So to what extent is this game free? As in, how far can I play without spending anything? Just the tutorial campaigns? I was interested in this game a while back but I didn't quite want to pay for digital booster packs.

The gold is going faster than I honestly expected. Since expansion dropped I've made 2k gold just playing a few 2v2 matches in ranked and like two 1v1 unranked matches. No single player included. I'm sure if I were aiming for something it would be excruciatingly slow but just lookin' at the number it just keeps ticking by.

Yeah, it seems that all it takes is 8-12 matches or so to get enough for a booster pack or some other item. While still not super-fast, it's not a terrible grind either. I do hope they make some more of the starter/common/example decks purchasable via gold soon, too - that'd provide a much nicer way into the game for newcomers. There's basic Protectorate and Wrath starter decks (and they aren't too bad, honestly) for super-cheap as gold items right now, so more should be coming, I hope. Oh yeah, levelling tokens are pretty cheap, too. Silvers (6 to max out a character) cost 45 gold each, so for 270g you can just skip a champion straight to top level. The F2P stuff in general has been a really good move for the game. There's now direct rewards for long-term play, and it's less expensive/more accessible overall. All right, I decided to not be cheap and give these guys . If I buy the starter pack for a faction, that should give me access to all of those runes and allow me to actually edit a deck, correct? With $10, is there a better way to go about starting to build a deck? I was just thinking of buying the starter pack and commons for Shattered Peaks and then I'd have some money left over for something else maybe.

Some starter packs are better deck cores than others. I am NOT impressed with the FW one (though there are some decent ones), but a lot of ST starter runes are still mainstays of my pseudo-competitive deck, for instance. Still and all, a starter deck, some goonerosity, and some gold grinding will get you pretty well started.

Famicom Bunko posted:All right, I decided to not be cheap and give these guys I'd advise figuring out what kinda bg you want to make and the getting on guild chat and asking goons what the best way to spend the $10 is. Like Greyjoy said, some starter decks are better than others, so the best way to spend that 10 bux may depend on what you want to do. And not too many noobs have been asking about runes so seriously, get on guild chat and just tell you what you need. We can almost certainly provide you with every common and uncommon card you need, and maybe some rares.

Oh Banshee, you still the best~ I think I might come back to this game, since I still have all my UD cards like double rets, sheouls, grimlics. Would I be perfectly fine coming back with some my classic decks (probably just run demon since that deck is never too old with DEPs etc) and using that to make the coins to buy the new stuff? Also I take it that everyone has had to re-level their champs from scratch with the last patch/changes?

Although the battlefield graphics and UI could use an update, this game is pretty drat good. Hopefully more goons that like TCGs or turn-based strategy games will play it. To the knowledgeable among you: For the new players like myself that want to play competitively but don't want to spend a ton of money or time trading, do you think it would be helpful to post some "value" BG lists in the OP for different factions / themes? For example, several BG lists that kick rear end and can be built for under 20 bucks? Last night, I put together a Stitch BG and lost horribly with it 1v1. This was due to a combination of factors, one being that it was my first time playing other people. It seems that Stitch are tough to play correctly -- not a very good choice for beginners like myself. Any advise for Stitch players? Based on how my 1v1 games played out, it seems that Stitch are probably a better 2v2 theme, especially with runes like Stitched Librarian. Any players here with Stitch decks that want to team up sometime? I'm available for play during PST prime-time on weekdays. 2v2 seems like a lot of fun. We can also talk about building Stitch decks that work together. One last thing -- does anyone have a Moragen the Lost for sale?

One of the easiest value BGs to put together is voil from SP, and it does pretty well for itself. Mine personally is as follows, Bingo changes his stuff around a little but its largely the same: Champs 1x Crowned Sauropod (C) 1x Lance Admiral Sceian (Exo, in gold store) 1x Voil Courier (Legendary, in gold store, not all that needed) 2x Voil Imperialists (C) 2x Voil Queens (Rare, in gold store) 2x Voil Screecher (C) 2x Voil Sky Captains (C) 2x Voil Sorcerer (Rare) 2x Voil Stormflyer (Rare) 1x Windstriker (UC) Spells 2x Avalanche (C) 2x Lightning Storm (UC) 1x Vertical Push (UC) 1x Zealotry (C) Relics 1x Cleansing Emerald (C) 2x Echo Chamber (C) 1x Tribal Post (Legendary, in gold store) 1x Voil King's Crypt (UC) Equips 1x Diamond Mace (UC) 1x Earth Shakers Bracelet (Rare) 1x Vicious Harpoon (Rare) While it does have a few rares, the only ones that really matter are Sorcerers and Queens. I've been considering dropping my Stormflyers for either Lancers (UC) or even stuff like a Transport (UC), second Windstriker, or Bomber (C). Unfortunately the playstyle isn't terribly exciting. Basically you park Imperialist out on the field for Boost: Voil 3 and then try to get a bunch of bats down to go hit things and make the Sorcerers/Queens even stronger with Surge: Voil. seabas posted:2v2 seems like a lot of fun. We can also talk about building Stitch decks that work together. 2v2 is a lot a fun, but its really hectic compared to 1v1. You get 15 more seconds to coordinate everything with your partner as you make simultaneous turns. Double-stitched is also a bit limited by the fact that you can only play full faction in 2v2, no splits allowed. Blackmage Yapo fucked around with this message at Feb 21, 2011 around 01:46 |

