iastudent posted:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7tNLlvr320 The swansong of Wiiware has been officially dated. Apparently a US date will be announced at E3. Knowing Nicalis, an EU launch might happen sometime late 2012. The saddest thing is that there's almost no chance that Nigoro will break even on the amount of time and effort they put in on the La-Mulana remake. I hope they don't end up bankrupt. The only other big Wiiware title - Retro City Rampage - was apparently jerked around by Nintendo so bad that the developer bailed and has moved to XBLA. Untrue, it's still coming to WiiWare. Microsoft did eventually pay for timed exclusivity but that was already after the dev had bitten off way more than he could chew and delayed the game a bunch of times, a la Super Meat Boy. Who knows when it'll ever be done. Also, there's another big WiiWare title worth watching - MotoHeroz! It's from the Trials HD dudes and is basically Trials HD mixed with Mario Kart mixed with Sonic, or something. Four-player local multiplayer, online leaderboards (including friends boards without Friend Codes), replay/ghost sharing and free daily DLC. Wish they'd picked a better name, but whatever. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBHkhmh5OK8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqL_ynSy6J8

For various stupid reasons I don't have a wiimote sensor thing at the moment. I want to play an old gamecube game, but the GC controller won't do poo poo at the wii main menu. Is this normal? Do you have to use the Wii controller to select it first or is something else wrong?

You could always help yourself with some candles or other infrared emitting light sources, since that's all the Wiimote uses to determine cursor position.

I'm gonna take this post to tell/remind people to play Pikmin 2. I know it's a Gamecube game, but you all have Wiis, so you can play it, and if you're anywhere that isn't the US, you can play it with Wii controls. Go play it. You will thank me.

Miyamoto better show Pikmin 3 at E3 or I'm gonna be pissed. He's been teasing that poo poo for years now.

I dunno if teasing is the right word, because that implies that we don't know if it exists or not. By all accounts, it's being worked on, and they just started ramping up the work right after last year's E3. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised (or disappointed) if they reveal it as a Cafe launch title. Just think: Pikmin in HD. Full Co-op mode, up to 200 Pikmin on screen at once (100 per person, of course), 4 player online multipikmining, the possibilities are endless.

Then North America can leapfrog the New Play Control entirely and get the Pikmin Trilogy HD in a couple years. No? gently caress. Okay, how about Mario Galaxy Trilogy HD?

Maybe 25 years down the line we'll get lovely ports of all the Pikmin titles.

Yeah, Nintendo has sent me repeat messages like that before. I think I recall getting a second DSi XL one months after it launched.

Just bought Red Steel 2 new for $15 at a Blockbuster clearance sale. I never played the first game, but I heard it stinks. I was curious about the motion controls in this one, though, and I figured $15 was a safe gamble. I probably won't be playing it for another couple of months, but what's the overall consensus on this game? Good/bad/meh?

Actually there were a couple of things... the Enix boardgame/RPG thing Itagaki Street is coming over (as Fortune Street), and there's some more info on Rhythm Heaven and Kirby (four-player c-op with Kirby/Dedede/Meta Knight/Waddle Dee!)

You can use a CC on the Wii Menu as long as you moved the analog sticks before pointing the Wiimote at the screen.

PaletteSwappedNinja posted:Actually there were a couple of things... the Enix boardgame/RPG thing Itagaki Street is coming over (as Fortune Street)... It's about time. The original Itadaki Street came out on Famicom in '91. It's a board game in the vein of Monopoly, but deeper and way more fun. It's been out on other formats since then, including a DS outing with Mario and Dragon Quest characters, and a PS2 version with DQ and FF characters. Enix USA wanted to localize the PS ItaSuto 3, but Enix Japan wasn't all that keen unless some sucker translator'd work for dirt-cheap like he'd already done for the PS Torneko just because he felt duty-bound to bring a good game over. But when Enix USA went to Sony USA for approval, they shot EUS down saying the game had no chance of selling, and that was that. I think Torneko, the first Magic Dungeon (which begot Shiren the Wanderer) title localized sold like 20,000 copies.

So Nintendo didn't say anything at all about release dates or even confirmed Xenoblade and The Last Story releases. It's so nice that Nintendo cares about those of us who plays RPGs. Hoping for some tidbit or something later on during the show.

I played some of the announced Wii games today: Kirby Wii is a typical Kirby game. You get all of his classic moves plus some new ones that incorporate motion controls. It's definitely not as cute as Epic Yarn but it's solid. There are some new power ups that are pretty massive and can kill entire screens full of enemies or bust up the environment (giant trees/mountains). For example one dude you can swallow gives Kirby a giant sword ability that can cut through everything on screen and another gives him the ability to call up a giant flaming dragon. There is co-op but it wasn't set up for that yet and the name will probably change. Skyward Sword is looking good with the Motion Plus controls. It's very smooth and the dungeon I played looks great. The controls are different from Twilight Princess. Firing the bow and arrow will take a bit to get used to but it's a cool feature. The demo was pretty short and there wasn't much else to see. I'm still looking forward to it and getting my hands on that gold motion plus controller

Pikmin 3 has been moved from the Wii to the Wii U. This is kind of upsetting for me, since I'm not sold on the Wii U yet, but the idea of Pikmin in HD is really exciting.

Some of the tech demos used the controller as a sort of window to magnify parts of the TV screen. That would be pretty neat for Pikmin.

Looks like Mario Party 9 is confirmed and nobody either noticed or mentioned it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tv6PfwvEtjc It looks pretty decent compared to what I've seen of MP8, but this just got announced so it's too early to tell if this will redeem the Mario Party series or not. At least it is widescreen.

I just had a really loving weird error while playing Twilight Princess. The "communication with Wii Remote has been suspended" error came up for no discernible reason, and I pressed A to reestablish connection or whatever, and then suddenly all the Wii remote's buttons weren't working. The buttons and stick on the Nunchuk were still responding (I could run around as Link and do Nunchuk stuff) and the pointer still moved around on screen, but A, B, D pad, +, -, Home, 1 and 2 all did nothing. It's happened twice now, each time I've had to take out the batteries to restart the remote. Has anyone come across this, or know how to fix it?

If they're not supplying the nominal voltage or even just unable to handle the increased current draw when a button's depressed, it's entirely possible for it to fail in unexpected ways. I design and test electronic equipment professionally, you'd be surprised how badly a transistor can behave when you're giving it 200 mV less than expected. I'm still interested in why you're unwilling to do a simple loving experiment like "use different batteries". Do these batteries have significant sentimental value? How attached are you to these batteries? Would it be reasonable to move them into a protective case while functional batteries are used day-to-day?
