GTAIV is an extremely CPU bound game so your choice of GPU doesn't matter much. The 460 you've selected is more than adequate for high settings in that game provided you have the CPU to back it up. The monitor has no impact on the scenario. Asus makes pretty cheap 24"+ monitors so I doubt you can go any lower without buying a no-name budget brand.

tl;dr - looks fine.

I'm not sure what happened with the recent U2311H sale but I'm having the same problem, estimated ship date is 4/4/2011 and it'll be going on over a month at that point. They used to be so much better at this stuff, I got my U2410 in 3 days.

You can get a 32" 1080p TV easily for that same money these days. Just get a no-name or a used Samsung/LG 32".

Thanks for the recommendations, guys. I'm still not sure about what to do though. Maybe I should just wait until they make LCD computer monitors that can do local dimming and actually turn off the LEDs behind the pixels that are supposed to be dark.

LEDs are over marketed. The form factor is nice but the energy savings in a monitor will be minimal, it's not going to magically have CRT black levels and they often have the same flashlighting problems regular LCDs do. Get a good panel before you worry about how it's lit. The Dell Ultrasharp U2311H is fine for gaming, I play Counter-Strike, TF2 and more modern stuff all the time on it. I'm not a "pro gamer" but I do alright. It looks beautiful to boot, far better than any TN panel I've owned. I can't say I've ever noticed ghosting with it and the only time I've even seen it is in reviews where the camera's shutter speed is set to maximum.

If 120hz is a sticking point then your only real option is the Asus you've already considered.

Does anybody have any thoughts on IPS vs TN (with LED backlight) just for stuff like gaming, movies & coding? I'm not sure if it's worth it to get better color reproduction (that I might not even really take advantage of) in exchange for the slight loss in response time/potentially higher price. I was mostly looking at the U2311H for IPS & the Dell P2411H and Samsung BX2440X for TN.

I went from TN panels to a U2311H and I've had no problems in any online gaming or etc. I play a lot of fast paced FPS games but I'm not a pro-gamer or something. Either way, I can't really see a difference in ghosting, response or etc. Black actually being somewhat black instead of a dark grey is really nice for darker games too.

Also someone was mentioning the stands on the U2211H/U2311H being kind of average but when you compare them to the wobbly pieces of poo poo you find on most TN panel monitors they are heaven.

That Acer sounds great but why couldn't they just make it black? I don't want a bright orange bezel for my monitor though, looks absolutely hideous and will be totally out of place with the rest of the room. Anyone that says who cares, go live with a woman sometime and that's your answer.

If I get one I will have to strip it down and paint the damned bezel. Orange seriously, loving "gamer gear".

Lots of early reviews mentioning severe backlight bleeding with the XB270HU, I think I will wait until they sort that out.

How does GSync work? Like what settings would I need to use with games or does it matter? Will I have to manually configure something depending on the game I'm playing or can I just set it to 120hz and call it a day?

Do you have to set anything or is it just always on regardless of your ingame settings for vsync and all that poo poo? Do you just leave vsync off and then toggle the rest of your detail poo poo as you desire?

Just for the record, is this why my NUC sometimes comes out of S3 sleep at 1024x768 on Windows 8.1? I have it hooked up to my receiver/HDTV for emulation stuff. Its infuriating because its entirely remote/controller driven but once in awhile the desktop ends up hosed up which requires me to hook up a KB/M and fix it all. I'll have to look into command line scripting to swap resolutions with eventghost or something.

The 1060 will waffle from 30-60ish FPS at 1440p in most games but you will need to actively play with detail toggles and turn stuff down. Even in Witcher 3 its problematic in many areas like cities. GSync helps with tearing but you'll still notice when the framerate dips to the 20s no matter what. If you want a stable 60fps at 1440p you need to go with a 1070.

I decided to play the lottery and bought a crossover Korean monitor that has an AUO 1440p ips 144hz panel for about $450. The black levels are great, very minimal bleed, but I had a stuck pixel near the middle of the screen. It's mostly gone away though, and I can barely notice it. I am a bit disappointed that >60 hz is barely noticable though. I guess I fell for the hype...

Load up any FPS or action game, if you can't tell the difference between 60 and 144 then count yourself lucky and keep saving money. Just playing BF or CS:GO for a few minutes at 144hz vs 60 is crazy to me.

Has anyone gone from dual monitors to a single ultrawide? I switched to dual monitors at home awhile ago and it's pretty good but takes up a ton of space on my desk that I would love to reclaim. Gaming off-center is a bit weird too, I turn my chair but I've never quite adjusted.

I've been considering a 3440x1440 monitor for more horizontal space, something like an Acer Nitro XV340CK or whatever. I do have some concerns though, I play a lot of older games and I'm worried they won't handle 21:9 well. The other concern is lovely titles with bad borderless window implementations (Pathfinder: Kingmaker for example) where the game minimizes if it loses focus. I guess in the latter scenario this happens on dual monitors anyway.

I don't really code or do anything crazy at home anymore, its just nice having a second monitor to browse while you game sometimes.

I don't think I could fit an ultrawide and a 27" secondary screen unless I got a new desk. That's an option though so I'll consider that too. Thanks everyone for weighing in. I'm in Canada so we don't have the easy Husky option from Amazon, I'll have to find something else that fits my space.
