Thermos H Christ posted:It's not specific enough? Most "shirts" are not something you'd want to wear in grappling competition because it would get pulled over your face and/or used to choke you. I gather that rashguards are specifically designed to minimize this. Lots of people wear t-shirts in no-gi grappling competitions. It's explicitly against the rules to grab them or use them to do a choke or whatever. It's a bit of a personal preference thing I think -- a t-shirt provides a bit more friction than a rash guard, which can be bad if you're trying to pull out of an armbar or something, but useful if you're on someone's back since it'll give you a bit of extra traction.

Pretty sure Dana's disdain for Mazzagatti stems from the first Lesnar/Mir fight where he docked Lesnar a point for punching Mir in the back of the head a bunch, which allowed Mir to recover and eventually submit him. There was some question over whether Mazzagatti had given Brock any warnings before he elected to stop the action and deduct a point.

1st AD posted:Chute Box no longer exists because a lot of fighters like Anderson Silva thought sparring hard was stupid. It lives on in spirit at Kings MMA, where Chute Boxe trainer Rafael Cordeiro trains Shogun, Wandy, and Werdum (other guys like Munoz and Mayhem also train there). Wasn't Rudimar Fedrigo the head trainer or was he more of a manager-type dude? I wonder what he's up to these days. Anyways if anyone hasn't watched the Chute Boxe black belt exam video then I highly recommend it, especially if you enjoy seeing Werdum be a prick to some dude.

It's funny in hindsight just how quickly Sylvia became absolutely loathed. Like at the point when he won the title against Arlovski the only stinker fight he'd had in the UFC (pun intended) was the one against Assuerio Silva, and (I think) he was generally regarded as a pretty exciting fighter with a penchant for knocking guys out. It only took *two* bad fights (the 3rd AA one and then the one against Monson) for people to totally turn on him. Meanwhile GSP is still fairly popular even though he's on a four-fight streak now of grinding out fairly cautious decisions. I think it goes to show that a lot of the Sylvia backlash was due to his personality and probably physique as well.
