WHAT IS PIRATES OF THE BURNING SEA:

Pirates of the Burning Sea (POTBS or short) is a naval combat game with a player driven economy and a global Conquest system. As a player, you can make all the components for ships and equipment and participate in large Port Battles to take over enemy cities. Once one side achieves so many 'victory points' that side wins and the server is 'reset' (all ports go back to original owner and the Conquest system starts over again).

Ship combat is about the most fun you can have in a game. Using the wind is important and firing big salvos of cannons at enemies is incredibly satisfying. Avatar combat is pretty bad. Character and Ship customization is pretty hilarious due to all the crazy outfits and options.

CLASSES:

Each nation is broken down into three different classes listed below. Pirates have their own two unique classes, but we won't be talking about that here. Each national class has a pretty clear cut job in battle, although Privateers are probably the most versatile.

Naval Officer - Heavy Hitter, Big Defense

The Naval Officers typically sail the gigantic Ships of the Line. These are fast, but not manuverable. They turn like a dump truck, but they also unload cannons like one. Warships are typically faster in a straight line than a Scout ship, but are incredibly slowed by turning and do not accelerate fast. Naval Officer skills favor this type of play. Lots of damage, lots of defense and some speed.

Most people choose this class. Be this class if you want to do a lot of damage and tank.

Privateer - Tackler

Privateers specialize in maneuverability and disabling. They are also essential for open world PVP. Privateers are the only Nation Class able to initiate battles in world PVP areas as explained below. Privateers can be hit hard, be maneuverable or be fast. They can't do all at the same time, however.

This is the second most popular class. Be this class if you want to be the linchpin of a group, setting up battles, but not being able to take a whole lot of damage or put out a lot of damage.

Free Trader - Buff Bot

Free Traders get cycling buffs that are great to have in a group. They also get a tax break and open-sea speed increases. They typically sail Merchant-class vessels which have large holds to carry junk around. They are fairly weak in one-on-one, but are always great to have in a group.

Do NOT be this class just because it's the least played. It can be very boring sitting at the back handing out buffs. Pick this class if the Economy side really interests you and you don't mind being extremely fragile at low levels.

SWASHBUCKLING:

Avatar combat is pretty god awful. I'm not going to spend a lot of time on it. The basic mechanics are: you have guard, health and initiative. You have to wear down someone's guard before you can hit their health. Guard can recharge, slowly in combat, faster out of combat. You use initiative to do special attacks. This recharges at a moderate rate. Health is your health.

There are four different 'styles' of avatar combat:

Fencing - Don't do this.

Florentine - Don't do this.

Dirty Fighting - Do this.

Brawling - Until you can do this.

That's all the time I'm going to waste with that.

PVP:

After hitting the max level of 50, open-world PVP and Port Battles are the meat of the game, along with a little bit of economy which will be discussed below.

PVP can happen one of three (and a half) ways: Open world "red zones", Port Battles and Skirmishes. You can also run around with your pvp flag in enabled and fight whoever wants to click you.

Red zones (circles around ports) start when one faction generates enough unrest to cause international tension at a certain port. At this point a small red circle appears around the port and Pirates and Privateers of level 15+ may engage players of other nations. Naval Officers and Freetraders MAY NOT initiate combat in these zones but may be engaged.

If unrest continues to grow then the Pirate PVP circle will approximately double in size and the original circle is now a full on Nation PVP zone where any class of any nation may attack any other nation.

Further unrest causes a Port Battle to be scheduled. A Port Battle is where one faction tries to wrest control from the current owner through a 24v24 battle. Port Battles are scheduled from 7:00PM to 5:00AM GMT on Antigua. The winner of the Port Battle takes the Port. If the Pirates win then the Port enters a "Raided" state for 4 days. In order to be able to partake in a Port Battle, you have to be one of the top 24 unrest-contributors over the pre-Port Battle period.

Finally, you can do skirmishes which mean nothing, you get nothing from them, but you don't lose anything either.

