Howard killed it on Letterman, too bad we don't get that kind of energy on the show.

To be fair, it was the same stories he tells on the show just with more energy.

So was there a History of Howard Stern this year? Usually they have some sort of big special for this time of year don't they?

Same here... listening for the first time in forever. The Sirius web app seems like a huge improvement, with several shows on demand and a lot of "clips" which I assume are recent good bits.

And is that the History of Howard completely on demand? drat...

I googled some article that said...

"Mr. Stern’s current contract, which does not include a video component, has been estimated at $80 million a year for production costs and the salaries of Mr. Stern and his staff."

Ahhh. I have a hard time believing the staff and production costs are more than $20m. Howard is getting at least $50m of that deal, so $445k an episode. Still a sweet deal.

I would think that Fred and Robin combined probably have a $20 million/year salary.

There is more money to be made by selling the rights to Sirius for streaming after he retires rather than as a CD. Sirius could start Howard 102 and do just musical guests and performances if they wanted.

How often does Sternthology have repeats? I've heard complaints elsewhere about the show airing the "same stuff", but I haven't been listening for that long.

Still on my free 3 months from T-Mobile. I'm enjoying it so far, and having the app is loving amazing. Going from my phone to my computer is pretty seamless, and all the On Demand content that I haven't heard before it nice. Starting up the live show on my phone at the beginning when I leave for work, then skipping all commercials is such a huge difference from last time I had Sirius.

I think it's a mix of not hearing interviews with the person before, and every question asked is new. Vs someone you know and probably heard the same questions.

Like I'm sure Pete Davidson covered the 9/11 stuff previously, but I never heard it before, so it was interesting to hear for the first time

I think that's only for music and sports channels, Howard is an extra charge, and then there's yet another charge to listen to beyond your car's stereo. I try not to think about it, and just accept that its probably a good deal if I ever did the math on how often I'm listening.

$16/mo is pretty steep. The $5/mo they have going on right now is doable... I've just heard that it's a nightmare to cancel.

I guess on a related note...

When did they start doing the "This Week On Howard: Top Noine Moments" video on the App?

Memet and Benjy are fantastic because they're the only two who seem to hold true to the channel's original "No More Bullshit" mandate and aren't afraid to go against the rest of the kiss asses, headed up by Brent and Gary. The increasingly and sadly rare times when we get to see some truth on the show are a breath of fresh air and a reminder of the way the show used to be, and it seems like it only happens when it's Benjy or Memet instigating it. Benjy in particular seems to take advantage of his exceedingly infrequent in-studio appearances to go against the grain and even outright trolling at times (the most recent example being the shot at Howard's teeth which I think had the exact intended results).

While the Memet stuff was good for what it was, I wouldn't want that all the time.... like it just seems like the guy is an idiot that is easily triggered.

He would bring up some point that felt like he was speaking the truth ("I've been begging to be in on the morning meeting!") and then when someone calls him out on it and asked who said he couldn't be there, he moved onto a new topic and rinse and repeat.

He's not speaking the truth, he is just paranoid about how everyone is out to get him.

And how can they poo poo on Richard and Benjy for not recording his good in the lottery line, but then Memet is claiming to be sitting on tons of good ideas that he is not sharing, for some reason. And then his idea about pointing out that the staff was too PC wasn't what made the bit great, it was Memet's reaction to it. I think Gary, or whoever it was, was right when they said that Memet doesn't realize what makes him good on the show. It's not his ideas, it's how he is so easily triggered

This reminds me of a guy I went to recording arts school with. He had a knack for audio, but he was lazy and sloppy with his work. It was a technical college and the course was 21 months, straight through (with a week break every 3 months, when semesters ended). It was the LAST semester, and he just stopped coming to class halfway through it, which causes him to fail those classes. This wasn't a cheap school, either (I'm still paying the student loan off :negative:), and he got ALMOST ALL THE WAY, but gave up, and now doesn't have a diploma, can't claim that he graduated, can't get any sort of reference from anyone there, and still has just as much debt from it as I do.

Weird thing was, his younger brother did the same thing about a year beforehand. Like... what the gently caress, people?! :psyduck:

I had a friend that dropped out of college to move to LA with his friends when they graduated early. The dude is doing much better than anyone I know, and has been a producer on several TV shows... to each their own.

34 here. I remember listening to him on my morning drive to high school, but I would be lucky to listen to something without commercials. I don't now how people listen to regularly, I'm never around a radio that long. I was a huge fan of the E! show when I discovered it in high school, but remember not having access to the On Demand show for various reasons (parents cable didn't have it, no option at college dorm room).

I already had Sirius for the switch, but remember dropping it because I was never in my car to really enjoy the show. Then I think in 2008 I moved to Chicago and was just downloading the shows to listen on my iPod on the way to my job while riding the train.

I know people say the show is crap these days, but I am actually able to listen to the live show in its entirety every single day on delay, plus listen to Sternthology. I would have killed for this tech in 2004

I know they are off. But usually the Best Of shows show up in the Sternthology or Howard Stern Show categories On Demand shortly after they air. Don't know if they added them to some new category that my App is failing to show (sometimes it fails to show ANY On Demand shows for certain channels).

But they are not technically "Sternthology"

Edit: For example, right now this show up when I click the context menu to access On Demand (what's up with that first choice?)

But clicking on the on demand link shows this

to answer my own question... it appears that they are uploading the Best Of segments are individual clips in the audio clips section, and then dating them based on when they first aired. So you can't just go back and listen to the Best Of of the day.

2TB of data is a bit insane for something that I, honestly, would probably browse one day and go "that's cool" and then never really sit down and watch.

Plus... what does a 2TB external cost, $50? That's kind of a big risk to put out there to some stranger on the internet.

Even as a torrent, I have a 1TB bandwidth limit, and it would take me probably about 4 months to download it all.

Yeah, from today. Dude got on the phone by asking about the speaker scene from Private Parts and threw in the sybian question near the end.

quote:

Howard took a call from a guy who said he has been listening for over 30 years and he loves them. He told Howard where he used to drive and listen. Howard was trying to rush him so he could move on. The caller said he has seen Private Parts a few times. He said he had a scene where the girl was straddled over the speaker and he did the shifting of gears with his mouth. He asked if he really did that. Howard said yes he did. He said he did it in Washington DC. He said the woman came. Robin said that's right. Howard said Fred remembers that too. He said they did it a few times. The caller asked what happened to the Sybian. Howard said the last woman broke it. He asked how many times you can do the same thing. He said they really did that speaker thing. He said he did a loop where it kept going. Robin said he just kept going when he was a young man. Howard said he can't go on like that now.
