Holy poo poo that was painful. The fast-forward bit seemed entirely warranted. Also, I'm honestly curious, but why did you watch "Las Vegas Bloodbath"?

On a related note, Phelous finally reviewed "Resident Evil: Afterlife". Just be warned that it starts with a four-minute sketch before getting into the actual review. Truth be told, the sketch is kind of funny, especially if you remember the convoluted puzzles from the first game. At the end of the review he shoots a copy of the DVD with an actual shotgun.

A sketch placed at one side of the review where it can be easily avoided by those that aren't interested in them, which flows into the review itself rather than disrupting it? If one must use sketches in a review, this is how it needs to be done.

Pretty much every title card artist for the site does this to some extent. Linkara is actually notable in that he lost a fair bit of weight in the last year or so and pretty much looks like his title cards, now.

Except that picture looks almost nothing like him. Except maybe the hair, and even then Tubby Bond's hair actually looks nice. I can understand this if the guy was just kind of chubby, but he's loving huge.

And then you've got AVGN's title cards, which almost always make him look uglier than he actually is.

They want to stop, but Linkara just looks like he's having so much fun!

Really, though, the reason you see so many skits is because deep down a lot of these internet critics are aspiring filmmakers. They're working in a medium with no hard and fast rules so a lot of them take the space to experiment a little.

Ultimately, I have a hard time blaming them because I am an aspiring filmmaker myself. I could say that I'm above it, but I know in my heart that if I had an internet review show going, about 10-15 episodes in I'd probably be doing the exact same loving thing.

Skits aren't objectively bad. Red Letter Media generally is able to pull them off because they're loving hilarious and don't destroy the flow of the review either.

It also helps that RLM's skits tend to last 15-45 seconds, not be 5 minutes long with a bunch of dumb continuity between reviews.

Case in point: When RLM was doing the Revenge of the Sith review, they realized the skit at the end was going to ruin it, so they just made a short film instead!

I don't know about the Channel Awesome guys though. I think Spoony just out and out said it that the skits were getting to the point where they weren't funny and were so confusing to the point where its just dumb. I completely forgot until he mentioned it that its impossible to even keep track of the continuity in his skits unless you watch other shows. I just love it that when someone acknowledges it that the skits are derailing and actually says that he will change it the immediate reaction is to criticize the person for the skits in the first place.