Here's a description with pictures:

Third World Reggin posted:

IN GAME PVP

This is the world.

Each red circle is a pvp area. To create those, there needs to be unrest. Unrest is caused either subtlety through offering the people of the town luxury goods that they probably don't have access to, or more overtly, but attacking ships while in the area of that port.

You create a small light red circle by doing this. This area pirates can attack nationals and nationals can attack pirates. Privateers after level 15 can act like pirates.

Keep fighting, and the circle gets larger, and then a deeper circle appears. Here Nationals can also attack other Nationals.

This is a list that will show you where people are trying to fight and create an area, or where areas exist currently and the status of the fight. Once the fighting gets large enough, it creates a port battle. I am pretty sure that the people that create the most unrest there will be picked for the large fight to determine that ports fate. With port ownwership in the game, and the economy system, it matters who owns what ports.

Here is the overall war effort. After you win, you probably get stuff or something, but you win, so I guess that is cool.

And here is the skirmish menu. If you don't want to lose your ship then you want to do this. You can set up what ever fights you want, no down side.

ECONOMY:

The Economy in POTBS is totally player-driven. You want a ship? Buy one from someone who's made it. You want a certain fitting? Buy one from someone on the Auction House. Everyone can do the economy side; each account gets at least 2 'structure slots' (10 of you are a premium member, or more if you buy them (don't do this, pay for one month and get them for the rest of your life)). You can make Oak Blocks, mine Iron Ore, or weave hemp and smoke weed.

Obviously no one can make everything by themselves. That's where the Society comes in. We'll all work together as one big communist circle jerk and hopefully be able to hand out free ships and poo poo to each other at some point.

You gain no xp from crafting and it is done pretty similar to what you would do in the real world. One structure harvests oak logs so another can turn them into blocks, which when combined with some nails and other crap becomes a sail mast. Read this guide for more information: http://www.burningsea.com/page/guide/economy

Finally, have these from Third World Reggin, because I am lazy.

Third World Reggin posted:

More on crafting.

Freetraders are needed for those advanced buildings, and they need to be level 30. The advanced buildings reduce the labour by 80%. This should be time if I am reading it right.

Anyone can build ships, but freetraders at 45 get a building that combines the forge, lumber mill, and textile mill in a single building. Downside you don't store as much time. Positive, you have a limit on how many slots you can have per account and this saves you two.

Freetraders can also build a master shipyard (large) that does the whole 80% labour thing.

Now as for the spanish, the best place we can get metal and limestone is at Sisal and Campeche New Spain on the tip of the yucatan peninsula. We don't have much iron as it is and the needed limestone is one town over.

If you want to build fittings to ships then this is the best place to get the iron and oak. This will let you build most of the fittings, a few other require fir or teak which is not there.

FREE-TO-PLAY AND CASH SHOP:

Ok, so I've yakked for a while about boats. This game is a free download, all you have to have is a valid SOE account. Here is where you sign up: http://www.burningsea.com/play/. Be forewarned, it is a 7 gig download, so do it overnight or be prepared to browse the forums for a little while longer. While you're waiting, go read the Sailing 101 link.

Obviously the renewed interest in the game has come from it moving to a free-to-play model. As a free account there are several limitations, but all these are rectified by paying for the game once, and only once. There are few bonuses to continuing to pay (10% bonus xp and loot), but paying for it once opens up a lot of stuff that you'd otherwise have to purchase via the cash shop (don't do this). There is a quick FAQ and comparison chart about free-to-play here. If you have EVER paid for this game, be it at launch or sometime between now and launch, you automatically have a 'Premium Account' that has all the perks you'd ever want to buy from the cash shop.

Now that POTBS is free-to-play there is of course a cash shop. So far, nothing has been added that seems too over-powered. There are books that increase xp by 20% for 2 hours and a thing that makes you hard to find on the open sea for two minutes, but nothing horribly overpowered. There are other consumables and ships, but nothing that can't be acquire in-game through normal, free means. There are also 'account upgrades' as talked about above, but just drop $15 for one month while you level up and then never pay for it again and enjoy all the benifits.

