I also can't believe I missed the irony of Katy Perry doing a song called 'Firework', which he pointed out what a bad idea that was for her. Personally I hate Firework more just because I hear it CONSTANTLY. Not sure why, as I don't even listen to pop radio. It just seems to be on a lot in malls and stores I guess.

Really, though, the reason you see so many skits is because deep down a lot of these internet critics are aspiring filmmakers. They're working in a medium with no hard and fast rules so a lot of them take the space to experiment a little. Ultimately, I have a hard time blaming them because I am an aspiring filmmaker myself. I could say that I'm above it, but I know in my heart that if I had an internet review show going, about 10-15 episodes in I'd probably be doing the exact same loving thing.

It also helps that RLM's skits tend to last 15-45 seconds, not be 5 minutes long with a bunch of dumb continuity between reviews. Case in point: When RLM was doing the Revenge of the Sith review, they realized the skit at the end was going to ruin it, so they just made a short film instead!
