The Shimian also has vesa mounts, but if you want to actually detach the whole stand instead of just the bottom part of it you need to open up the casing I think. Or just be lazy like me and have a little nub sticking down from your mounted screen.

I was recently recommended a VA panel monitor, to be more specific a AMVA+ panel, monitor is the IIyama ProLite XB2483HSU-B1: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Iiyama-Prolite-XB2483HSU-B1-LCD-Monitor/dp/B00FABG4R2 As far as i what i could find on VA-monitors, other than the info in the OP, what they seem to suffer most from is ghosting, and as i've said before i'm primarily getting a monitor for gaming, watching movies and browsing, etc. I want a good general, all-purpose monitor. I've seen some people say that the latest AMVA+ tech fixes most of the older gen's (VA's) problems, but i'm unsure whether that's true or not. Again my main other choice is the DELL U2414H. I am also taking other suggestions but if i can find every possible model here.

The big benefit of AMVA is the very high contrast ratios, i.e. deeper blacks and brighter colors.

How do goons feel about Ultrawides/21:9? I'm really tempted to get one as the aspect ratio is sexy and I'm running an old nVidia 760, but they're pretty damned expensive.

I love my LG 34um95. I'm eventually going to upgrade to one with G-Sync. I love this aspect ratio. If its something you can afford, then I'd definitely consider it. Fake Edit: I'd only consider ones that have 3440x1440 resolution. The ones with 1080 vertical resolution are too limited by the amount of vertical space to be really useful in my opinion.

I love the idea of a big sexy curved 34" 1440p 21:9 monitor and will get one the moment I have money for one that has a decent gloss finish instead of the blurry rainbowing awful matte finishes they love to plaster on everything these days. Because obviously every computer monitor like that is going into a fluorescent-lit corporate office for primarily email and spreadsheet work, definitely not cozily lit home entertainment setups that benefit from vivid colors, and where the ambient lighting and glare can be easily controlled by the user. Well that's my rant, hope you enjoyed it thank you.

I have two. For pure all out gaming I'd probably go with some big 4k. For everything else, the width of the ultrawide is amazing, and the height of a 40" 4k is pretty superfluous. Smaller than that and the 4k starts making scaling necessary, which means that you're giving up real estate as well as messing with inconsistent windows scaling. I think it's the best non-gaming res and a real good gaming res. Edit: A 3440x1440 is a wider 2560x1440, a 2560x1080 is a shorter one. Little reason to go for the latter, it has neither the extra width nor the really good pixel density, as well as being short enough to be awkward at times. xthetenth fucked around with this message at 17:35 on Aug 5, 2015 |

Also, I'd say a curve is probably worth up to 20% more than a flat. It's very nice, although a good stand is nice to have with it because it is more sensitive to positioning. You can also mix with flat panels without much problem, I have a curved 34" with a flat 27" next to it and it's not a big deal. That may change if you want to stack two ultrawides or something goofy. I have a 34um95 and it's very nice but the stand and curve on my u3415w is fantastic. xthetenth fucked around with this message at 17:45 on Aug 5, 2015 |

Monitor bros why does every monitor I own, from ancient crts to relatively modern tn panels, tint yellow/red after a few years of use. Google was genuinely not helpful because it's mostly about new monitors with defective yellow tints or ancient crts. They go from great color quality to tinted over the course of a few years, and often they take a drastic dive over the course of instantly or a few days. Also adjusting RGB values doesn't really help that much. It makes it less red/yellow, but it still looks kind of weird compared to before no matter how much I mess with it. The most recent monitor to do it was an asus monitor I picked up a while ago now. Before that it was a relatively high end samsung monitor, and before that it was a dell monitor. The dell and samsung monitors also eventually had a capacitor go and wouldn't turn back on. Exciting. Could it be due to the quality of electricity in my ancient home? Is it just a thing that happens? Is it due to dust building up and causing something to overheat? edit: vv Makes sense, I just dropped red & green down by 5 in the color config and it looks fairly normal if not a little cool but also a little washed out and dim. I'm loving the poo poo out the AOC 34" ultrawide since I got it a few weeks back, even before I've actually done much gaming on it (because I gotta got a GTX 980Ti to do that on this size screen). It's flat however, so I would say that a curve would be nice just to bring the ends of the screen in closer if you're using it at a desk. Having it curved bumps up the price up a bit, though.

edit: nevermind I should have just looked a few posts up ^^^ Anyone use an ultrawide monitor (2560x1080)? Should I just go with a regular 250x1440 instead? I'm used to 1920x1200 at work so 1080 might feel cramped. Main uses would be web surfing, coding, etc. I have a 13" rMBP but might connect it to my Dell Precision workstation as well. I never game outside of some emulators or some retro stuff. Bob Morales fucked around with this message at 17:41 on Aug 6, 2015 |

I think I've seen that some of these can be treated as dual monitors - would it be possible to run a game 'fullscreen' and have some on reserve on the side?

I want to buy a monitor arm for my new desk because my new desk will not be facing a wall and I don't want to risk my monitor falling off or something. What do I need to know? Are all monitor arms universal? Am I going to risk buying one that has screw holes in the wrong places? Ergotron looks really great, but I wasn't looking to spend 170+ CAD on this. This is my monitor: http://www.lg.com/uk/monitors/lg-29UM65-P Also, I think I misplaced the metal plate that came with the monitor -- I assuming it was used for mounting but I had no plans to mount it when I got the monitor... do- ... do I need that?

Looks like I'm going to be getting this: http://www.knoll.com/product/sapper-single-monitor-arm There's a guy in my area selling the table clamp version for $30. But my monitor is 75x75 and that arm looks to be 100x100... time to find an adapter, I guess. Edit: Found this guy on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-200X200mm-Bracket-Universal-Adapter/dp/B001VRN21A/ref=pd_sim_23_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=07FCCX2PC8CDV5K790XM And it ships to Canada!