GOONS! ON BOATS!

So all this sounds awesome right? Goons have an in-game society set up and ready to accept members. Our Society is called Estoy en un Chalupa (I'm on a boat). We started not more than a week ago and we already have 50 members with about 10 online during peak usage. We want to double, even triple that. The more goons we have on boats shooting pubbies the better. Post in this thread with your name and one of the Officers will shoot you an invite. You do not have to be logged in to receive the invite.

Goons currently reside on Antigua as Spanish. Why Spanish you ask? Pirates and Brits are full of trollable pubbie filth and are extremely high pop, French tend to be lowest pop and they're French. This is Spain with a modest pop middle ground. We will work with Spain guilds insofar as it serves our purpose of creating havoc and drinking pubbie tears.

We currently use Team Speak and highly encourage everyone who's on and playing to join and hang out. TR0LL was nice enough to let us use Camping the Stairs server for the time being.

We currently do not have a separate forum. Right now there is no real reason to, but if we reach critical mass that may be something we have to do. For now check the next post, which I'll try to keep updated with economy and military objectives/orders.

IF YOU ARE A RETURNING PLAYER - go here and see if you can transfer any of your existing Spanish characters to Antigua. If you have other nationalities, do not transfer as you will be locked out until the next reset.

Recruitment Standards:

Don't be a pubbie and don't post like you're in FYAD.

This is important!!
After you make a character go here:
https://spreadsheets1.google.com/vi...MSEdXYkhyMGc6MQ

And fill that out. If you mess up or need to change something or want to look at what other people have put into it, go here:

https://spreadsheets1.google.com/cc...=CO334IgC#gid=0

LEVELING

The best way to level is to join up with Goons of all levels and go kill high level NPC's in the open sea. Commonly referred to as 'ratting' (this is terrible, don't do this), it's a great way to gain xp and also chill with Goons. This game is really god awful by yourself, so play with Goons.

We need someone who is good at photoshop to design us Society sails and a flag. You can look up requirements at http://www.burningsea.com under 'User Content'. PM me here or in game (Enrique d'Inglesias) if you want to help.

PRODUCTION ORDERS

Check this spreadsheet of what people are making and what they need:
https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc...=CO334IgC#gid=3

Do your best to fill in any gaps. Ask in IRC or TS for help/suggestions.

If you need a deed for a certain structure, let me know. I'm pretty certain I can make them all.

Or Society Bank is up, contact myself, Queso, Tokin/Mani or Peor to give stuff to the bank. It has a warehouse in Sisal and Havana, so haul your products to one of these ports. If you are making ship components, move them to Havana as that is where we will build ships.

MILITARY ORDERS

Level to 50.

Did numbers on crafting.

An iron mine and limestone quarry can only power one forge to make only ingots. It can not make anything else but ingots or you will have excess raw materials.

A salt peter mine and a sulfur mine will power three powder mills.

An advanced forge reduces labor by 80% so they can actually do nails and iron ingots. This requires you be a free trader level 20 or so.

GOON NEWBIE GUIDE, READ THIS IF YOU WANT TO KNOW IMPORTANT STUFF

Okay, I've created my dude and done the tutorial and I am confused:

First things first, minimise the game and go to the threads op and stick your forum username and characters name in the spreadsheet to help avoid confusion.

Your going to need exp and in the starting town the missions you can do will easily fill that goal up to level 10. Talk to the NPC female Naval Officer you have been directed to she should just be down the pier infront of you.

All NPCs with exclamation marks offer missions, question marked NPCs have to be talked to during missions. Take everything that is green and towards or under your level and do them solo.

Bringing up your mission log tells you the difficulty in colours, the level of said mission and what kind of mission it is (RP, Solo only or Group) as well as the location. Clicking said mission on open sea marks the port it is in.

Missions after level 10 are worth doing as they give out decent exp and plenty of gold, the starter missions reward you with free rum, patch and mast repair kits and weaponry. Following your RP mission quest line is worth it as you get a free level 25 ship towards the end.

