So I am beginning to study for the CPA and wanted to know if anyone else is testing this summer. I just graduated and need to wait for my audited transcript but I'm hoping to be able to sit in the first week of July. Is this too ambitious? I am from CT if that affects anything. Also, I am using FAR and am mid-way through chapter 4 of the FAR review, so far, nothing too bad.

just got my official test date. Taking FAR on July 3rd. 10am. I feel like what ive studied so far is no where near enough and that i will fail miserably.

things i will never understand: why the cpa tests non-gaap items. If its not GAAP, then it cant make its way into audited financial statements. Therefore, why do I need to know it if I will never see it? Also, how to account for landfills. This does not warrant being tested. ever.

You never know, you might decide to leave public accounting someday and go to a company that issues OCBOA statements, so non-GAAP items may come in handy eventually.

As for landfill accounting, that was a pretty big when it was brought up in my Govt/NFP class. Even my professor was all like "this is something you will never ever ever ever use, but I have to tell you about anyway"

I guess that's true about the OCBOA stuff. It's just frustrating when I'm going through the review guide and get things wrong that aren't GAAP. And yeah, the landfill section was completely out of no where. I'm going through the material nicely learning about governmental accounting and then wham, landfills.

im down to my last couple days of review. im going through every single becker review mc without my notes and writing down things i get wrong. so far im averaging above 80% with a few bad areas that ill go back over and review later. I really hope i pass FAR, i dont want to do this again.

Does the Becker material include a clone of the calculator applet that the CBT-E program provides? I found that FAR required quite a bit more calculator usage than the other sections, and CBT-E's calculator is an annoying piece of poo poo. If you have access to an emulated version of it, practice with it a bit and get used to how it behaves.

Does it look like the windows calculator with a "tape" spot on the side? If so, yes, it has one and it appears to be really annoying to use.

Edit: For anyone that has taken the exams already: I just took a practice exam in Becker and for the task based simulations, they marked my answer wrong because of the order I had the journal entries. For instance, instead of debiting cash first, and equipment second, I debited equipment first and cash second. Does the actual exam mark these wrong as well? I thought it didn't matter the order of the debits and credits for the most part.

anyone have solid advice for learning the tax portion of REG? I only took one class in federal income taxes and don't remember much. I took a contract law class last semester so I'm pretty good on the business law parts but im clueless on tax.

I hate REG more than anything. I think i actually found FAR easier to comprehend than some of the tax stuff on REG.
