WOAH! So you can buy OBD II to usb adapter, the only thing left to do is write a driver, so it's effectively universal across all cars. Boom, instant replacement for the scan tool. Why not an iPad? ah gently caress already been built. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnPx4opR7o4 There's probably people who saw that blood glucose meter demo at that apple keynote and thought of this immediately. That's an awesome niche product that doesn't have to compete with the fart apps on the App Store. Flash my ECU with my iPod Touch

Seriously I got the sudden urge to go out, get an ipad and mac mini and build this thing ... but a quick search says it's already been built USB -> ODB II has to be a more or less stock part. Seriously, what's the competition on the PC? Some crummy graphing components you could buy from Telerik or Janus? http://www.obdcom.com/ VAG-COM is definitely in arm and leg territory http://www.ross-tech.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=VAGCOM http://www.ross-tech.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=VPHBC&Category_Code=VAGCOM maybe there's space for making such a product more user friendly? more useful as a ghetto gauge cluster replacement? I mean, $700 for ipad + this thing or god knows how much for a gauge cluster and disassembling your dash, etc.