It is also reccomended to do your Privateer/Naval Officer/Free Trader class missions too as they reward you with needed passive skills as well as optional titles and new clothing/gear.

If you think you are ready and know enough it is time to fleet with us.

Wait, explain how fighting works again?

It is simple with sea combat, reduce the side armour down to one side or concentrate on the front/backs of the ship until your damaging the circle which is the hull armour while watching your own health. Cripple sails with chain/barshot and use Langridge to kill the enemy sailors on the ship before slowing down the speed and getting close to grapple and fight.

Here is the example of the damage on the ship bars. Notice the one on the right is what your enemies ships should look like. Red is the number of the crew, blue represents your sails and masts condition and the yellow at the end is the amount of undamaged cannons. The long yellow bar under that is the enemy morale which can be effected by ship damage, types of shot and debuffs.

With npc ground combat keep all your bars up while whitting the blue bars of the enemy down so you can hurt them, use any defensive stances and buffs if you have them and concentrate on fighting the enemy captain to win and hope you have enough surviving crew to keep his guys busy.

If you die, you'll revive with a smelling salt a few seconds later.

What is ratting or fleeting/how do I join/where do I go?

Fleeting is joining your fellow goons on the open seas and taking on minor fleets of high level NPCs and it well worth doing. The leader of said fleet as well as several other stronger goons will tank and take on one ship at a time. All you have to do is sail behind not get in the way of their cannons sights and leech the experince and loot. A majority of said loot can be gained by dicing all or dicing single items and hoping you get the highest number.

Be aware a majority of upgrades and weapons/gear will be too high level for you to be used and you might as well just junk them. Remember to dice or dice all after every kill.

Where do you goons hang out? I'm lonely:

Our chosen port of home is Sisal in New Spain just down the coast from the starter port, our Free Traders use Havanas Auction House to get what little they need. We enjoy fleeting around here or up at the Spanish Capital San Juan which is in the Antilles. Our Societies Jew Banks are stationed in Havana and Sisal for your convinience.

It also strongly advised you dust off your mic and get on our TeamSpeak channel it makes everything much easier if we can all speak to you.

I'm on the open seas, will I be ganked by all these ships?

Not unless you have your PVP flag turned on (don't do this) or you have negative reaction with one of the NPC factions nearby which is something you won't need to worry about at the moment.

I've sailed all this way to San Juan, where are you guyz?!?

We're in battle if we're not on the mini map as light blue triangles, ask for directions and find a crossed sword icon on it select sail towards it and click the cannon icon to gain access. If closed ask in group chat or society chat for the leader to pop flares.

Whats my professions role in sea battles again?

Naval Officers are the tanks who can take and do damage medium and close range with guns, Privateers debuff the enemy and use their speed to disable crew/sails and board and Free Traders buff their allies and use speed to try and shoot the front and back of the ship.

My clothes are too plain and my ship is boring, how do I change them both?

Simple my friend, press C on land and click on customise character to unlock the faboulous 18th century wardrobe to goon up. In the open seas it can be done the same way if you select your ship tab with the menu open. Here is the example of what you will see with the ship version.

We've got no real dress code so go nuts, as for ships our only request is make your sails pink and paint it any combination of eye searing colours.

Sweet jesus so many boats, what ones do I use!?

Here, use this list and have a good read or browse of the boats you can access at your level. Ask around in chat and TS for other goon opinions and pick one that suits your style of sailing and combat. If you need money for a deed feel free to ask for a withdrawel from our Goon Bank. You can have three boats max at a time with a F2P account.

Wait, Jew Bank? what is that?:

Two dummy NPCs several trusted officers of the society control which contain all the free stuff you will need to set up your sea fairing quests or business. The Goon Bank deals in the following: Deeds of all kind, free commendations, money, manufactured and raw goons depending on supply. It also houses all the books you might need for advanced trading but find the book you want DO NOT ASK IN CHAT OR TS.

