A whole organic free range chicken and a 100% grass fad chuck roast thing to put in the slow cooker, now tell me what to do with them. Bought salsa, tomatoes, peppers, carrots, cilantro, a sweet potato, brussels sprouts, zucchini squash, broccoli, also spinach and avocadoes. Have onion and garlic. Chicken: roast it w/ herbs and butter; maybe serve it with a side of zucchini + broccoli, garlic, tomato, herbs.. whatever you want. :d Leftover chicken: Make fajita vegetables (peppers/onions), pico de gallo, and sliced avocados over a bed of spinach for a tasty salad. Chuck roast: Slow cooker time. I've kind of wanted to try a cayenne/coffee rub on a roast, but almost always just end up just cooking it traditionally with garlic, tomatoes, and onions. Could be really interesting to make a beef and sweet potato stew. Toss the carrots in towards the end so they don't get super mushy. http://annasrecipebox.com/2012/01/2...oot-vegetables/ ![]() edit: a pic for the new page ![]() Frown Town fucked around with this message at Mar 4, 2012 around 00:53 |

Whoa you can roast a whole chicken in it on low all day, totally planning on doing that tuesday probably!! so dinner will be ready post deadlifting ![]() Didn't eat anything additional at party, just board gamed it up, drank cherry coke zeros. yes. awesome. great day. good job me! Tomorrow I plan on running in the morning then having organic turkey bacon/free range eggs for bfast then maybe getting foot tattoos touched up.

Noooo don't roast the chicken on low all day, that's definitely a "couple hours in the oven at 350" type of cooking application. At least, as far as I know. I am pretty sure it'd be bad to leave it in there at 200F or whatever for several hours though? Slow cook the hell outta that beef, though. Mmm.

I found lots of recipes by googling for roasting a whole chicken in a slow cooker that said it works great Anyway it's too hot out to run right now for a me who gets heat stroke easily and i was gonna run 4 hilly sunny shadeless miles. It's 80 now gonna be 90, not a cloud in the sky, and windy, and I can't drink water before or during running without cramps and nausea. Maybe I'll try a run again in the evening. I should've just ran when I got up at 8 am but I was groggy, 9:30 am was too late

I use epicurious.com and goonswithspoons.com (or the crockpot thread) for recipes because I know 99% of them are legit delicious. I usually cut up half an onion, a couple carrots, some peppers and throw it in the bottom of my crockpot. Put the chicken on top with a cup or two of broth and cook on low for 8 hours. Or stuff the chicken full of herbs and lemons, cover it in pepper and cook it without any liquid in there. I used to baste it with melted butter, then cover it in pepper and stuff it full of lemons/herbs and roast it in the oven, but i havent done that for a while.

Oh if you do it in the crock pot it'll probably be okay! I thought you were going to stick it in your oven for like 8 hours at 200 degrees and try to roast it that way, which would probably not be fine. Oven-roasted chicken is pretty delicious though, if you wanna go that route.

Oh okay, phew~ Anybody think I should test it while I'm home all day though, to make sure I don't start an electric fire? I've never used a slow cooker, but I assume it's usually safe to leave it at home ~8 hrs a day while everybody's at work? Especially on low. I'm feelin kinda okay about my appearance today here's a pic spam ![]() ![]() ![]() Yes my skin is translucent even with a tan. The entire point of a slow cooker is to cook food while you're not there. Its perfectly safe.

I like looking through recipes on http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/ because she has recipes for seriously everything. Added bonus that they're gluten free. Some favorites in our house: Pork roast slow cooked in beer and Korean style shredded beef tacos that we eat salad style with broccoli slaw. I am jealous of how awesome you're doing and thinking I should start up my log again. I've been so lazy since I let it die from work stress.

It's neat, although I probably won't continue using it at least not every day, cuz i already log on dailyburn which has all my favorites all my added foods, and 2 years of food and weight history on it. It also doesn't have as many foods added/listed, like I can't find 'half a roasted chicken without skin' on it. Speaking of, put a 3 lb organic free range chicken in the crock pot this morning with spice rub, carrots and onion. Looked so healthy. Hope 8 hours is a good amount of time on low, like many googling recipes tell me, it should be done by 3pm then kept warm through dinner time. I couldn't find the probe that came with it so couldn't use the temp probe setting like I planned, so hopefully it won't be raw in the middle!!!! ps don't let anybody tell you organic/free range meats taste the same/are the same quality as factory farmed grain fed battery cage poo poo. they are not. They're always infinitely more moist, flavorful, plump, etc. Buy if you can afford. I'm fairly sure it's not just placebo. Weighed 143.8 this morning. My stomach's been real bloated and saggy lately, even tho I feel really muscular and I've been keeping carbs low lately and not cheating, feeling water-weighty and still ~3-4 lbs up from weeks ago, I know I didn't eat 14,000 calories on my binge day so I didn't gain 4 real lbs. e: I realized I set cronometer to -0.5 lbs/week no wonder it gave me a 1700 calorie allowance. Reset to -1lb/week, now it's saying 1400something a day. good enough, i'll probably get between 1400-1700 daily and see what happens. I really doubt it's muscle, it's hard to put on a lb of muscle much less as a girl. Anyway I'm sure all the weights in my stomach right now, I'm bleeding profusely for some reason and cramps. I know folks here are often saying women don't really gain muscle weight, but that has not been my experience in swimming and water polo. My teammates and I would often maintain weight, even as we lost buckets of fat during training. It's anecdotal, obviously, but I just wanted to put that out there.
