin story around a year ago - we talked about it for a bit and decided to actually make "The Road Rager" happen. I'd always been interested in making shorts, but never really had the opportunity, so I had a ton of fun working on this. As a first project, I'm definitely happy with how it turned out even though the sound leaves a bit to be desired.

"The Road Rager": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8v2donQUZe4

During filming of the short, things snowballed into an additional project: a music video of a parody version of Creed's "With Arms Wide Open" based on the same characters. Ended up liking how this turned out more than the short itself.