Please tell me what all this crap on my person is:

In the game there are several different types of loot you can be rewarded with either from completing quests, winning battles and fights or just by purchasing from the Auction House.

Weaponry and Armour

You can use this to buff your characters defence/offence/guard/health etc for npc ground fighting only three can be slotted at a time and you can only use them if you have the required level. Common and rare types can be found/bought.

Both can be sold to your Swashbuckling Trainer for a decent amount of gold.

Ammunition

You can get this either from goons, buying or random loot from sinking a ship in a sea battle. Ammo comes in different types with different roles like disarming ship sails, making holes in the sides of the boats or killing off enemy crew. It can be sold and bought at the Junk Merchant in the Auction house.

Consumables

These are one off buff items that can help you in either land or sea battle. Hull patches of different types can be used to repair damaged hulls or rum can be used to heal up your crew numbers. These can be popped off any time in the battle to save your rear end but come with a cool down rate. There are several types of gun powder that can also be used to increase your guns accuracy or damage too. The most basic of these can be bought from the Junk Vendor in the Auction Houses.

Different types of booze play the same role in ground battles along with bandages that heal you and smelling salts that revive you.

Ship Upgrades

Your ship has three general slots and eight specialised slots (sails, cannons and hull) that can be filled with different types of upgrades that can tweak your ships stats in certain areas (sailing speed, camoflage, gunnery speed and hull strength for example) and come in small, medium, large and huge flavours. General buffs can be pulled right out and replaced with another general upgrade but once a upgrade has been installed in the specialised slots it can only be destroyed to be taken out. Goons can make any of these if you request and they can also be bought from the Auction Houses or looted.

Raw and Manufactured Goods as well as Books

Used and produced by crafting these are very useful and should be dumped into the Goon Banks either in Havana or Sisal when you can.

Just request for the Goon Bank in the Society Chat and wait.

Commendations

There are several types, the most common and least important is the Commendation for Courage you get from capturing abandoned derelicts during and after sea battles. You can drop these off in the goon bank or turn them in at San Juan in your professions HQ to a named NPC with a chest icon over his head.

Junk

These can be either sold with all Junk Merchants or traded in with certain NPCs with chests over their heads over the entire carribean for booze that will help you fight slightly better in ground combat. Do not bother the Goon Bank with these.

All of these can be stored in your ships hull, docked ships hulls or your warehouse.

So where are the cool places in these towns worth checking?

The Magistrates and Taverns will usually offer missions Auction Houses are places you can buy things from players if you can't get anything from the Jew Bank.

Offices of Marque, Admirality and Company will offer missions too but eventually you will be restriced to the one related to your profession when you reputation begins to rise.

Important NPCs are the Broadsheet Peddler who sorts missions by your level, the Dock Master who looks after and helps you upgrade your boats, the Town Crier who directs you towards certain npcs wanting things done missions wise and the trainers of your profession and fighting class.

Oh god I am lost in the city help!

Relax, bring up your mini map and expand it pulling at the window edge then look for the glowing icons. Circled exclamation marks mean a NPC building has opened up for access into a certain mission.

I want to PVP! want to PVP now!

We're not going to stop you but at level 1 to 10 at least you aren't going to have any skills to take on the weakest player pirates and in my experince with PVP going alone will get you ganked by a fleeting team of big boy pubbies.

As a whole we are concentrating on a majority of us getting to level 50 and get the crafting up and running so we can attempt pubbie stomping without worrying about running out of boats.

Oh god help I'm under attack!

Okay, what you've done is sailed into a PVP zone. PVP and PVP Light zones are denoted on the mini map in the open seas as a heavy and light shade of red circle. Inside these circles you are fair game for players. Try and sail out of them if you stray in and avoid them while sailing on the open ocean. The penalty for being sunk in PVP is the loss of a durability point with your ship as well as losing all items marked with an exclamation mark in your hold.

If you do lose any ship that isn't your starter one don't panic for two reasons. One you've got insurance from buying the deed and two the Goon Bank will spot you the money free of charge to buy a new boat.

