We'll start with the samsung galaxy tab because samsung is the worst of all the linux phone vendors in many ways and most of all in their hilarious lies. To begin with Samsung won't say how many Galaxy Tabs have actually been sold. However, they do keep repeating that over 2 million samsung galaxy tabs "shipped." Amazing! Those sales are incredible! Samsung has a real winner here... However of course it then comes out in the wall street journal that quote:But during the company’s quarterly earnings call on Friday, a Samsung executive revealed those figures don’t represent actual sales to consumers. Instead, they are the number of Galaxy Tab devices that Samsung has shipped to wireless companies and retailers around the world since product’s formal introduction in late September. whoooops corean supremacy denied, turns out reporting numbers of units shipped to channel is just a hilarious lie except an admission like this cannot stand, samsung represents the pride of a nation, so she delivers a correction to the wall street journal quote:Corrections & Amplifications so it now read quote:Pressed by an analyst at an investment bank, the Samsung executive, Lee Young-hee, acknowledged that sales to consumers were “quite smooth,” though she didn’t give a specific number. hmmmmm. In any case, let's move onto the returns. They're quite high. ITG, a research firm that polls retail sites, reports them as upwards of 16%. That's one in six samsung galaxy tabs returned. Samsung wouldn't stand for this either. They returned with a proud statement that returns are around a more acceptable 2%, not that shocking 1/6 number. Of course, as has been pointed out they are probably just reporting the returns against their hilariously inflated "shipped to channel" 2 million+ units number. So if you combine that 2% with the 16%.... quote:What if Samsung's number is based on their distribution shipments of "2 million" units and the report numbers are based on actual sales (what stores would report). Let's assume the "under 2%" is 1.8% to give them some wiggle room. Only 225-250K sold to customers. Now that's sort of a sad revelation for samsung and her proud fatherland, but there's a little wrinkle in these numbers. Around 36,000 have been returned, let's ballpark this and say they sold 236,000, which means consumers only kept 200,000, the rest are back on the shelf (some of which are stuffed back in the box, missing the power adapter, basically a radio shack special). That 200,000 number is interesting because it's 10% of their hyped 2,000,000. This means 90% of all Samsung Galaxy Tabs are still sitting on the shelf, unsold, because they are terrible and nobody except fishmech wants one.

Next we'll do the dell streak 7 I'll just link to the engadget review because not much more needs to be said Cheap Screen: quote:the Streak's 800 x 480 panel just looks cheap, and the experience is definitely felt when browsing, reading, looking at photos, or watching a high-definition clip. (old) Phone OS without rewrites for tablet usage: quote:Dell's gone ahead and released the Streak 7 with Android 2.2. We're well aware that there are no Honeycomb tablets shipping yet, but there's something about the Streak that just feels rushed to market, and that experience is even more pronounced when you realize Dell didn't do anything on top of the OS to make it more tablet friendly. quote:On the topic of that mail app, it nor any of the other native apps, like the calendar or messaging, have been revamped to take advantage of the extra screen real estate. This tablet has a dual core Tegra. It's almost overpowered for what it does right now, yet... quote:Flash performance was pretty decent -- we were able to get some of the New York Times' Flash videos playing within a few seconds of loading the site. "pretty decent" flash performance, because "some" of the videos would play within a few seconds. Not instantly, and only some. Flash is a joke. But wait, there's more! quote:Similarly, on our battery rundown test, which loops the same standard definition video with brightness set at 65 percent and WiFi on, the 2780mAh battery only lasted three hours and 26 minutes Three hour battery life with reduced brightness. Battery Life Dell Streak 7 3:26 Archos 70 6:00 Archos 101 7:20 Samsung Galaxy Tab 6:09 Apple iPad 9:33 quote:Ironically, despite the Dell Streak 7's improved specs, it finds itself in no better place than the original Streak: it runs the same software, and while it has a larger screen, the resolution doesn't make it anymore useful. And hey, it can't even make phone calls! Yes, sadly, at the close of yet another Dell tablet review, we're left wishing the company put a little more love into what could have been a pretty great product. We're actually not even sure why the guys in Austin decided to bring the Streak 7 to market in its current form. There's no doubt that at $199.99 on contract / $450 off contract the tablet is one of the more decently priced Android slates out there, and its HSPA+ speeds make it incredibly fast, but when you combine its low-resolution screen, poor battery life, and soon-to-be outdated OS, we simply can't recommend it quote:(Keep in mind, we're not positive that the Tab will be upgradable to Honeycomb, so you're taking a risk there). That's right you dumb motherfuckers this abortion of a tablet/phone/hybrid costs only $50 less than an iPad. Why would you buy this, ever?

Don Lapre posted:$180 less than ipad+3g. No, look at the base pricing here. We're not going to do a dumb checkbox feature comparison, the iPad has a bigger screen, better battery life, etc. Just say, if you had $500, which would you buy, dinner at Ruby Tuesday's and a Dell Streak 7, or an iPad?

"Xoom" are you kidding me? hah, I knew it, Xoom literally was a dumb internet startup Xoom Web Hosting quote:Prior to its current incarnation as a money transfer company, Xoom was founded by Chris Kitze in September 1996 as a download website offering free clipart and a productivity suite including a word-processing application, centering around a word processor based on Wordstar. In March 1997, Xoom became a web hosting (offering 100MB) and an e-mail hosting website. The company acquired several small service providers in 1997 and 1998, including Paralogic, creator of ParaChat which was the largest chat network on the web at the time, and PageCount, a page counter service. The main revenue sources for the company were direct marketing via email to members and banner advertising.

the question is, why would you want an android device that isn't a phone? you also have to pay like 30-60$ a month for the 3g network coverage and noone is stupid enough to sign a 2-year contract for that since there is no necessity use. i think the ipad is worthless too, but at least they don't try to make you sign a contract for 3g.
