Athlon II X3 435 2.9GHz CPU, 8GB of RAM, and a GeForce 460.

Immediate: 39

ST/DEF Scene: 26
MT/DEF Scene: 38

ST/DEF Chunk: 30
MT/DEF Chunk: 32

Not as impressive as my processor is far weaker, but I still got a decent boost on MT/DEF Scene.

Very much so, their customer service is legendarily excellent as well. Can't go wrong with Logitech.

I got my G400 today and I like it so far because it doesn't have that polished finish on the top of the mouse like my MX518 did. The top of the Logitech box was cut with a very sharp knife so it was very easy to remove the mouse from its box so I wonder if newegg or a previous customer did that. The mouse looks completely unused and I looked at it closely so did newegg send me a used mouse that was sent back?

It's probably from when they opened the box when they received their shipment of mice from the manufacturer. If it works fine, I wouldn't worry about it.

Logitech somewhat recently came out with the G400, meant to be a replacement for their now-discontinued MX518, widely touted as the best mouse ever. The G500 is nice, but if you don't need the extra features it has over the G400, save yourself a couple bucks and go for the G400.

They're both primarily interactive stories, not really games. ME1 has mediocre combat and zero balance, ME2 is more balanced but the combat is the modern standard cover shooter atrocity against game design.

You should definitely play ME1 first because there are a ton of little carryovers that will greatly enhance your enjoyment. Overall, the most important thing to know is to always be an rear end in a top hat, because unlike almost every other game Mass Effect doesn't punish you for being a dick and it's by far the more enjoyable of the two paths.

The side quests in ME1 are generally good, but don't waste your time on collection quests. Aside from the one on the citadel, you get nothing for doing them, and even the citadel one just gives you a tiny bit of largely irrelevant backstory.

Here's what I think is how to convince people how to be Renegade in each game:

ME1: You get to hear Shepard utter the phrase "big stupid jellyfish."

ME2: The most interesting kills you get to do are Renegade interrupts.

Dead Space 1's mouse aiming in general is just a little floaty, but you learn to compensate/adjust for it rather quickly. The sequel's aiming is much tighter and more responsive.

Although if anyone else has any opinions on the G400 G500 I'm still open to hearing. Or anything else in that price range I guess. (40 to 55) I'm probably going to place the order in a few hours.

I've gone through like four MX518's from pretty much the moment they came out until two months ago when my latest one crapped out on me, and Logitech (as they always do because they're awesome) replaced it with a G400.

The G400 is literally just a newer MX518, I highly recommend it. You'll feel right at home.

But yeah, I imagine it'll be great for people who don't actually like messing with graphics settings.

When Morrowind first came out, I played that game for like two hundred hours and I was lucky to get 20FPS under the best of circumstances. For a long time, it made me really tolerant of unstable and choppy framerates.

Of course now that I'm not a teenager with no income and am gainfully employed, I can afford a computer that is substantially more powerful than a toaster. If my FPS so much as hitches once, I'm ready to kill someone.

Given that people are always talking about how much prettier a good PC port is than a console game, I wouldn't think that voluntarily making the game look lovely in motion would be bog-standard, but there it is. I just can't play games with v-sync turned off because it makes them look like rear end.

I believe most people use triple buffering alongside v-sync, as it basically eliminates the downsides of using v-sync on its own.

I had that exact same message late last year; even when surfin' around on the desktop, it'd go black for a second, Aero would crash and restart, and Windows would pop up and tell me "nvidia driver kernel crashed and restarted." Here's what it could be in terms of severity/cost to fix:

  • Corrupted drivers. Uninstall your current graphics drivers and use Driver Sweeper to make sure it's completely gone.
  • Bad stick of RAM. This is what it ended up being for me. I checked my RAM several times with memtest and I never got an error, but sure enough when I was at my wit's end, I yanked out one stick and my computer's been as stable as a table since. Run memtest, and even if you don't get back any errors, try running your computer with different stick combos until you've tried them all/the issue disappears.
  • Dying graphics card. If that's the case, you'll just have to replace the thing or possibly send it in for an RMA.
  • Dying PCI slot on the motherboard. If you have another PCI slot, try plugging in your graphics card there. If not, replace/RMA the board.
  • Insufficient/dying power supply. SH/SC recommends that your PSU is single-rail V12, as multi-rail V6+V6 might not be enough to properly power your computer.

Even despite all of this, it might not be the problem. There's two threads worth reading on the Geforce forums that talk about this issue:

https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/535346/geforce-drivers/constant-timeout-detection-and-recovery-fix-warning/
https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/389688/geforce-drivers/nvidia-statement-on-tdr-errors-display-driver-nvlddmkm-stopped-/

Good luck, I hope this helps.

Since the merger, I've owned an Eclipse II and a Cyborg v.5 and both were of excellent build quality. The only reason I don't use them anymore was because my friend gave me his Logitech G710+ :getin:

For function? Not really. But I think the DS4 is a more comfortable fit, the triggers feel better, and the whole thing seems higher quality. The pad is nice to have for emulating a mouse in (the decidedly rare) case you might need to use the mouse to adjust an emulator setting and are too lazy to use your actual mouse.

The G400s is the newest revision and is part of their "gaming" line of accessories. The color doesn't look as bad in person.