Light PVP zones only Pirates can attack you. If your ship is fast enough just turn towards the wind and blitz through these things overwise just check ahead with the mini map before minimising to read the forums.

Oh god I'm in the middle of nowhere!

You unpacked a ship deed there didn't you? take note that when this is done you will leave the ship and its cargo in said port where you got out your new boat and now that is sunk you've been transported to your old boat in bumblefuck. Avoid this by unpacking your deeds in Havana/Sisal/San Juan.

Shut up pubbies shut up! How do I do this? Also whats with all of these *** can I turn them off?

To customise you chatbox and turn off the torrent of useless crap from nation simply click on the speech bubble in the left corner and click away!

To disable the annoying profanity filter press escape and go to preferences and simply turn it off.

OH GOD I'M RUNNING OUT OF PLACES FOR MY SKILLS

Relax, press escape go to the preferences and look for the tool bar options there. Remember to unlock your UI so you can drag all the stuff to places you'd rather have them too.

Hay I want free stuff how can I get free stuff

Ask in chat or in TS if you just want something simple like cannon balls, books or materiels for crafting if you want something made like a boat or upgrade you will have to use our spreadsheet of wonders and fill out what you want. The goons in charge of making it will work their magic and you'll have it in a day or two.

How do you take screenshots and what is the best emote?

Press P and the answer to that other one is simply /toot.

Oh god some random pubbie declared me a traitor!

Relax, unless your doing anything like duping or hacking that is actually game breakingly illegal you'll be fine. Pubbies are just scared of our manly dongs and big beards.

Okay, I think I am ready to begin my crafting empire

Get on TS and ask about for this, then when you've been told what the Society needs do the Economy mission given to you by the starter mission NPC at the starting port and read everything carefully. If you build any of the stuff they ask you don't worry you can delete it all afterwards except the Warehouse.

Hey, can I bring an outsider into the group?

This is a controversial thing, It depends first if Enrique is cool with it and second if they are willing to join the forums and become a goon. If they do so they will be under a probationary period and they have to behave on TS and Society chat.

Okay, tapped out of missions in the starter town now what?

Hug the coast of New Spain and explore all the towns, ports and colonies on it look for every NPC with an exclamation mark over their heads. When you dock into port the local Town Crier will direct you to any contacts with some minor exp and gold rewards.

I want more ship/economic slots and drat how do I get pretty sails and flags?

Just sub your account once and then cancel your subscription. You are now premium and aren't being hobbled by f2p anymore.

How I get rat?

Look for a man singing about a Wren, do all his missions. They are easy to do and don't take long then access your character sheet with C and drag him from your inventory. You now have your own portable black death device.

How I get Peg Leg?

Get to level 14 or over.
Sail to Capa de Vela by pretty much hugging the coast of Mexico and South America.
Talk to this lady Osana Capetillo at the back of the town.
Use her BOAT which she borrows you to do enough damage to the enemy Captains and then click on him when he stops.
Fight.
Assemble raft and fight pissingly tough croc.
Get and play with the desperation raft for a few minutes and find your ship.

And voila, one peg leg. Some goons may love it others won't as you sadly cannot customise it, only comes in one flavour and the running animation hasn't changed. If you did the mission and changed your mind talk to Osana again do Picking Up The Pieces and then customise your character appearince and scroll to the top of the boot selection list for your fake real leg back.

Does our Society have sails/flag?

Yes it does, use your account to log into the official website try and find it and vote for it to get it in game.

I played this before F2P, how do I get my non Spanish character into Spain?

Wait for a faction to win the war and when the treaty stage happens quickly switch sides and join us.

Feel free to tweak and make easier to read and add what I missed, I think I've covered what I can.

I'm a hairy glue baby

As soon as they get the drat character transfers up and running we will be in great shape. Another goon and I had basically everything set up on some level 45 characters for boat production, and assuming it's still around we can be up and running again pretty quick. All in theory of course.

I may join after finals are complete (in about a week), I remember trying this during beta only to be a little dissapointed. Has a lot changed since its earliest days?