I was gonna post a Clops bg but then I realized that Chiefs have appreciated in value a fair bit so I don't know if you can really call that a cheap bg. Can't be bought at the gold store unfortunately. You can make a FW bg for hella cheap now right? Someone post a cheap FW bg. It seems that Stitch are tough to play correctly -- not a very good choice for beginners like myself. Any advise for Stitch players? I come at playing Stitched from the FW side so my advice will be mostly geared towards FW, since I don't have many UD runes. The main thing, really, is that stitched are all expendable. If one dies, make another one. Ideally you don't want a lot of expensive things, nora-wise, in your deck. Here is what I have been running: Champs (14): Death Harvester Matriarch Sarinda 2x Stitched Concealer 2x Stitched Librarian Stitched First 2x Stitched Seamstress 2x Stitched Warlock 2x Stitchlings Spells (5): Decay Disintegrate Fading Recollection 2x Stitched Possession Relics(5): Defiling Spinel Elsarin Vex Scouring Jasper Tome of Hate Unholy Tomb Equips (6): Bracelet of Mirrors Soul Reaver Tempest Crown Cloak of Long Knives Reaper's Blade Stitched Hex Doll So, it's kind of an equip heavy deck I'm doing right now, I'm trying out all the new stuff to see if I like it. Sarinda + bracelet of mirrors is ridiculous. I have two basic objectives with this bg: 1) I can go destroy peoples' lives with concealers. They are absolute beasts early on. Build with shadow shift and conceal. You can easily recycle all your runes this way so if you use a key rune and need it back you can maybe conceal it! But you basically have 30dmg right out of the gate. That's enough to keep people at bay, or to go snipe their shrine. With cloak of long knives, there is basically nothing you can't one-shot. 2) Hella Sarinda. With bracelet of mirrors, you get two charges every spell cast AND deflect. With a seamstress or warlock out, you can add a charge every turn also. It's easy to be getting 3-5 charges / turn with Sarinda, which translates into 15-25 unpreventable damage a turn. The bg isn't that expensive, the only exos are a First (which I only run one of because I only have one), Matriarch Sarinda, and the relic bros UT and ToH, which are cheap now because of the gold stuff. Anyways, if you have questions you can ask me in game. I'm Zoopador.

Kylo mentioned a lot of the good UD stuff. Other strong contenders (omitting exos/higher) are: Champs: Demonbarb Spider, Deep Leviathan, Bok Warden, Bok Mistress, Bok Enforcer, Nefari Griefsinger, Nefari Fireslinger (kind of borderline, but I like them). Spells: Fading Recollection, Summon Trap Spider, Demolish (situational, but handy), Acrid Smoke (also situational). Relics: Mark of Sheoul, Griefbearer's Fountain, Fire Ruby.

Unfortunately they are letting their database go to the birds and it doesn't have the past two expansions in it but another good resource is http://www.poxportal.com. I assume it's mentioned it in the OP but basically poxportal is a big trader where you can swap runes, and they also have a database of every rune in the game. You can select rune database -> champs and then search by abilities, for example, to see what an ability does and what champs it's on. You can also check their price list (link at top) to get an idea of what different runes are worth. There are vast, vast differences in the worth of exos and rares especially.

Incidentally Maljaran Frontier boxes are $15 today, half off. This expansion doesn't have quite as much value as newer ones and it has some loser exotic spells in it but it might be a good investment for a noob that wants a cheap way to get some tradeable rares and a decent rune base. edit - art reminded me that it has ambassadors in it, which are poo poo awesome runes and really valuable too. Shaman are 2x auto-include since they can deconstruct enemies/reconstruct Dreameaters (which are awesome), and Stitchlings aren't really useful for much beyond being cheap remains and food for Sarinda. Doom sounds powerful, but really isn't that great in practice - I'd recommend taking Obelus instead. Taking 2x Fading Recollection is overkill - it's a great spell, but you'll want to use it sparingly since the nora cost is so high. I'd go with a second Mobilization instead. Ark of the Elsari is also pretty mediocre. I'd recommend replacing it with another spell since your battle group is already pretty relic heavy - Essence Drain or Retribution would be good choices.