A lot has changed. Also the RP mission lets you find the love of your life, and you can be gay.

Teamspeak is a must for playing this it can get a little dreary at times on your own but its brilliant fun with goons.

Ooh, I might just have to get in on this. I last played PotBS in January, though, so I have forgotten everything there is to know about the game. Also, my character is French. I guess these two hindrances are reason a plenty to start a new character of superior Spaniard stock.

Spurd.

Is anyone in the guild buying the raw crafting stuff? I have around 800 canvas & 300 tar I need to get rid of to actually be able to afford to make more and buy a new combat ship

edit: Further on ships, what's a good combat ship for a 22 free trader?

I only have a mediator cutter at the moment. Cargo space is no consideration as I have an Atlas bark already for transporting.

I have a bit of cash and I'll try buying what I can from new goons to help them out. But currently I only have about 70K.

Currently the society only has what cash the members have. As people turn in stuff to the society, we can sell any extra and turn that back around into helping members out with production costs.

Doing missions, while boring, is a great way to make cash. Open sea NPCing nets you some pretty good cash as well, especially after you sell all of your loot. I easily made ~200k doubloons this weekend with all the open sea stuff we did. This was before I bought my 68k ship and rigs

Message me in game though and I'll see what I can do. The society will most likely not be paying people for the goods they produce any time soon. We're going hardcore Lenin communism for a while until we get a better handle on the economy. That said we will do everything we can to help you get started and maintain your production cycles as well as provide people with (initially) outfittings and in the near future, ships.

Talked to Jesus lately? More bars in more churches, synagogues, mosques and all other places of worship, guaranteed.

I don't play for very long, so it might take me a while to level up, but I'm thinking of rerolling as a Naval Officer. I'm a privateer, but it doesn't work well with how I play.

I'll probably be making it tomorrow when I get home from work, so I'll start taking name suggestions now.

19th Century War is often harder on the aggressor than it is on the defender however, I also know that it doesn't necessarily turn you into a sad, depressed sack of Republican tears for the rest of your life.

Sadly due to the fact the devs are hardcore about the history and not offending anyone the usual goon stock of cocks, bees and forum memes are out of the question. However I propose somebody whack up a flag using this as our symbol:

And if anyone has talent enough a stylised could be whacked into some sort of Coat of Arms for the sail.

Another thing we could use, more hull patches. These are consumables and are easy to make. There are not many low level ones on the market for new players.

They are assembled in a lumber mill and require leather and common wood to make. Common wood is a logging camp and the leather either comes from a slaughter house to a tannery or just a tannery. Sisal is a good place for this.

Just as a heads up, I can produce gunpowder consumables (more damage, higher accuracy, faster reloads) for goons. Or if you bring me a single iron ingot I can produce 1000 of the ammo of your preference.

In-game name is Vladimir Sokolov. Just float me a message and I'll try to send some your way.

Isn't Sisal where the Economic Starter Quest from the starting port takes you? should be pretty easy to set up when you start the game.

Oh no

If a person were to consider being a Freetrader and mostly just make stuff, would this game be playable if you could only be at the computer for, say, 15 minutes at a time every few hours? Or would it require more "concentration" to get things done?

Third World Reggin
May 19, 2008

The most time intensive thing in crafting is just waiting. You don't have to be at the computer. If you are gone for 24 hours, each store you have has 24 hours stored up. The second most time intensive thing is traveling. Some times it takes 5 minutes to travel from port to port. Freetraders get a bonus to movement on the open ocean.

It would be possible, but leveling would be hard on you. But then again, you could pick a target on the open ocean, hit it, and leave. Or just do missions.

Ok, thanks.

Also for info, you apparently still have to download the whole 7.1 Gb even if you have the install disks. That's kind of messed up.

Like Reggin said, hauling junk is the most time consuming part of the economy. Actually making items is done in literally two clicks. Of course if you make stuff based just on what resources are in Havana you'd have to do no hauling what-so-ever.
